Hi, I searched the Dining thread but did not find anything on this. Any opinions of the Aulani Character Breakfast? I read a few reviews on TripAdvisor-type sites, and on a site called Moms in HI, but I'm wondering about DISer opinions:thumbsup2

Thanks in advance,

Because the Restaurant boards don't get a lot of traffic about anything outside of Walt Disney World, moving to the DVC board.

We did it during our stay at Aulani. The character interaction was great! The kids had a great time marching around the restaurant and meeting Mickey (greeting and photo op at the entrance), Minnie, and Goofy. And Auntie did a great job entertaining and doing the parades around the restaurant. Food was ok - nothing special - though they did have the mini Mickey waffles for the kids. Service was fantastic - our server even gave us take out cups of juice to go (how many times do you get offered to-go food from a buffet??) and it was even pineapple-orange juice, lol. Worth going at least once - easy way to get to see some of the main characters.

Here are our pics:

Not a fan of the character breakfast... The character interaction is pretty sucky! You take a pic with Mickey on the way in (which you can buy for a ridiculous amount of money). Inside, Goofy and Minnie are wandering around from table to table. But that's it, unless you count "Aunty" who annoyingly walks around "singing" cheesy tunes while playing the ukulele and trying to get the kids to parade around with her. The food is "fine". The best part is the kiddie height pancake and waffle bar. My kids got a kick out of that. I know it's not a theme park, but 3 characters hardly makes a character meal. :rolleyes1

For those who have been to a character breakfast it is similar with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy walking around. You post initially with Mickey. With us, the resort wasn't too full so we had planty of time with each character as they came around and I think they hit are table 3 times each, varying what they did-funny! Because this resort is much more about Hawaii culture and not so much Disney there is also Aunty singing Hawaiin songs and getting the kids up to play with instruments and march aroung inside and out.

The typical american breakfast items were fine. I really liked the portuguese sausage. There was a carving station too. I was looking forward to the dim sum which disappointed. They have a selection of juices including guava (yumm). They served smoked salmon which was really good.

It is expensive but if you want a Disney fix there, this is the thing to do.

???
The Cape May Buffet character breakfast at WDW only has three characters and I have never heard anyone say it wasn't a character meal? Other WDW character breakfasts only have 4 characters (ie. 'Ohana) and I hardly find the addition of one character makes or breaks the experience?

I haven't eaten at the Aulani character breakfast yet, but when we do I am hoping it will just add to the Disney experience in Hawaii - which will obviously be different from the Disney experience in WDW.
