I have purchased maxi dresses for my August trip to disney. I will be riding rides and doing everything. Will my dresses get in the way on any rides? I hope this isn't a weird question. Should I avoid wearing a dress at any parks? I have also purchased dresses for my dd9 to wear.

I'm not sure what kind of dress that is - what kind of material is it?

When we go in August - we wear shorts (and NOT denim shorts - but light, sports material shorts) and light colored, light weight t-shirts (we don't do tanks - because we burn and less skin exposure the better). But I specifically buy either tru-dri material (like for sports) or those really cheap feeling t-shirts that seem like they'll come apart after 5 washings because they are so thin. And stay away from dark colors - white or mostly white is the way to go.

That said, my dd has worn dresses before and honestly with that 'breeze' that she gets from top to bottom I think it's been a bit cooler for her. But it was cotton only and light and very, very comfortable - and it was a spaghetti strap dress that time (lots of sunscreen, but worked out ok).

Sorry - can't help you about the rides - I would say it would depend on the length whether or not it would get in the way at all. But there are a lot of people of different cultures who wear skirts only - so I'm sure that many people have done it without too much of an issue.

I'm going in September, and I plan on wearing dresses as well. I have quite a few Maxis and I also plan on getting knee or tea length dresses as well. You would not catch me dead in shorts under any circumstance, so I think a tank dress is the way to go.

Maxi dress= a flowy (generally) dress that goes to the ankles.

I went in August 2009 and it was Hot, Hot, HOT (granted I was 17 wks pregnant). I am used to the Texas heat but I almost passed out the first 15 mins in the park, I was that hot (I think it was all the coffee I had that AM also). I recovered, no issues the rest of the trip...Anywho, I did wear a dress one day and it was just past the knees and the breeze was nice...I would fear that the maxi wouldnt allow for that however I don't generally wear them because I am wayyy too short for them : )

My DD wore regular dresses with no issues.

We too mostly wore shorts and tees/tanks.

I wore that least August as I was pregnant and decided that neither me or the girls would wear dresses again. I had to wear shorts under as my thighs were rubbing and ouch! I am able to wear them at home in the summer but not Disney. The humidity is too high. I much prefer the short and tank/tees top alternative to dresses. To answer your question, no the dress wasn't in the way to do anything.

LOL You won't catch me dead in shorts either! I do not like showing my legs.

I usually wear tennis skorts (skirts with spandex shorts underneath), but last trip I also wore a few knee length light cotton dresses. I plan to do the same during our trip this August.

One suggestion... try an anti-chafing gel (Lanacane and Monistat both make them). You just need a tiny bit and it dries to a silky/powdery feel. Even if you're really skinny and your thighs don't touch when you walk with all that humidity it can still be uncomfortable when you sit down or cross your legs.

As for rides, you should have no issues with skirts/dresses. However with really long dresses you will want to be careful on the moving platforms. My sister wore maxi dresses when she went and she mentioned that she often felt that she had to grab the dress with one hand and hold it up when getting on/off these types of rides.

We always go Aug/Sept & I couldn't wear a sundress but, for DD, that's all she wears. I get her all short little sundresses. It's cooler for her & much easier in the restrooms, I don't have to get grossed out by shorts hitting the bathroom floors.
