August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

Hi Barb - Enjoy your new weekend freedom!! I spent most of the day at Brynee's tennis tournament - she had a lot of fun:D Fortunately, the weather has cooled down from the 100's into the 70's.
Even with 2 DDs, I also take them shopping separately...I find I am more patient that way!
Have a great weekend everyone!!

Barb - After years and years and years of working every other weekend I have a job that I have weekends and holidays off (rare in the nursing field). Enjoy having your weekends! You will get used to it soooo fast!
Vickie

Thanks Jenny and Vickie. I really got used to having off the weekends last holiday season when I had my wrist operated on. That played a major part in my decision to leave at this time. I feel it is more important to be at home with my family this holiday season, especially since we move a week from Monday. I don't want to look at boxes for too long and now I will have the time to unpack and enjoy the house. Also, DD started a new school this year and has a ton of homework and projects - something that is very new to her. She is going to a Charter School that focuses on academics, so that means lots of work.
Thanks again ladies.

I am not a big shopper myself, but DD loves to shop. She even likes to help me shop for myself. She has a pretty good eye too as to what looks good on me. She'd rather shop for herself though. If I had more than one, I'd have to take them separately too. Today we had dental cleanings and I make the two appts together for us. How do people do things with more than one kid? My DH is often sick though so he can't help a lot. He did the coaching thing and all, but if he feels good at all he likes to get things done around the house.

Stacey, you don't want to know what mainframe COBOL is I don't think. Suffice it to say it is the big computers not desktop ones and COBOL is a business computer language. They must have a lot more sophisticated languages for the ship's navigation. At least I hope so...

The shopping trip today was a success. We found DD a pair of dress shoes for school, a skirt and a pair a sandals for next year. She's happy and I'm happy :Pinkbounc

 The Horror of it All!!! We were on page two!!!

You're right, Cathy, I don't want to know what COBOL is....too much for my pea brain.

I never did get to the mall this weekend. I was in my closet all day Saturday trying on clothes in an attempt to not have to buy any clothes for me. I just might have what I need.
Didn't take Jordan, because we had THE BOY with us....and she had to clean her room for Grandma's visit.

Got shore excursions booked for the Christmas cruise. Now I can start to study on the Mexican Riviera!

Off to balance my checkbook...doesn't that sound like fun???

Oops, page 2  . I forgot about us, sorry.
I've been battling the flooring contractor, trying to get a plumber, buying blinds, doing change of address for a ton of stuff, signing insurance papers, and who knows what else. Who's brilliant idea was this to move   ?!?
I still have to go to DD's school to find out about her bus stop - they have it at the other end of the developement, that's over ½ mile walking thru new construction. Gotta see what I can do about that one ::yes:: .

I know we have plenty of time for researching our ports but over the weekend I did a search for excursions in Mexico and someone suggested going to RCCL's site and looking up excursions. I did that, read some about the excursions but not much about the area around the ports. Seems to have the standard beach and town tours and catamaran snorkling cruises, I think I only looked at 2 of the ports but I thought that was a good place to start, since those are ports they go to all of the time. I wonder if/when Disney will get excursion info on their site?

Hi Vickie -
I had been reading the Mexico destinations posts on Cruise Critic. But now I have been side-tracked as I started researching French Polynesian cruises for our 25th anniv....but that is still a few years away! Anyway, there is some good info on those boards - a lot of veteran Mexico cruisers.

Back to work for now...

Another thing I've been thinking about with our up coming cruise. I know I read back on the early posts that someone was thinking about the vow renewal. Did anyone check into it? DH and I will be celebrating our 25th in October of 2005, what a great 25th anniversary it would be to renew our vows on the Magic. If anyone has any info on it let me know, if not I may start checking into it. We wouldn't have any family or close friends there but our kids would be there and you guys could be our new best friends and celebrate with us!
Vickie

It would be cool to be guests at a vow renewal and drink a toast to 25 more years for you. Next week is our 15th anniversary and we are going to Ogunquit, Maine for Columbus Day weekend to celebrate. For our 20th I'd like to go on a trip, DD will be starting college that September, maybe we won't want to go too far until she settles in. Then in 2010 we turn 50 within 10 weeks of each other so that could be a cruise or Europe or something! I would rather travel than have a party at home for these events (or do both)

Cathy

Vickie, what a great idea. Stacey is the one with the contact at Fairytale Weddings and knows all the info about the vow renewals - she's the one to ask. That's sweet of you to think of us as your "new best friends" and would like us to celebrate with you. Any reason to celebrate is good enough for me.

Looks like I will be without internet for a couple of days. We are now settling on the old house Friday evening. We are allowed to stay here until Sunday afternoon, then we have to find a place to sleep for the night. We are still settling on the new house Monday afternoon. At least Monday we won't be running ragged trying to get from one lawyer's office to another - and they aren't close to each other.

Vickie...I do have some info, but not really any more than you can get off the DCL website. I do know that they only do two vow renewals on the 7 night cruises, and also, the last I talked to Cathy at FairyTale Weddings, they weren't booking any for the California cruises at all yet. DCL just doesn't have a plan ready. Cathy is meeting with DCL the first week in October to go over some of that stuff, and then she will let me know.
We are trying to do our vow renewal on the Christmas cruise....they have two already booked, and the Captain said "No more"....they do them on sea days, and on the 7 nights, there are only 2 sea days, but at Christmas there are 3....so...we're hoping to either convince the Captain, or go over his head to the DCL execs.
I'll let you know what Cathy says after her meeting with the execs.
Night all! Have a great day tomorrow!
Stacey

Yes Stacey let me know what Cathy says. I think it would be great to be able to do it on the cruise! I thought it may be way too soon for them with the California cruises, but if they have a waiting list or something I would like to get on it.
Vickie

A vow renewal sounds exciting!! There was a wedding on our cruise last month. We met the 'bride and groom to-be' on the spa tour the day before their wedding...then we saw the whole wedding party on the way to the ceremony! It was so exciting to see how happy they all looked and to know that we 'knew' them! I hope everything works out for you Vickie! It would be wonderful to be an honored guest!!

I just read that Soarin' is supposed to open in the spring of 2005. Not surprised that the date is that vague, considering I haven't even heard of an opening date for Stitch's Great Escape. The only dates I have seen are annual passholder previews for the beginning of November, the first weekend if I remember correctly.

Off to pack up the last of our artwork.

Where in EPCOT will Soaring be located? When you do go on it at DL, ask the CM if you can sit in the front/top row of the center section. It is the best:earsboy:

Soarin' will be in The Land pavilion where the old Food Rocks show was located.
I sat in the back row of the left section and the front row of the center section - it was cool to sit there.

Hello everyone....

long day and I'm on my way to bed.

Vickie, I just wanted to give you this phone number...if you want to put your name on a list, call them. Even if they don't know yet if they are going to do weddings and renewals, they'll still be taking names. And better to have your name down now, since they only allow two per 7 night cruise.

Night all!
Stacey

Thanks Stacey. I'll try to call at lunch today, it'll be too late wherever they are when I get home!
