August weather-what to bring

About two weeks before your trip, start checking the local weather forecasts. ABC7 is one station to look at. And ask questions here, too, in case anything unusual is happening with the weather. For example, right now, we're pretty cold and unusually wet (at least, after so many drought years, any rain at all feels really odd...). Sounds like some posters here got caught off guard on their trips. Always ask here just before you finish packing to make sure there isn't something else you need to throw into that suitcase! I mean, seriously, when locals are wearing parkas and fishing waders to the parks -- you know something's up with the weather!

California weather can be weird, we have been down there in August with a heat wave in the hundred degree mark where you arenin shorts and tank top at midnight and on the 50th anniversary it was cloudy overcast and we had to be in jackets until about 2 in the afternoon then back in jackets around 4. You just never know down there.
