August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

Hey Stace, do you think the b'day HINT can get any louder?!? ...and I'm not daring you to try it either. My mom doesn't want me to have my b'day since she knows her's is next month :eek: .
You really don't have to do me any favors by singing - I think I can manage without a song and dance ::yes:: .

That was very mean of you to get a T.O.P., while I was out to dinner. We aren't giving the other ladies a chance to sneak one in every so often.

T O P:Pinkbounc I just figured out what it means! I'm thinking my daughter may get off of Magic at Puerto Vallarta - Ziplines in the rainforest sounds interesting to me!! Also, taking a water taxi to see the different resorts etc might be ok. My DH doesn't want us to do an independent tour where we may be the only ones on it. Are there any 'teens only' excursions? My DD and I are used to being in diverse groups of friends...we are of Japanese ancestry and live in a city w/very few Japanese-Americans. So, quite often we are the only Asians in the bunch and never notice!! I have a friend going on the July 2nd cruise...she and her family can't go on Aug 6 'cuz she starts back to work a couple of weeks earlier than I do. I'll have her fill me in on the ports and will post or have her post a trip report.

DH & I spent a week in PV a few years ago, so we may not even get off the ship there. I remember seeing the natives washing their laundry in the stream with the cows standing nearby - eeeewwww!!!
I much prefer Cancun than the rest of Mexico, since there was no poverty when we were there. I was in Mexico City for 2 weeks when I was 10, what I remember most was listening to the VW Bug horns blasting 24/7 and spending most of my days at the country club. My parents sent me there to stay with a family. It's hard to imagine sending my DD on a plane to a foreign country with no adult supervision - my, how times have changed ::yes:: .
 
Thanks for the info jilljill. After reading your post, maybe the Rainforest on Magic will be enough for me!! We talked to fellow cruisers on the Monarch last month and they described Mazatlan as Tijuana w/a beach! Though I would like my DD to see other ports besides what we experienced in Ensenada, she may just want the view from the top deck!
Which reminds me, we will be on deck 5 - #5022 a secret porthole room!! We are excited - my DD can't wait and watching the DCL dvd made her anxious to go!!

Hmmmm..........I'm going to really have to start researching ports. We've not been down the coast. Hopefully, we can find something to do. I love being on the ship on sea days, but if we're in port, I'd maybe think I was missing something important. Maybe not!

Shall we do a birthday countdown??

Thanks Stace for the calorie-free cake :teeth: . And Jenny I hope to enjoy my b'day as much as I can for having to go into work this afternoon. I just thought, I haven't been to work in 2 weeks - it's gonna be hard to go in there and have to be nice to people.

If my memory serves me correctly, the Terminator movies were filmed at PV and locations nearby. It is a pretty area, but then we were staying at the Marriott near the marina.
 
I was thinking about the stops that we make, and how most of Mexico isn't all that clean or gorgeous......what jilljill said made me realize...we've been to a lot of islands and unless you're at a nice hotel, in most places, you won't find pretty beaches and cute little restaurants.
I had heard people talk about vacationing in Jamaica a lot, and I thought it must be really pretty. Well, it is very green, and each resort has beautiful grounds and beaches, but if you aren't staying on one of those properties and drive around, it's a pretty sorry place. And so are almost all of the places we've been to.
I'm guessing that there will be some nice places to visit around the port, but I doubt if we'd want to venture much further.
Did that make sense???

For us it will be my DH, myself, and our DD who will be 13 at cruise time (going into high school).

Can you go to brunch more than once with two ressies? I want to go with my husband one time, but if you can go twice I'd love to do the brunch. With the REAS package, do you get to do brunch and a dinner there?

I am glad you guys know a bit about these ports, I have no idea. I do know what you mean about Jamaica and other ports where there is poverty.

Thanks for the b'day wishes everyone. I went to work and it wasn't too bad, not too busy so I didn't have to be too nice. Spreadin' the magic can take a lot out of a person at times.
My parents ended up taking us to Don Pablos's after I got off work. No 'Taco Smell' for this b'day gal :earseek: :teeth: . I think I may bake a cake tonight just to get a couple more things out of the cupboard - less to move.

With the REAS package only dinner is included, not brunch. I think you can go twice, but I'm not sure. I'm really looking forward to Afternoon Tea one day. Maybe we can do Tea as the ladies only thing and that way the DH's can do brunch.
 
Are the young girls allowed to go to tea? Or am I thinking of the tea party at the Grand Floridian?

I am about 98% positive that you can do the brunch and a dinner at Palo. In fact, I guess if you wanted to pay for it, you could probably eat at Palo every night. I think DCL would gladly take your money for it.

jilljill is making fun of me......my ever so loving husband took me to Taco Bell for my birthday last March. I didn't feel like getting all dressed up anyway. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Once again, going to bed early. I feel like I'm finally getting my internal clock back on track, after travelling so much this year.

Stacey you're going to have to face the fact that DD will need to be separated from your hip on the cruise. She can't go to tea either - but you 2 can do Tea with Wendy if that is still being offered. It's very cute and in Studio Sea. Besides, they serve chocolate chip cookes how bad can that be?!?

BTW, I wasn't making fun of you , I was making fun of your DH :teeth: . Good thing he doesn't read the boards or I may be in big trouble with him :eek: . But he will love me when he meets me :yo-yo: .
 
I think I'll not talk about or think about excursions for awhile.

My DD is a dancer, singer and tennis player. She has also been in musical theater. Her first love though is art and she plans to attend CalArts. It is the art institute founded by Walt. Her goal is to be an artist one day and of course, work for Disney in some capacity! I think I read in a thread that Jordan is into dance? My DD is Brynée (Brin - ay) and she is very social. It sounds like there will be many kids her age on this cruise...I hope they are as addicted to Disney as she is!!
 
Such pretty names, Jordan and Brynee! My DD is Jessica, plain and old-fashioned I guess. She is in to theater too, she does a youth theater play every summer. This past summer was Cinderella with a 1980's theme.

I never seem to get to go out for my birthday because it is January 13th. It is often cold, snowy, icy or stormy. Plus my DH says it is too close to Christmas for him, he likes to get me something big for both (this year I got a nice sapphire ring). He does cook though so I usually get a fancy gourmet dinner at home, and usually roses. I can't complain.

Ladies, you seem to have talented daughters. Mine, Alexa who will be 11 on the cruise, likes to travel. She's like her mom and that we don't have any real talent, unless you count always finding a man to talk to or causing trouble a talent :eek: :teeth: .
 
Cathy - How old is Jessica? And Jilljill, if Alexa likes Disney half as much as Brynee, they will have a lot to talk about! And, Alexa can give her cruise tips!!
Do you allow your girls to go on Xanga...it is a website much like a running journal? Brynee is on there and I'll find out her exact screenname if your girls use that site too.

I think Brynee and my other DD Traci have all the talent in the family. As for me, I didn't even read a book this summer but I did do a lot of internet research for our first cruise! I am quickly becoming addicted to these boards!! This thread is great!!
