Aulani discounts

Hi--we are considering booking a short stay at Aulani in early March 2015. I was looking at rates for March 2014 to get an idea, and the surprising thing is that it's cheaper to book a 1-bedroom through Disney than by renting DVC points. It's cheaper by more than $100/night. It looks like it's because Aulani has a special going on for that time frame, 4 nights for the price of 3. I assumed we would book a room by renting DVC points, but now I'm wondering if we should try to book through Disney instead and take a chance that a discount will come out at the same time next year.

Anyway...just wondered if anyone has any insight on discounts at Aulani...how far in advance they come out, different types, etc.

Thanks!

In the summer of 2013 I booked Aulani with a AAA discount for March 2014. Which was still expensive but a price I could live with. We have a one bedroom. I chose to book directly with Disney and not rent points, because I wanted to be able to cancel almost last minute (my DM had a really rough year healthwise, but is doing better now-fingers crossed) Then in Oct. I think the promo came out with the buy 3 nights get one free and also get two breakfasts free. So, I had a wonderful CM and she made 2 ressies so I could get 2 nights free. I was very happy with my discounts. If you have the cash for a ressie to sit on it's not a bad idea so you have that room when a discount comes out. HTH:)

Thanks for the info! I forgot about AAA, we are members. I will probably do what you did, and hope for the larger discount later. :)
