Which room would you guys choose and why what actually is the difference?

Thanks as always I can NOT believe I'm going to Aulani

The main difference will be that the studio has a kitchenette and typically has one bed (queen or king...I forget) and a sofa sleeper. The hotel room may have two beds, but when we did a DVC hotel room, it had one bed and a sofa sleeper. It was also HA, which we did not request, but did not matter to us.
Have fun!

At Aulani, there are only 8 Hotel Rooms that are part of DVC and they will all have a "Standard" View. Those DVC Hotel Rooms are approx. 26 sq feet larger than the Studios (382 vs. 356). The Hotel Rooms were added to the timeshare to replace a Grand Villa that was removed and converted into hotel amenity space.

Erionm is correct and for that reason you likely want to be prepared to be booking a studio if no hotel rooms are available. I've stayed in a 1 bdrm two trips to Aulani and a studio once for a very short stay. They are all awesome. I love having the kitchen or kitchenette myself. Aulani is wonderful, glad you get to go! Happy planning!

If you are intending to reserve Aulani when the 7 month reservation window opens, hotel rooms and standard view studios are usually gone throughout the year before 7 months out.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but a while ago when I was considering the hotel room, I believe I read that all of the hotel rooms face or are very close to the parking garage, so the chance of a somewhat decent view wasn't possible.

As I noted in an earlier post, the DVC Hotel Rooms all have a Standard View (parking lot or garage).

I saw your post but you didn't define standard view so I thought it was worth mentioning that these rooms in particular are adjacent to the parking garage which is the whole view. To me, that is worse than a lot of standard views in WDW, where it could mean you are face the parking lot beyond some grass or a courtyard. In these rooms, there's nothing you could request to move away from the parking garage from what I understand.

The dvc hotel room does not have a microwave. It has a mini fridge. We stayed in one last May and had a view of the garage. And two beds.

Even though the hotel room standard view was over the parking garage, there was plenty of beautiful foliage and island views that made the view quite pleasant IMO. Besides...we were hardly in the room.
