Giving some thought to a mid August trip (I know...it's hot!) We used to travel to Disney during this month years ago..so I know what to expect heat wise..but we have never brought our TT to Disney before. I am wondering what some of you do regarding the AC. I worry about running the unit all the time...and if I remember correctly..I'll be needing it quite a bit in August. We are thinking of bringing our dog..so of course then I'd run it for sure. I do worry about possible power outages that often occur in campgrounds. Any of that in FW? If it just turns out to be my husband and myself..the dog will stay home with one of the kids. If they decided to join us..he'll be coming along.

We just set the thermostat and leave it alone. It runs as needed and keeps the rv comfy for when we return. Our 32nd trip to FW is this coming weekend (!!!!!!) and knock on wood we've never lost power--except that one time we had the air, tv and vcr running and then turned on the microwave and then we just had to turn back on the breaker at the box. (Insert pounding head with hammer smilie here)

I never worried about leaving the dog in the rv in the summer, but we were usually only gone for 4 or so hours at a time and with all the shading around it would take the rv a while to heat up. Don't have to worry about it this trip.....that's going to feel odd........

Been to FW several times in August and always run the air nonstop. If you have Fantastic vents, set them to 80 degrees. That way if the air goes off the vents will start up when the TT/coach starts heating up.

Do you actually enjoy the campground amenities much in August..or are you there for the parks? Was visiting FW last week during our trip to the WL. May is a really delightful time. We biked around for hours. I'm not sure how much of that we'd be able to do in August. However we do have some vacation time schedule for then, and would like to go if we can swing it.

We set the thermostat and go as others have said. It takes too long to cool down the coach after you have been in the parks all day if you leave it off while you are gone. It is nice to walk into the TT or coach or popup (we have now done all three) when it is much cooler than then outside air. It makes winding down much easier!

I would be worried to leave a pet because of power failure but as others have said in different posts you can get a fan that is mounted in the roof vent and it's 12 volt and would deliver cool air in case the power did go off.

My new camper has a thermostat but in the other 2 campers it was just off or on lol. I did turn the knob to warmer just a little so it would cycle off every once in a while. I would say though in August it would be a must to keep it on.

A/C is a must in August. If you love Fifi, leave it running :thumbsup2 .

I've never had a power outage at FW. Other campgrounds, yes, but not FW. :rolleyes1

When the kids were still in school we went in August nearly every year. None of us ever used any of the park amenities. Too busy in the parks. Don't think we ever stepped foot in a pool! We did have an AP to River Country, and that was great. We chose late August because the crowds were much lower.

We were there in April and the power went out in the section of the 500 loop we were in. I called the Outpost and they sent someone right over and had it back on about an hour later. Never heard what happen.

We, too, travel to Diseny in the summer with our dog. We leave the air on, but also are sure to be back by early afternoon in order to make sure she is fine. Then, a nap and lunch, and out again in the late afternoon. If we are going to be gone all day (when we do Animal Kingdom), we drive to the park with the dog and leave her at one of Disney's kennels and visit and walk her at lunch.

If we don't have the dog, we still leave it on, but at a higher temp. We want to be comfy when we get in, but hate wasting electricity. We then just lower it a little and it is cooler in minutes.

Hi, we have always camped in August and leave the A/C on. I have never had a power outage in FW but regardless my DH checks on the dogs every couple of hours, plus he can't stand being in the parks all day so it is his good excuse to leave :)

I would hope that the fact I'm in a pet loop that if something should happen to the power that Disney would be on top of it. We have used the kennel so that is always an option as well.

We run our's 24/7...:hourglass Too hot to shut it off!!! :sunny:
