My daughter and I planned and booked an 8/2-9 vacation. Now, her school (and my work) start date has been pushed back to late August due to school renovations. Would it be wise to move it back a week or two? Are crowd levels significantly less? How easy is it to cancel and rebook a southwest flight?

If you can move the trip to the 3rd week in August, the crowds will be noticeably improved. The 4th week will be even better.

Most schools on the south return to classes mid August.

We are flying with Southwest for the first time ever this year and due to change in our schedules we had to move our July trip to Disneyland up to June. We had purchased wanna fly away tickets with southwest and had no issue whatsoever changing our flights. There was no fee but just be aware that if you pick a more expensive flight you will have to pay the difference right then. With that being said if you find a flight that cost less than what you current flight is you will be issued a credit that you can use toward a future flight. I believe you have up to a year to use your credit maybe? Even though we have yet to fly with them so far our experience with the flexibility of changing your flight has been awesome! We have always flown with American and they give you no budging room with changing unless you pay a hefty price. This has been my experience and I hope it helps. Good luck with planning your trip! :goodvibes

Thank you...

The latest we could visit is the 2nd/3rd week. Are cried levels much lower than week one?

easywdw.com still has the week of 10-16 as level 7 and the week of 17-23 as 6's and 5's. The week you're scheduled for is a level 8.

IF you can change your flight and reservation with NO added charges, I would do it just because it will be less crowded. But if it's going to cost you, it's probably not enough of a difference to make it worth more money.

Also, do you have good dining reservations? If you move, you will have to redo all your ressies and may lose some you really wanted. If you don't have anything you really care about, then it doesn't matter, but I thought you should consider it.

We go to WDW often in August. Each week sees crowds drop another level.

First week - summer typical high crowd level
Week 2 - A little better
Week 3 - Good, especially early in day
Week 4 - uncrowded, a real pleasure. Barely need fastpass.

One caveat - in years that free dining was offered in August, crowds swelled up a bit more.

Thank you everyone! Changing my SW flights was a breeze and so was changing our Disney reservation. August 17-24, here we come!!!!
