August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

I will also be sporting a new accessory for part of the cruise, will not be the whole time....I have to wear a wrist brace for at least the next 8 weeks. I saw the ortho today and he's not quite sure what is wrong; there's a bit of arthritis and a small bone spur in my thumb joint and there could also be a weird case of carpel tunnel. I have to go for an EMG to see what else is going on with my thumb/wrist. I really don't like getting old :sad2:

If you'd quit hitch-hiking and buy a car, maybe you wouldn't have that problem! ;)

I have four or five cards for my camera, because I bought the smaller ones to begin with. It doesn't matter if they're all on one card, or split between the two. When I put my pics into the computer, I had to check each card first, I wanted them to load "in order"....from Day 1 and so on.

Jay & I are used to doing our own excursions...so we prefer (most of the time) to go it alone....BUT...if he weren't with me, I would stick with the ships' excursions. No way would I go out and about, in a strange place, with just Jordan and I...or any of the kids.

We've never been to Hawaii...I would love to go someday....

:rotfl2: I never would have thought that was my problem, that's great advice :rotfl2:

Sorry to hear about your wrist Barb, but it will help us recognize you if you wear it at the port and to Sailaway.

Only five weeks from today guys!! :sunny:

I practiced with my camera in the rose garden this morning. DH says the light is better at dusk or dawn for that. I noticed that you can't really see on the monitor in the sun, I had to go to shade and it was better inside. DH took some photos with the camera on its side like with the film camera. I was wondering though if you upload those online, will they be sideways or can you rotate them? I am so green on this stuff... :confused3

Cathy

Cathy that was my thought too. I just have to remember to take it off going thru the metal detector. I learned that the stupid way, at Heathrow Airport, when I had to wear a brace on my left wrist. I may have to Disney it up a bit.

Cathy I believe you can rotate the pics once online. I know the ones that I email from my camera phone allow me to do that. I think you can do just about anything to the pics to touch them up.

Yep...you can rotate them so that they are "upright". ANd I love being able to get rid of wrinkles! Being able to edit the pics is a great thing.
Some of my indoor shots were too dark...so I was able to lighten them up...

It is almost impossible to use the little screen (I can never remember the name of it...monitor?) out in the sunlight. That's when I use the regular viewfinder. Another problem...my prescription sunglasses have the non-glare feature...using the viewfinder with my sunglasses is almost impossible. I have to lower my glasses and look through the viewfinder half blind.

I don't know how....but it appears as though the fires may have finally been put out. I hope I don't jinx myself with that. They were headed back over the ridge and straight toward us late yesterday and last night. Today, I can't even see any smoke, let alone flames! :cool1: Thanks for the prayers!

Stacey, glad to hear everything is ok with the fires!

Hope everyone has a great 4th! We're off to a huge wedding of the son of one of my co-workers. They're from India and it's going to be a huge and very traditional wedding. I'm really looking foreward to it!
Tomorrow is our annual 4th of July block party!

When we went to WDW last year on our family vacation - we had just arrived at the airport when my digital camera DIED. I was devastated. We ended up using all of the disposable cameras I had brought along for the kids to use. Got some great shots but that cost a lot to have them all developed and then put on discs. So, we've got a fairly new camera that I bought after we got back from our trip last year. I always bring along my laptop so I don't have to worry about my memory cards getting full. If anybody needs to download to my laptop, just bring along your cable.

No highlights for me, though. I've considered it in the past but just not brave enough to do it. I always thought my hair was too black...

Barb - sorry to hear about your wrist. At least I'll know what to look for when we get to the port....;)

Stacey - glad to hear that the fires are dying out. No problems with fires here - just a few tornadoes every once in a while.

Have a happy FOURTH everyone!

Just look for me at the port with my wrist brace and carrying a DCL backpack with a grey teddy bear sticking out the top of it. There shouldn't be too many people matching that description

Stacey do you have a picture that you could post? I am clueless as to how to do that and haven't figure it out yet :confused3

Stacey - Glad to hear the fires have died out and your area was spared! Thanks too for the camera info. DH said he bought a 1 Gb card so that should be more than enough. I should get my camera out of the box though and try it out!

Eve - If we download to your laptop would we then just save it to a flash/jump drive?? I hope Brynee doesn't fill up a whole card!

Vickie - Just read a newspaper article that said "Adventures with Disney" will have a trial run next year. The vacation (land only) spots, 7 day trips, are Hawaii and Wyoming. Disney guides take you around to 3 islands in Hawaii; not sure of the locations in Wyoming. I guess it's a guided tour the Disney way!

My friend Sonia is on the Magic right now! I am really excited for her as it is her first cruise - I gave her a cruise kit with bubbles, Pirate eye patches, and a Mickey head door magnet :earsboy: !!

It's 100 degrees today so we've been inside watching movies - Netflix is great! - and also went to watch Batman Begins. Kinda dark movie and a little slow at times. Hopefully we will just relax and swim tomorrow. DD Traci works in the morning and then Brynee is off to a barbecue/fireworks party in the evening. Hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th!!

Happy July 4th everyone!

I'm off to the beach in the morning to pick up DD and bring her home for a few days. She has a b'day party on Wed. and we have another one Sat. night. Plus, Tuesday afternoon we have seats to a QVC live broadcast; we may be on tv again. After the broadcast we are going shopping at the hoity toity mall
Be safe.

We went to dinner with a group of 15 tonight...no fireworks here, obviously....but have been and will continue to stay in and just do "nothing". I love it! I'm working with a new photo editing program....guaranteed (by the Circuit City guy) to make my life easier! I asked him if it would cook and do dishes...he didn't think that was funny. No sense of humor, those computer guys. :confused3

Jenny....my TA e-mailed a couple of months ago and asked me if I wanted her to sign me up for one of those Disney Adventures. Would have loved to have gone to Hawaii....but the timing was/is wrong. Bummer.

Hope everyone has beautiful weather this weekend like CT. It is supposed to be more humid today and in the 80's, but the last two days were wonderful! :cool1:

I am trying to get familiar with uploading photos and fixing red eye. It can all be confusing with all the different photo sharing places.

I wish these weekends wouldn't go by so fast!

Cathy

I'm still having trouble with the slides that we had put on disk. It's just too confusing. The photo program seems pretty good...but it looks like I'll eventually have to get a DVD player that will accept and play jpeg files. I am still bugged about all the disks that are only compatable with certain players, and vice versa....what's the point of "saving paper" and space by going digital, if we won't be able to view them when we're 80??? :headache:
I may just print them all out and put them in albums afterall..........

Sorry for the vent!

Hope everyone had a wonderful FOURTH!

Stacey - At least you're venting about tech stuff! I've finally taken some pics with my camera and that is as far as I've gotten. DH has used his and loaded pics onto his laptop and now uses one of his pics as his wallpaper! I was fine with just snapping a pic. Haven't even used the usb hook-ups yet!
Also sounds like you have a great TA! I bet you make it to Hawaii soon - Disney or not!!

Cathy - Which photo sharing website are you using? I've checked ripway as Eve suggested and have also looked at photobucket. I just want to research which one is easiest!

Bubbles anyone?? I bought a box of the mini-bubble bottles. I have approx. 20 bottles to give-away to whomever may want to use them at the Sail-Away party   . Let me know, as I don't want to lug them onto the ship if no one wants to use them. Brynee will think I'm crazy; but Sonia was happy to get bubbles and the eye-patches!

I use Photobucket, so therefore, it MUST be easy!

I just saw Barb and Alexa on QVC!!! A cooking show. Pretty cool, they are celebrities now. Barb was having a hard time clapping with her brace on!

I wish I had seen Barb on QVC! That is so cool.

I am still playing with different photo websites. I got the camera at Ritz and they gave me software that does the photo finishing and sharing off my PC rather than the web. But they had a limit as to how many photos you could share a month (have a package where you can pay more for unlimited). My DD uses Photobucket and says it is better to send a link to the photo rather than email a photo and it was clearer when she showed me.

I also tried Snapfish which is used from my Cable company's home page (Comcast) through which I have Cable modem. I am still confused, but I am glad I am learning about it, it is so much better than film cameras.

Cathy

I have the software that came with my camera and don't really know how to use it. I really haven't tried to edit any pictures but I have ordered prints from Ofoto (I had a coupon that came in the newspaper so I gave them a try). That was easy and nice pictures. For Christmas I got an Epson Picturemate photo printer. It only prints 4x6 pictures or 2 wallets but I'm very pleased with the quality! It does not have to be connected to the computer, you just pop your memory card into it and choose what you want it to do and hit print. My camera has the DPOF option and I can just scan through my pictures in the camera and check the ones I want to print, pop my memory stick in the picturemate and hit print. I love it. Its super easy and pics are 29 cents each because you buy a kit with ink and paper for 100 pics for $29. Although I'm still using my first ink cartidge and I've bought more paper so its less than the 29 cents. I look like an Epson ad here - maybe they should be paying me!
