Hi guys!

I'm not a newbie to Disney but I have never gone in August. Only trips in April/May and one in early July. I was hoping to get some advice about going in August.

I have had multiple friends and several WDW guides say that you shouldn't go in August unless you absolutely have to, specifically referring to the heat, tour groups and high crowd levels. I would love some input from some fellow Disney crazy disboard members who have actually been there this time of the year. Is it a bad time to travel to WDW?

It will be the very last week in August- if this makes a difference.

Thanks in advance :thanks:

Uhm Yea this makes a huge difference...Last week that is.

Mostly by the middle of August the schools in the south are generally back in session.

It will be ridiculously hot, and thunderstorms happen on a daily basis... but it is highly manageable...
My suggestion is , get there early, do modst of what you want, then scoot back to the resort for some recoup/refreshing/ pool time or nap time, then head back around dinner time.

Oh, And the tour groups don't usually end up going around this time . I believe they're there in July mostly, amongst a few other times during the year.

Try and squeeze in a water park day or 2 , depending on how many days u go.

It's really hot. Really hot. But if you have gone in early July, it's not worse than that.

I have never seen a tour group that week and we have gone that week the last couple of year that week.

Definitely plan your must-dos in the morning and get out for rope drop! As the day goes on, it has a tendency to start going sideways between the heat, rain and lightning storms.

we have to go in August since I work in a school. We always go after the middle of August since schools in the South go back earlier than us in the Northeast. We have not had any problems with tour groups - they are usually there more in July. It will be hot but we just head to the parks early, go back to enjoy the pool and go back for dinner and the night. Just make sure to drink a lot and get a frogg togg to use in the parks to help keep you cooler

Ohhhh yes, they sure are there in July. After being there with all of those tour groups I said "never again".

The last week of August is a better week to travel when Labor Day comes early in the month of September. There will still be many schools around the country out the last week of August this year, for example. Same last year. The more schools still out on summer break, the higher the crowd levels.

But go and have a great time. Crowds will still be reasonable, and you know how to deal with the heat.

Great minds think alike :yay:

We have always gone at end of August, arriving around the 20th or so for 10 days. Great time to go as far as crowds go. Summer decor in full effect at start of our trips and Halloween decorations come out toward the end. Yes, it's hot, but we stay in the parks til after lunch, swim back at our resort, ride out the inevitable 30 minute 4:30 pm thunderstorm by cleaning up for dinner in our room, and then head out for dinner and a night in the park after the rain passes and it's 10 degrees cooler. I love going at that time of year.

We can only go in August due to work schedules. We have been there the last four years and I have no complaints about it. Just have to be smart. Like many PP's said, parks early in the morning, mid day break at hotel to swim/nap, dinner around the time thunderstorms typically happen, & back to parks at night. yes it's crowded but not unmanageable! We love it!

It is crowded and hot and rainy. I was surprised at the crowds last end of Aug, definitely not like Sept. Just be very careful in the heat, frogg toggs are great. Drink tons of water. We saw a couple of people pass out from the heat/dehydration. Also be prepared for thunderstorms. As long as you are prepared, you will be fine.

We had only been going in July and last year switched to August. The crowds were smaller, there were NO tour groups at all, and it was ridiculously hot but no worse than in July. Same with the rain. We will be going the last week of August as well. No tour groups and the southern states back in school does seem to help.

We have gone in August multiple times. Every time I am there I say never again, yet we re going again this August. The heat is what kills me, if you can find a way to manage the heat - your are fine. Crowds are okay. Never waited long for any rides.
We have always gotten to the parks early and then rested mid day and returned in the evening.
Have a fabulous trip!

First time August'ers here too..we've gone every year first week in May but switched it up this year as our budget wouldn't allow in May. Going 17th to 23rd week. Its the heat Im dreading too..

It's the heat that gets me too! I live in Northern Canada, so the heat is always a bit of a shock to the system ha ha.
