August 7th, 2010 Mediterranean Cruise

I just spoke to someone at our Barcelona Hotel. Apparently, there is a hotel policy city-wide where no more than 3 people can stay in one room. In our case, there are four of us, DH, DD10, DD7, and I.

We booked a two queen bed room where we can all easily sleep. Suprisingly, the hotel stated that no more than three people can be in a room and that an adjacent single room must be purchased.

I am shocked. Does anyone else have this issue?

Thanks!

I have heard that too - i was just going to *forget* to add my six year old - and request a crib for the baby - figure that a sofa and/or pull out is going to be in each room per the hotel website...

I did not know the policy was city wide - just figured it was a cultural kind of thing - italy was the same way this spring when we drove down there - that is strange though, i know the novotel hotel will let you have more per room...... go figure..

I asked our hotel over and over again and they know that we will have 4 in our room. That is also why we are staying there. I could have gotten two rooms at Hotel 1898, which would only allow two of us in a room. I booked one room at our hotel for the same price. I really wanted us all to be in the same room. So, that is interesting that they are stating it is a "City" thing. :confused3

We are so excited and need help for our hotel. What are the names of the hotels that will allow 4 people...as we are a family of 4!
Kids are 9 (boy) and 12 Girl) The kids would love the chocolate factory, so thanks for that "lead". We arrive in BA the 5th in the morning, just FYI!

cant wait to meet many of you. (this is our 5th cruise, but first with this wonderful itinerary!)

Now for that secret floor, do you mean on the ship? there's is apparently a secret floor which staterooms like ours 7535 have access.

I think you mean the secret deck aft ship. Its a small quiet deck. Very nice!

We had to get 2 rooms one for 2 people one for 3. We normally get a room with 2 queens and a roll away in the US.

But amazingly I think if I remember correctly you and I are in the same hotel (Hotel Arts) and they told us (and our travel agent) unequivocally that we could NOT put four in a room, even though our youngest is 6. We had to get 2 rooms and chose the Hotel Arts because we could get two connecting rooms..

a couple of use are doing the choc tour at noon on 8/6

If any other families are doing something fun and exciting in the late afternoon/early evening, please let us know. It will be nice to meet more families prior to the actual cruise.

We are planning to decorate our door with magnets. I heard that the DCL is discouraging cruisers from using adhesives. I will be magnet shopping this week. Last cruise which was the Mexican Riviera, we used tamale and sombrero decorated plastic table cloths to decorate the doors. What is everyone planning to do with their doors?

One more thing, I learned from that the Catalans eat lunch around 2 p.m. and dinner around 9 p.m., which means it's breakfast and lunch time for us.

I did a lot of research on laundromats, mailing items, and internet access while we are in Barcelona. And, I wanted to share with everyone what I have found.

There are a few self-service and serviced laundromats in the Old Town, including Tigre, Carrer de Rauric 20, and Lavamax, Junta de Comerç 14. Some dry cleaners (tintorerías) also do laundry.

The local postage system is both reliable and efficient, though services such as FedEx are available if you prefer to use them. To send an airmail letter or postcard to the United States costs .78€ ($1) for up to 20 grams. Airmail letters to Britain or other E.U. countries cost .60€ (78¢) up to 20 grams; letters within Spain cost .39€ (51¢).

Post your letters in the post office itself or in yellow post boxes called buzones. Buy stamps in an Oficina de Correos (post office) or in an estanco (a government-licensed tobacconist easily recognized by its brown and yellow logo). For further information, check the Spanish post office website, www.correos.es.

Postcards have the same rates as letters. Post your letters in the post office itself or in yellow post boxes called buzones. Allow about 8 days for delivery to North America, generally less to the United Kingdom; in some cases, letters take 2 weeks to reach North America. Rates change frequently, so check at your local hotel before mailing anything. As for surface mail to North America, forget it. Chances are you'll be home long before your letter arrives. For more information, check the Spanish post office website, www.correos.es.

If you don't want to receive your mail at your hotel or the American Express office, direct it to Lista de Correos at the central post office (Correu Central). To pick up mail, go to the window marked Lista, where you'll be asked to show your passport. Barcelona's central office is in Plaza San Antonio López, past the southern end of the Born; the nearest Metro station is Barceloneta (tel. 93-486-80-50).

Internet access is plentiful, both in cybercafes and more and more frequently in hotels. The Bornet Internet Café (Barra del Ferro 3, Born; tel. 93-268-15-07; www.bornet-bcn.com) has 16 terminals and charges 2.60€ ($3.40) per hour.

:thumbsup2

We are also decorating using magnats and our fish extender goodies are magnets. On our last cruise my sister's kids made shrinky dink magnets for the door. I found all our old ones from the holidays 2008. Christmas just doesn't appy but a lot of things like our ears and label magnets do.

we made most of them on the computer so we could personalize them. Magnetic paper works great!

Where did you find magnetic paper?

Yes, we talked about this a while back and are both at Hotel Arts. Even after our posts about it, I contacted them again because I was so paranoid about the room situation. I made sure I had it in writing. My confirmation says "Guests in room: 2 adults & 2 children." I am wondering if it has to do with the age of the children. My boys are 7 and 9 and I think you said your oldest was 11, so not sure if there is a cut off for age :confused3

We are decorating our door as well. My boys love Star Wars so we have a Disney Star Wars theme. We have never decorated our door before so we are looking forward to having some fun with it. I had a lot of help on Disboards obtaining graphics. I printed out the graphics and then laminated them. I will be putting magnets on the back to adhere them to the door.

May the force be with you all :rotfl: BTW: I started to officially pack today :cool1:

That's a great idea on magnet paper. I have to find it online. The next four weeks are going to be extremely busy.

I will find out what the DD's want to decorate the door. On our last cruise, it was easy to find our room with the door decorations. I will let you all know what theme we decided.

We also picked up the carry-on little items like Dramamine non-drowsy formula and the chewable kind, too for the DDs. I picked up extra 6 oz. bottles for our shampoos, facial products, etc. I couldn't find the toilet seat covers which I normally bought at Target.

Anymore tips for the carry-on? e.g. rolled up towel in a pillow-case or extra pair of socks to wear when walking through the metal detector.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

He he he. definetly a small world - I grew up in Scotts Valley - I definetly do miss it back home - someday i will get to go back!

Looking forward to meeting y'all!

Online. Or at office supply stores...I usually get ours at Staples

Thanks, they actually have a Staples here in England. I'll have to go and look for some soon. I'm getting so stessed, we have only a month to go and I haven't even decided any of our excursions or made REAL packing lists. I'm usually so much more on top of it. I barely booked our Barcelona hotel 2 nights ago! :scared: Do you know if the paper will still stick if you laminate it?

Generally what we do is print the images right on the paper - it feeds through inkjet printers -- and then there is no need to laminate.

it doesn't work if you laminate. the magnat isnt strong enough. We usually print right on the magnatic paper it is 8.5 x 11 and goes right throught the printer.

Starting to collect my clothes today, easy enough since it hasnt gotten out of the 60s here in the Seattle area. I haven't worn shorts yet. Now that I am getting it all together it will finally get warm. I wasnt going to do this but I talked to my sister and she asked me how many dresses I was bringing and I said 2 and she said your kidding. As I thought about it it won't work for 11 days and 3 in Barcelona. then she asked about shorts. I said I owned 3 pairs and she went crazy on me. Now I better figure out what I need and what I have. I hope Macys is having a sale!
