August booking on short-ish notice

I'm looking to buy 160 points resale at AKV with a March UY which will close in early February if all goes well. I currently have a trip planned for early August, but may move it to mid-August if need be. At 5-6 months out do I have any chance of getting a studio anywhere? Would I be better off booking later in the year (Thanksgiving week) or banking them for the following year?

Aug is a slow to moderate DVC demand time with second half of the month, when points are lower, having somewhat more demand than first half. Even so, the near park resorts are likely to be difficult if you cannot reserve until 6 or 5 months out while openings are likely to exist at SSR, OKW and AKV (other than value or club level rooms). Thanksgiving time is an extremely high DVC demand time, much will fill fairly quickly after the 11 month window opens, and it can be difficult to get most things other than SSR at 7 months out.

I think that we'd probably be happy with any of the DVC resorts since we are normally value people and haven't stayed at a DVC resort before. The studios at Saratoga Springs & OKW look to be nicer than the rooms at Pop and AoA (although the themeing at AoA is pretty sweet) and are definitely bigger. If any of the 1 bedroom value rooms are left at AKV we could even do a shorter trip and have enough points for one of those, which would definitely be an upgrade.

I'd just hate to buy into it and not be able to use it this year.

You'll just have to see what's available when you close. There's a decent chance for AKV, even a 1BR value. It helps if you're flexible when you can go.

August is usually easy to get a DVC ressie. We have even gotten BW, BC for a few nights in August just a few months out.

Late August is definitely busier than early ?AUGUST. We are AKV owners and I messed up our 2 bedroom Savannah view in August 2013 and found I couldn't change after 7 months as it was fully booked. OKW and SSR including Treehouses were available though. Surprisingly we found BLT easier to get than AKV

Last year we went Aug 23rd and booked on Aug 22. I do not recommend that but there were AKL studios and SSR available.
