August 7th, 2010 Mediterranean Cruise

The news this morning said that it was going to start feeling like summer here in the Pacific Northwest. 70s today and 80s the rest of the week. I might have to take my 3 pairs of shorts out of the cruise pile.:rolleyes1

Off to pick up nother sister's kids (this one lives about an hour away instead of a coast away). Its hard to be the oldest, longest married, and my kids are yound adults. My local neices are 7 and 8 and their mom (my baby sister) is going to have a C-section tomorrow for baby #3. I am keeping the kids for a couple of days to make it easier for her.

I hope everyone has a great day!:cloud9:

Exciting times, wishing them a safe arrival for baby number 3 :)

At what stage did those of you who were GTY get your assignments? Obviously I only booked yesterday as cat 12 GTY but I can't resist checking every couple of hours in case they assigned my room! Patient? Me... 'fraid not!

:rotfl: I know, I think I am going to breakout some of my sundresses in my cruise pile and where them to work this week!

You're a great sister...have fun with the kids!

Hi Gang -

I had read on some of the other Meets that people create custom lanyards so that people can recognize each other while on board. I have asked Jordak on DISboards to come up with a graphic which I have included below. (Sorry about the size - I was having problems attaching it. I also attached a link if you have problems viewing the graphic here.) So, wanted to run it by everyone to see what you think.

My thoughts since we are close to sailing is that everyone who wanted to participate could add their names, print and insert into their lanyard. It might be a good idea to add your DISboard name as well as your real name to the graphic.

Would love to get everyone's input! :confused3

Thanks!
Lisa

Wow, Lisa! What a great job on the insert...What font did you use??

I didn't create the graphic so not sure what the font is. There is a person named "Jordak" on DISboards that creates great graphics and I asked him to come up with something. Though, when I manipulated the graphic after posting it here, I added my families names in the middle section and used the font Waltograph for our names. Since there was limited space in that section, I added my DISboards name in the left side bottom corner. I will try to post it if I can figure it out :surfweb:

Hi Mel,
We just got our GTY rooms assigned around June 22...We're a total group of 19, spread across 3 different categories, and 4 of us got cabins very close together, and the third is same side but one level up...It certainly makes it more real when you actually have a cabin number!! :woohoo:

Hi Everyone,

I know this is last minute but we are going to book a private tour in Rome and possibly in Naples and were wondering if there's anyone out there (a group of 2 to 3 max) who would be interested in sharing with us. There are 5 of us in total (3 adults, 2 boys aged 15 and 4).

In Rome we're looking at Rome Connection which would cost 550 Euros for an air conditioned minivan that seats up to 8 people (so for 8 ppl that would be 68.75 Euros per person, 7 ppl would be 78.57 Euros per person - doesn't include tip, lunch, or admissions). They would pick us up and drop us off at the pier and take us on a tour of all the big sites

* 08:00 am pick up from the pier
* visit at the Colosseo (12 euro per person not included)
* visit at the Circus Maximus
* visit at the Aventin Hill
* visit at the Roman Forum from top of the Capitol Hill
* visit at the Pantheon
* visit at the Trevi Fountain
* visit at the Spanish Steps
* Stop for Lunch (not included)
* Visit at the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter Basilica
(20 euro per person not included)
Back to the pier around at 6.00 pm

In Naples it would be 540 Euros for an air conditioned minivan that seats up to 8 people (doesn't include tip, lunch, or admissions - we're open to whether or not you'd like to do the private guide in Pompei)

* 08:30 am Pickup from the Port
* 09:30 am Visit Pompei with a Private Guide
(11 euro per person not included)
(Private Guide is Extra but very suggested 100 euro 2 hours lenghth - )
* 01:00 pm Lunch in Sorrento Restaurant with a view of Naples
* 03:00 pm Visit Positano and the Amalfi Coast
* 05:30 pm Back to the Port

Let us know ASAP if you're interested and we'll book the tour! It's way cheaper than doing the Disney tours and I think we'll see more than being in a large bus.

Cheers!
Camille

that's awesome, lisa - i am also going to expand it, and use it as a door magnet! Thanks for the great idea for the lanyards!

Camille you are going to have a great time. We are a 4 and also DH and I have toured both a couple of times and feel our youngest DD (2 and a half) is too small for the long tours so we won't be able to join you.

i hope you find someone. Also, just my opinion but with a short amount of time in Pompeii I would say it is definitely worth spending the extra on the Private Guide. There is lots to see but with a private guide they will be able to take you to the highlights so you can get the most out of your time there - it is amazing :)

Thanks for the advice on the tour guide Mel! Looking forward to meeting all of you! Camille :)

Hi everyone,

I posted awhile ago that I design door magnets, and figured it was about time to get started on those :goodvibes I'm posting a few examples of "personal" magnets I've made for the last cruise I was on. I can make these with your name and choice of character, ear color, and background color/pattern. If you have any requests, feel free to post them or send me a PM and I'll get started right away! I also make larger "family" magnets that serve as more of a centerpiece; I'll post some examples of those once I get them uploaded. I can also provide instructions on exactly how to get the designs printed onto magnet paper without stretching the image if anyone needs help with that :)

I only posted two since the images were really big and I didn't want to stretch the post too much, so to see the rest of my magnets as I upload them, here's my photobucket account:

So I realize - unlike oh so many other cruises - ours does not seem to have a name - any ideas? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

got it. off to order some Euros for the trip

One thing to keep in mind is you usually get a better rate on foreign currency if you get it from that country. We are military living in England right now with an American credit union on base for us. I still get my Pounds from local ATM machines at a lot better rate, same with Euro when we visit other countries. Just something to keep in mind. :)
