Aulani - here now - post your questions

Oh boy, do I agree with you on that one! On top of it all, I got a whopping female infection from that hot tub that my doctor told me comes from diaper age children being in the hot tub. Such a beautiful infinity edge hot tub with a magnificent view, but not at all enjoyable when you have to share it with playing children. I will NEVER go in another Disney hot tub after that experience. There needs to be at least ONE that is adults only.

OMG!!! I don't understand that. I have three kids. I am perfectly fine with adults only sections. There really do need to be some boundaries. If Disney doesn't respond with more rules(or enforcing rules), they will eventually alienate those without kids. That would be a mistake, IMHO.

I feel similarly with the dress codes at the nicer restaurants at Disney. They have a dress code that they don't bother to enforce. You dress appropriately to have a nice dinner only to sit next to someone in jeans and a tank top :confused3

Thank you for being willing to answer questions. Can you tell me if there is a height or age requirement for the waterslides and the lazy river? DGD will be 3 1/2 yrs. when we travel. Can someone go down the slides with her?

They have adult only areas on the cruise ships. It should be similar at resorts like Aulani. As someone without kids, I know there will be plenty at all things Disney. But children should not be in hot tubs anyways.

Are there any new Adult Only Areas?... either an Adult Only Pool or special section for the loungers? We really enjoyed our stay at Aulani last February, but felt overwhelmed by children everywhere... especially unsupervised children in the hot tubs.

We've been to the spa, and know about using that on the day of your signature treatment, but that isn't something we can do every day. We're hoping for some specific "Adult Only" areas with the renovations/construction. If Disney can figure out how to do it on the cruise ship, we're hoping they can figure out how to do it at Aulani!

Here's what the Aulani website says about the slides:

WATERSLIDES
In Waikolohe Valley, 2 unique waterslides offer thrills galore:

Volcanic Vertical: An enclosed, extreme body slide that plunges you into Waikolohe Pool

Tubestone Curl: An open-air twisting and turning tube adventure with single and double tubes that eventually launches you into Waikolohe Stream

I did not see any children as young as your DGD on the slides. On the lazy river parents often would either share a tube with a little one or swim (walk) and push the little one's tube. They were so light that they'd easily get stuck to the side without someone to guide them. Keep in mind that the water is 3' to 4' so not that many little ones did the lazy river. I did see a little become terrified on the lazy river because some teens splashed water on her accidentally. Sometimes the teens got a little rambunctious chasing each other through the lazy river.

More little ones spent day after day at the Menehue Bridge playing on those slides. http://resorts.disney.go.com/aulani...-amenities/pools-beach/pools/menehune-bridge/ I don't remember any adults taking a little one down those slides but I did see older children take them up. But only one child could come down at at a time.

Thank you for your quick response. I was pretty sure she would not be allowed on the slides. We will probably use the lazy river during what I hope will be some lesser used times.

The childrens play area has a max height of 48" and I believe the slide has a min height of 40". Most parents with young ones went with a double tube and the child sat on the legs of the parents on the way down. There's two slides, one for with tubes and one without. Its a very moderate slide.

I haven't found any adult areas outside of the spa.

In response to the questions about ''adult only'' sections of the pool, currently Aulani does not have anything specifically for kids. I personally agree children should NOT be in the hot tubs, but it is a rule that is hardly enforced.

The new area that is opening up next month is going to feature the Wailana quiet pool, which before was simply a quiet pool and now is being turned into an adult-only pool. From what I heard. As for adult only hot tubs, I can only hope so. I think it would be so nice to have a kid-free zone for those who just want to relax!

Can you purchase Aulani exclusive items by calling a customer service number & having them shipped? TIA!

Do one bedrooms have a dining size table? And, only 1 bath or 1.5?

Has anyone found good sushi and/or other dinners to go nearby aulani.

Or, a local type sushi place right nearby to eat in.

Thank you!

Hi folks,

Just a quick update. We checked out of Aulani and are now on the NCL cruise around the islands. As Internet access on the ship is very expensive and we really only get only when we go ashore (and we are busy seeing the sights when we are ashore( expect less frequent updates. I promise I will answer all the questioned when we get back to Aulani on Saturday and Internet access is once again free.

Thanks to all those who are chipping in to help answer some of the questions here! That's the dis spirit!

1 bath, Dining table seats 8. Kapolei has a few sushi places. Went to the Converyor belt one, Kazoku Sushi for there lemon drop roll. There is one across the street but prices higher.

Obviously the food issue is a matter of personal taste. DW and I were verry happy with our meal at Ama Ama. We thought the food was very good and, although expensive, the food and the view combined made the value fair in our opinion.

We did eat at Monkeypod last night and enjoyed that as well. Half the price of Ama Ama and the food was good as well. The atmosphere at happy hour was fun and laid back. The musician playing was a nice touch and our server was excellent. She took a couple minutes to hang and chat with us and helped us with some of our Hawaiian for later in the trip.

We leave Aulani this morning for a week on the NCL cruise. We will be back in a week and will start back up here. NCL charges for WiFI and I will nto pay it. Sorry.

Maybe we will catch up with you when we check in on Saturday as well!

By the time you read this, hope you had a great cruise!

The one bedroom unit we stayed in (ocean view) had one full bath, it was split into the two rooms. The bath room near the bedroom had the full tub (jetted?) and sink and closet. The other bath room, also accessible from the kitchen/front door, had the big shower, toilet, and another sink. Lots of room in those two bath rooms!

The dining table was large, and had the typical bench seating. But there were a couple of pull up ottomans/seats or chairs that you could bring to the table.

This is such a good thread. Thank you to all with experience. I have a few questions too as we will be going to Aulani in March 2014.

1. Is the Target a Super Target? I know we're in Hawaii but two or three nights of our 12 we would like to beach it and eat in. Can I get supplies to grill (chicken or Hamb) and lunch supplies for picnics?

2. We were thinking of the following restaurants any thoughts?
AMU AMU
Paradise cove
Roy's
PCC luau
Monkey Pod
Germains Luau
Naupaka Terrace (JW Marriot)

3. Can you book the Fire school surf lessons at Aulani or should you book those before you leave home?

4. Are any of the dinner/sunset cruises worth it?

5. We plan to go to Pearl Harbor (early Morning), Dole Plantation, North Shore, and PCC. Not really hikers- what other sites do you recommend?

6. Is one beach better than another at the North Shore?

I know these are a lot of questions but there really isn't another area to ask them. TIA

1.) YES there is a Super Target at the exit prior to Ko'Olina. Easy to get to. There are a couple of restaurants in the area too. Also a CostCo at this ext. You can get everything you need and more.

2. AMU AMU: YES, we thought the food was very good and at here a couple of times. View & Service are outstanding

Roys at the Golf Club. YES, we like this place and you have to try their signature "Pineapple Infused Martini". Fantastic. HOWEVER --- USE CASH AT THIS LOCATION BECAUSE THEY STOLE OUR CREDIT CARD NUMBERS TWICE!!!! I'm not kidding!

Monkey Pod - yes. Close & Convenient. Great Happy Hour. Great Food

Don't know about the others.

So 2 bathrooms?
