Okay am i 100000% crazy for booking a trip the 25th-30of August? We are from Michigan and not really a fan of the heat, but our oldest is starting High School and We cant take her our of school and I work for a airline so I cant take time off around the holidays. Are we total nuts and are we going to hate this trip? We norm go in the fall but went once in September and it was HOT. Please tell me we can do this with breaks and lots and lots of water???

That's a really good week as far as crowds go, usually.

But yes, hotter than anything else I've ever experienced (I live in Syracuse, NY).

Imagine the hottest day you've ever experienced. It's hotter. :rotfl:
Don't worry. You can do it!

well we are shopping for portable fans, really good water bottles, and the towels that keep you cool. We want to go so bad but cant take Josie out of High School right when she starts. No turning back now, I got five tickets from Detroit to Orlando with bag fees both ways for 700 bucks.

We're from western New York, and the week before Labor Day was our preferred vacation time at Disney while our kids were in school. Yes, it's hot (lows around 72, highs around 93, late afternoon thunderstorm most days), but it's doable, crowds are beginning to tail off a little, and there are often room discounts or free dining. We'd do both water parks (go to a theme park in the morning, arrive at water park around 2-3pm and stay until closing; if there's a rainstorm, hang out in a shop or restaurant eating area and wait while 3/4 of the guests leave) or take an afternoon pool break at our hotel. If you have a 'fridge with freezer in your room, freeze some water bottles and you'll have cold water at least the first few hours.

We go every August, this year we will be there from the 2nd-12th. It will be hot but you can do it. We do RD take a break and do late nights. The daily rain tends to cool things off (at least a little).

We are August veterans as well, but we tend to go a week or so earlier than what you have planned. Crowd levels should be going down, as the southern schools are back in session by then. Weekends will still be crazy though.

The heat is tough, but make sure you save shows and major indoor attractions for after 11 AM and youshould have plenty of cool, indoor breaks. WDW does a pretty good job keeping the AC going in the summer.

Plan to either do laundry halfway through the trip or bring two outfits per day. We tend to change our clothes during our mid afternoon break back at the room. It feels good to get out of the sweaty clothes :) Sometimes we take a morning and afternoon shower, or a morning and evening one.

Sweating can lead to blisters, be prepared.

We have been at that time, we are from Seattle, and we didn't completely melt! So, I think you can handle it! :)

We went in August this past year. You can have a good time. Rides were easy to get on going standby leaving your fp choices for the absolute musts. Good planning can move you in and out of the air conditioning so you don't notice the heat as much. The spurtatic rain was annoying but again planning can help. If it did rain it was late afternoon by then we got all our fp rides in. Funny story about the rain...my daughter for two years of planning our trip was adamant about not going on its a small world but conceded only because it was only indoor ride we didn't do and we were killing time waiting for our dinner reservations.

We stayed eight days so we were able to pace ourselves. That is key for anytime at Disney but in the heat of the summer most especially.

Strategizing water rides like splash mountain and Kali Rapids for early afternoon also a good idea for cooling off- although my daughter was a little irked at my wife and I for convincing her going on splash mountain would get her wet on a hot day but it ended up she was the only one who stayed DRY after the splashdown

Don't forget the free ice water at the quick service locations... What a life saver!

Also my daughter carried an umbrella which we bought to escape a shower but during the sunshine it also was great portable shade...made a great accessory to go with the fan mister

We made the most of things considering we too were kind of boxed in as far as when we could go. Sometimes it's all in the attitude.

You'll be fine! We've done that last week of August, and yes, it's hot, but it's still DISNEY!! I actually like that week better than earlier times we've tried in the summer.
Keep hydrated, visit the splash pads when needed, and consider getting some moisture wicking clothes. Last summer those were my new favorite thing. :D
The kids really loved the little misting fans I brought. They ran on AA batteries, and didn't hold a lot of water, but it was just enough to cool things down.

Also - bring at least 2 pairs of shoes for everyone - that way if you do get soaked in the summer showers, you have something dry for your feet.
You can do this!!

Thank you for all tips. Fans and towels are on the list, I have been shopping on Amazon for them.
I never thought about doing inside stuff in the hot afternoon sun. If we are staying at Port Orleans can we use the pools at different hotels? I was thinking we could leave mid day and hop on over to a resort and try out the pool.

Thank you so much for all the tips. We are going to have fun.

I'm British and pale as anything: I've never experienced heat like WDW in August, but I survived and we're going back this year! Make sure you have decent sunscreen, plenty of water and make use of the AC and the shade. Enjoy!

We usually go in August as well. yes, it is hot but the rain and the AC make it bearable. We usually do RD, break and back in the evenings. Our breaks are either napping in the AC or swimming followed by showers and fresh clothing. The last week of August is a great week with low crowds! We go the week before now because of school schedules but I'd switch to your week if I could. Just remember to drink a lot of water and rest, you will be fine.

No, pool hopping is not allowed, and most of the resort pools are gated and guarded.

Like you, I can't stand the heat and I have been to WDW in August. For me, it was tolerable since I was coming from Connecticut where it is also hot and humid at that time of year. We would go into our park of choice for opening, stay until 1:00 or so and then head back to the hotel and spend the afternoon at the pool. After a quick shower, we were ready to head back into the parks around 4:30 for dinner and whatever else we had planned.

It's really hot and there are crazy daily storms. That being said we go every year that week, so it must not be that bad lol. Get out early is the key! Have a really good touring plan that builds in AC breaks. The good part is the crowds aren't terrible so that helps.

We go in August because we don't want to take the kids out of school. Since we drive from Pennsylvania, we need to take a few extra days off. We went last August from the 21st to the 29th. It was hot. It rained. It was awesome. The only time the heat got to us was while waiting for the parade. That's when we go to attractions like the Country Bears, Carousel of Progress, Ellen's Energy Adventure, etc. The trip before (2013) we went the beginning of August and it was much more crowded.

Go for it!
