After a terrible trip this October I am wanting to try something different...I am thinking August 5th through the 12th. How are the crowds usually this time of year?? I looked up closures from last year and August doesn't seem to have many closures since most rides go down in September for Halloween.

We always to August and the crowds the last two years have been very variable. The park is always busy, two years ago after the unblock it was crazy busy. This last year it was busy but very doable since the AP's were still blocked. Always warm, mid 80's for the most but can get warmer. Each day a number of rides were down, BLAB, BTMRR, Indy to name a few but they were always up later in the day. Why such a bad trip in Oct?

It rained the entire trip and I had hotel issues with Park Vue Inn so next time I'm sticking with HoJo and just hoping for no rain next year. I enjoy the week we go normally (third week of October) because the crowds are low but the rain really ruined the trip this last year :(

We have been in Disneyland on August 5 several times since that is my younger son's birthday. I agree with Jack that crowds can be quite variable, but we usually find them manageable. We have had worse experiences with crowds on a busy October weekend when everyone was there to see the Halloween stuff. You are right too that most rides will be up and running because Disney seems to try to keep the planned closures to a minimum during the summer. We have had similar experiences as Jack though with rides breaking down more frequently with the heavier crowds and longer hours that the rides have to be up and running. It has usually been upper 80s when we have gone at this time of year, but it has gotten up into the 90s on occasion as well. Still, we have been fortunate not to experience the kind of miserable heat my brother and his family had when they went during the unanticipated September heat wave this year.

BTW, curious what your issues were with Park Vue if you don't mind sharing? I've thought about staying there but keep shying away from it. We've tried a few places and had favorable experiences at most, but Hojos is where we keep going back, ten times and counting. Hard to beat their rates at the times that we have gone, and we have just been very comfortable there.

We have had good luck with August trips and weather and managed to never be there during a heat wave. Crowds have always been manageable - except in 2005 during the 50th celebration when they were quite heavy. Early arrival, Fastpass and afternoon breaks make it all much easier.
