Morning,

I'm looking at booking for either August 2010 or October 2010.

To be honest I'm leaning towards October mainly because it's cheaper, it's Halloween and I'll have longer to save up!

Before I take the plunge and book I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice about either, especially October. Weather, crowds...etc

The dates we're looking at are Tuesday 19th October - Saturday 30th October 2010. I know this is British school hols but I'm not too sure about the American kids?

There is a chance that I wont be able to do either in 2010 and it will have to wait until 2011 :headache: Really depends on the cash situation...

Thanks in advance :thumbsup2

I would defo lean towards halloween season i would love to go then :goodvibes

I love October. If you want lovely weather, low crowds and the halloween atmosphere go then.

August is far too hot and humid for me, I'd only go that time of year if I had no choice. Rather be too hot than stuck here lol. Crowds are worse in August too with lots of rain.

Another vote for October. MNSSHP is a must do but the weather is fantastic shorts and t-shirts and not a great deal of rain.
We have a family wedding this year at the end of July in Chicago which is why we are doing Disney in August but I wouldn't have done it otherwise.

Haven't done October yet, but have done high season middle August, end of August, beginning of September and middle of September. We're attempting an October trip next year, flying out the last Monday of September and crossing over into October.

There are two things that will be majorly different between August and October - the temperature and the crowds.

American schools are out June through to Labour Day, so August they are all there. Then of course, the British schools are July to beginning of September, so we're all there too. I should imagine there are quite a few other countries around the world that observe the same school schedules. So it is busy, queues are long, even with fastpass, and parks that you could get around in half a day become dragged over 2 days, because of all the waiting. Everywhere is busy, the counter services, the restaurants, the shops...

People, people, everywhere!

October will be our half term, but I have a feeling Americans don't really do 'half-terms', they tend to get random days at the end of their semesters, and then big things like Thankgiving/Christmas/Easter off.

Looking at the 2010-2011 school year for Orange County, it looks like there's a day off for them on 15th October, and then they don't finish until the 28th October, and go back on the 1st November (just one or two days off). So, locally at least, you should be good!

Free dining almost doesn't come into play now because of the credit crunch it's difficult for anyone to go on holiday, so this year at least, it's been offered to UK people from August through to December (if booked before July) through DisneyUK, so while DDP does bring in extra people, it shouldn't be too much of an issue for you in October.

And the temperatures will be considerably different too. I don't mind the heat and humidity, but my mum and especially sister, are terrible in it! I think last year (September only trip) was the first year that my sister didn't try to faint on us due to the temps/humidity, which is saying something.

Unless you are up for waking at the crack of dawn and being at the parks for rope drop, returning to your hotel for the best part of a day, and then heading back out again at night, then October is better. AK is the worst park in those temps. I refuse to stay in AK past about 11am, and even then it's a push, so we barely got to go there when we did August holidays!

We've also found out August holidays (and beginning of Sept) to be plagued by the normal mid-afternoon torrential downpours! They seem to lessen the further into October you go, and I guess October is even better. They only last for an hour or so, but they do tend to bring a lot of outdoor rides to a stand still!

The other thing is August/September are busy months for hurricane activity, but the further into September/October you go, the more you find that the hurricanes start to travel southwards of Florida and become less of a problem - instead, as they sweep past Florida, they take all the rain clouds and make the temps in case! - according to our DVC guide!

Soooooooo, the point of the post? If you have a choice between August and October? Do October!!! Flights will be cheaper, hotels will be cheaper, and hotels/parking should be cheaper over here too, to get you to the airport! ;):goodvibes

The majority of people who go in August do so because of the 6 week school holiday period, it's one the few times you can go for at least a fortnight and still have time to recover from jet leg etc on the return home before school starts again.
Unfortunatley that's one of the few plus points, as visiting then it's extremely hot, very expensive and with Dining Plan in full swing busier than it used to be.

I would opt for October if given the choice between the two.... but only if I could go for 2 weeks.

In our case it would have to be August as my wife is a teacher, meaning summer holidays is the logical time to go, October half-term is only 1 week for us.

Having been 3 times in august(due to working in a school at the time) and 3 times in October, I would choose October! Its quieter, not as humid, still quite hot, you have mnsshp you also can see how americans celebrate halloween by going around celebration or other housing to see the houses dressed up-that is an amazing sight! also the food and wine festival is on in epcot, this does make it more crowded there, so avoid going at the weekend.
the dates that we have been in october have been
7th-25th
23rd-6th nov
26th-10th nov
so i think we have more or less covered the whole month :rotfl: and can say that each time, less crowds than August and a much nicer experience than in August!

As you have a choice I would definately go in October. August is quite hot and humid whereas we have always found October weather to be perfect for us. It is much less crowded in October. Like others have said Halloween and the houses decorated at Celebration are great to see. Halloween nights at Universal (different ticket to the daytime ticket but a completely different experience) are absolutely brilliant but a bit to scarey if you have very young ones. If you have teenagers or like something different yourself then it is not to be missed.

Another vote for October :)
Not so hot and humid, not so busy, probably cheaper flights too and as you said, Halloween!!!

We've done both. Given the choice, we would do October again, but we have two sons in school and I also work in a school, so it's a no-go now.
Weather is a lot more "human" in October. A couple of days, CM's had coats on laughing at us Brits in shorts and vests, but to be honest it was like our summer! MNSSHP can't be missed! - great fun
