My husband and I are trying to decide on a trip for our 20 year anniversary for January of 2018. I would love to try out Aulani, and using points for a DVC room is tempting to save money. How is Aulani for adults not bringing kids? Are there enough adults only areas to get away from the little angels? We would be leaving our 4 kids at home with grandma so we likely would only go for 5 nights and are coming from Chicago. I know ideally, a trip that far isn't worth it considering the travel time. The other option would be to rent our DVC points and go somewhere closer and less of a kid resort. We went to Kauai for our honeymoon and loved it so it would be nice to go back to HI. If we don't go without the kids we may take the whole family the year after.
Thanks

the adults-only pool was nice and quiet, yes, but it was also far away from the beach, so you wouldn't be able to get much of an ocean view there. it was also relatively small compared to the rest of the resort. there is a adults-only hot tub that does allow for an ocean view, but it's quite small, and you wouldn't want to hang out there all day.

we brought our kids there for five nights, but if it was just the two of us we probably wouldn't stay all five nights at aulani, particularly because the adults-only area is not that big. everything closes down at 8 or earlier, unless you head off-resort, but that defeats the purpose of staying there...

you're using DVC points though so perhaps it won't be as big of a deal. if you were paying then i would definitely recommend going elsewhere.

The Ko Olina area has many condos available on VRBO... if you don't end up staying at Aulani, you can always visit there for dinners and enjoy the lagoon. All beaches in Hawaii are open to the public. My Husband and I are about to spend 3 nights of our 30th wedding anniversary trip at Aulani after 5 nights on Kauai. We stayed next door at the Ko Olina Beach Villas 3 years ago.... gorgeous and spacious!

Another thing I've read about Aulani is that night time activities for adults are few and far between. Not much at the resort or in the immediate vicinity, at least not without driving somewhere. That being said, we're spending 6 nights there on our honeymoon in September. Knowing this, we've planned our days accordingly so that the lack of evening entertainment won't be a concern.

Five of us (all Adults, some "older" adults) just returned from 12 nights at Aulani. This was our third visit and we definitely think this is a resort that adults can enjoy. The adult pool is nice and quiet but not so far removed that you can't easily get a beverage or food from one of the circulating servers. Its also a pretty short walk (50-100 yards?) down to the beach if that's what you are after.

I've been with just my wife (several times). My wife and my mom. My wife, both our moms, two adult daughters and their boyfriends.

Always had a blast.

Norhing better than floating down the lazy river then getting out and enjoying a Mai tai. And repeating over and over.

My mom and I went to Aulani for my medical school graduation last year, and we loved every minute! We spent some time in the adult only areas but mostly found that even the areas where kids were allowed weren't overwhelming with kids. I don't particularly like kids, and I wasn't annoyed by them. We really enjoyed the lazy river and the water slides too. The food onsite was fantastic, and there was a nice area with some restaurants within walking distance. We also explored other parts of the island on several days then just relaxed in the adults only hot tub on those evenings.
