August 5th 2012, Magic- NY to Canada

Maybe I'm too dumb, but I can't imagine why your sister would want to waste $550 on a horrible train trip. The train is only an hour. Spend your time walking around St. John. There is supposed to be a lovely welcome tent. Nice shopping. I'm sorry if you can't find a different excursion, but I'd think that No excursion is better than a lousy one. There may be last minute openings for excursions available on the ship, but _I_ would cancel and do nothing rather than do that one. . .

Hello all! :wave2: I know I am super late to the party but I will be on this cruise with my sister, her husband, my niece (14) and nephew (12). We're cramming ourselves into a Deluxe Family room w/ verandah. They have cruised DCL a bunch of times but this is my first DCL. I am taking a break from 22 straight years of WDW and DLR trips. My only previous cruise experience was on a RCL cruise last August that departed as Hurricane Irene hit. Then we hit another hurricane on the way to Bermuda. I am looking forward to a cruise sans-hurricanes and less than 40 foot waves.

We are booked for Palo the first night (not our first choice at all but apparently reservations for 3 people are hard to come by) and then we've got spa stuff scheduled on day 2. In Halifax we are doing the Learn the Ropes/Maritime Museum/Pink bus HOHO excursion. Hopefully the Learn the Ropes activity will keep the kids entertained so us adults can actually enjoy the museum. In St. John we are doing the doomed Railway tour/Pink bus HOHO. I discussed cancelling the not-so-scenic Railway thing with my sister but we couldn't come up with anything better to book. I really wanted to take the speedboat tour but my nephew isn't 13 yet. Oh well. At least we are prepared to be underwhelmed and we can just focus our attention on the HOHO bus portion of our afternoon.

I'm sorry that I missed out on the FE exchange but I am still decorating our door. I've spent the last two nights crafting door decor so if you happen to find yourself on Deck 8 look for the super glittery door proclaiming us the Magic Maniacs. My sister had suggested calling us "5 Idiots Sharing 300 sq ft" but I figured it was a good idea to go with something more upbeat. :cool2:

There are a few of us Dis-ers on deck 8. Looking forward to meeting you! Dis-meet is at 3 pm in the lounge prior to safety drill.

Getting ready to leave work and I won't be on here again before we leave for the port Sunday morning.

Safe travels to those who are still on their way to New York.

Looking foward to meeting everyone onboard!

Even if your a temp Philly girl. We'll see you early on Sunday! Safe travels, all!

I don't quite understand it either, but since our Hop On Hop Off passes are included with the railway I guess her theory is to just suck it up for the hour on the train and then do the bus. I would much prefer to just cancel the whole thing and rebook a HOHO bus trip by itself. The other night we looked at the available excursions and many are still open. It's just that there was nothing we wanted to do..or could do because of the kids. My sister does a lot of things that don't make sense to me. I just nod and smile. :confused3

I am going to try to escape to the meet at 3p but no guarantees. My family is a bit odd about the whole "meeting invisible friends from the internet" thing. Sometimes the humor me and I can wander off, other times I am met with a bit more resistance. Never can tell which way it is going to go. ;)

On a completely unrelated note, does anyone know who the cruise director is for this sailing?

Can't wait. Getting the suitcases ready. Hope to see everyone at 3pm.
We decided not to book any tours. I looked up a lot of stuff online at Halifax and St. John's visitor centers. There are a lot of things to do within walking distance. I checked out the museums' web sites and they only charge a few dollars and have a family rate. So since Disney feels that my 4year old isn't old enough to do the "learn the ropes" activity we will do it on our own.

We just finished packing (just started today. I know bad diser I am) we Re going to New Jersery tomorrow then taking the ferry over on Sunday. We are super excited. This first trip that we are not taking our daughter. So it feels real strange not getting her ready, but she is super excited to be spending the week with a family friend and their family. Looking forward to seeing everyone not the magical ship.

Hi Joy, no worry I was watching the reports on that tour and was going to cancel. Where is the meet going to gather at 3pm? Thanks Michelle

wow...I didn't receive that email but I guess I will pack more fleece than originally planned.

When are folks planning to arrive at the Port on Sunday? We don't have an embarkation time...when I did the online checkin it said we can board at any time because we are platinum (this is our first cruise as platinum) but that doesn't give me any idea of when to actually arrive at the Port.

Hi Lynda, I was thinking if anyone has a room change that is on the FE list they should note it on your door so everyone can check your door before they hand out the gifts. What do you think? Thanks Michelle

Mr. & Mrs. Mouse,

We are all meeting at the Promenade Lounge at 3:00 pm...

See ya there

Im sitting on the beach in Monmouth Beach NJ. It is sunny with clear blue skies and 90 degrees. I can clearly see the NYC skyline. Lets hope the weather forecasts are wrong for tomorrow as they were way off today!

That is fine with me...

We have enjoyed a hot and humid day here in NYC today. Staying at Hotel Chandler and it is lovely!

See everyone tomorrow!

Mr. & Mrs. Mouse,

I was just looking at your avatar and noticed your address. I see your not very far from my niece's place. She lives in East Longmeadow, MA.

See you in 24 hours and 15 minutes.

I thank you for your reply. I didn't realize it was a "combo" tour. Good luck to you! (And of course, you certainly didn't owe me an explanation, but I do appreciate understanding the logic behind it. - I may not agree, but I can now recognize the thought process.)

You are very sweet - see you soon!

So excited! I am packing up my car to head to my sister's house for the night. I have no idea what time we are leaving in the morning but I can't believe the cruise is tomorrow! We booked this cruise the day it became available so it feels like we have been waiting for years for it to finally get here! :cheer2:

Oh no problem. I am still not 100% on board with her theory but at this point I don't think there is much we can do about it. At least we are going into the railway thingy with low expectations so we won't be disappointed. If it is really terrible, then we will just fight for a refund. My sister is pretty good with that sort of thing. She turned 1 dreadful trip to Mexico using a DVC--->RCI transfer into a great Mexico trip and a 3 night DCL cruise a few years ago. :confused3

It has been very hot in NYC the past 3 days. Looking forward to swimming in the pool when we get on board. They are predicting some storms for Sunday PM. Hope it doesn't spoil the sail-away party.

Can't wait to get on the boat waiting and waiting anticipation to get on is killing me
