I'm shocked to not see a new thread here beyond the "Latest pic" post over on the DVC Mouscellaneous Board- but I'm ready to start buying my points there and planning a trip to Hawaii in early 2012 if it truly opens its first phase in Fall 2011! Anyone heard rumors of when they may open sales?

Did you all receive the DVC News today with the artist renderings and new website?

I want to go to there....! Think they'll have Tonga Toast??

When we first bought DVC, we hoped that there would someday be a DVC/Hawaii, but now that there is, I doubt we will buy there. First of all, our LEAST favorite island is Oahu. Beyond that, DVC points and maintenance are more expensive than doing an exchange to Hawaii, and since we aren't likely to travel there every year or even more than every 5th year, owning doesn't make sense to us. We have had 4 extended Hawaii trips...usually about 5-10 years apart. I HATE the long flight and the time change, and I wouldn't ever consider a Hawaii trip of less than 3 weeks. Given that, I'm not likely to buy enough points to get me there for the length of time I want.

I will likely just hope to trade into Aulani for a couple of days at the end of any Hawaii trip we take in the future. That's how we mostly use Oahu anyway....as a stopping off spot to ease back into the busier mainland life. We much prefer either Kauai or Hawaii first with Maui being close behind. Our favorite trip we did all 3...a week on each with a couple of days on Oahu at the end.

Now, if they had built on Maui, Kauai, or Hawaii....yes, I'd likely be considering it by going in with some friends of ours. There are plenty of less expensive timeshares to be had over there though for far less than I imagine DVC is going to be.

I like the new site, found it a little odd that the home page didn't load anything for me visually (did anyone see anything other than a load counter?)

Some comments:

The video left a lot to be desired. Don't bother.

The drawings of the lobby reminds me of Kidani. Small, personal. I think it'll be too small for the resort. Looks like they would like to have a waterfall on the side of the lobby. That would be nice and tie it into the Poly's lobby a little.

The Studios seem to have almost the same layout as the studios at Kidani. A large bathroom area with the commode separated off by a door. Good call on their part. Not so sure what I make of the other rooms yet.

Finally and not so important: The cartoon image of the "monkey races" in the kids water play area is hysterical. :rotfl: I wonder if that will become reality. I don't know of any monkeys native to HI, so the theme seems a little out of place.

It's fun to see progress! Thanks for posting this Spokavegas. I would have missed it otherwise.

I just looked at the pics and it made me super excited to go there. I would like to book a 2012 or 2013 trip there. I think that is a gorgeous piece of property!

It says they are planning 2 bedrooms..does that mean only 2 bedrooms or will they be able to also do 1 bed and studios?

I have read a few times that there were DVC properties that never came to fruition...will Aulani definetely be a DVC resort since it has been named and given a website?? Or is it still possible for Dvc to back out? Since the resort is opening in 2011 when do we assume the point charts will be available???

A million and one questions I know...TIA

I love this spot. I own at the Marriott Beach Club on lagoon three and it is pure heaven. People who don't like Oahu might change their mind once they visit Ko'Olina. It is one of my favorite spots in the world, and I have been to Maui, Hawaii and Kauai many times, and used to live on Oahu. All the islands are great in my opinion, and I really love the exclusiveness of Ko'Olina. I can't wait to see what Disney has done.

(And no, there are no monkeys on Hawaii...yet.)
