August 28, 2004 "LOST AT SEA" Cruise

WELCOME trinibjill! Another Jersey town represented. There are quite a few of us. Does your grandaughter also live in Florence? We brother counseled in an elementary school there. She might know him.

Glad you are onboard.

Darlene

Not sure where Jason and Travis are. Hopefully they evacuated if they are in the evacuation zones. We are in a house so no evacuation needed for us but all mobile homes and people directly on the coast have to be evacuated. We are expecting winds of about 70-120 mph. Gusts up to 150 mph. We are buttoning down and getting ready. Last warning puts it going right over us.

Send some Pixie Dust our way and Jason and Travis's way for a safe day tomorrow:(

I think the Mexicali/Tropicali attire will still work. This is so new that it's going to take some time before word spreads about the change.

Plus, what the heck do pirates wear anyway???

That's a good question, Jason. I actually have a pair of black capris that are scalloped on the hem and my co-workers call them my "Pirate Pants". Wait until I tell them that I will be right in style for Pirate night. They already think I'm crazy so it can't hurt! They're a bunch of Brats.

I'm thinking a bandana on the head and a peasant blouse and an eye patch would work. Think that is a little over the top?

Glad to see my fellow Floridians. As I posted You guys also posted so i'm glad to see you guys are prepared as well.

To all our friends in Florida: stay safe. Thanks for the report Jason. I mentioned on another thread that my sons are not too far from you. Our prayers are for personal and property protection from the storm. Carolyn, glad to hear that you are buttoned down. Can't imagine winds that strong. Hope they pass over quickly and move on out of there before any damage can occur.

I'm prepared, I got a fresh bottle of Scotch tonight. :teeth: Anyway, no evacuations for us, we're not in a zone. I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings. Could be quite a storm. It looks like it's making the turn to the north like they predicted. The national weather service official track http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT03/refresh/AL0304W+GIF/130318W.gif puts it right at the mouth of Tampa Bay sometime tomorrow. Of course we know that could change, but surprisingly the forcast hasn't shifted a huge amount though.

Hi all! :wave2: Welcome Trinibjill! I too have a DD who is 10...soon to be 11. I don't think she plans to be with us at all on the Cruise! Except to go to the pool, which she would live in if she could!LOL! Jason & Travis: Batten down those hatches! My DH's Aunt lives in Clearwater & we know how bad the storms can get for all of you! I would only be too happy to attend your Hurricane Party! Cheers!:drinking: :drinking1 I need no excuse to attend a party. But seriously, stay dry & stay safe, and Travis...enjoy your day off! Kathy :wave2:

Hi Carolyn!

Glad to hear you guys are not in an evac. zone and have everything prepared for the storm. We're in North Clearwater. Basically, we're not too far from where the Courtney Campbell Causeway hits land on the Pinellas side.

We're also not located in an evacuation zone and we'll be here thoughout the length of the storm. Although, I think if I was in an evac. zone I would have left long ago! :)

Talk to you soon and take care.

To all--

Thanks a bunch for all of your well wishes! We do appreciate them! :)

Jason & Travis... I hope that you both continue to stay safe and enjoy that hurricane party.

Trinibill... we are your neighbors.. We live in Burlington Township, NJ .. we have a 9 year old DD and a 6 Year old DS

One more week for me... I am having a "pool party" today for a bunch of people I work with.. unfortunately mother nature doesnt look like she is gonna cooperate so more than likely I will have an indoor party.. too late to cancel... I spent a fortune on food and booze.

Two weeks to go!!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

So who is the first of us to leave for vacation?? I know some of you are leaving a week before the cruise, to start your vacations. :sunny:

It's raining all the way up here in Massachusetts. I think it's a good day to get the suitcases out and start packing!!! ::yes::

My DH really needs a vacation, badly! LOL

Poor guy........ remember he fell down the family room stairs last week? Well yesterday he dropped his travel mug full of coffee as he was getting into his truck yesterday morning. And, just now, before he even got out of the house, he walked past the kitchen table and must've brushed against one of his travel mugs full of coffee and knocked it on the floor, making a HUGE LAKE of hot coffee, splashing on his pants and shoe. LOL I'm glad it's nothing more serious than spilled coffee, but he really needs to get away. LOL

He is NOT usually like this, I know he's had a lot of stress at work. I hope he makes it another 2 weeks till the cruise!!
:scared: (Guess who got the "fun" of cleaning up the spilled coffee???? LOL)

Doreen - Not only are our DSs both 11, I believe our DDs are close in age too (mine 14). I'm hoping she'll spend time at the Stack, but I'm not so sure. She does love movies though and has purposely not seen the latest films so that she can watch them onboard.

To all our Fl. friends - Please stay safe and sound!!

-Mary Rose

Terry - I leave next saturday the 21st @ 7AM for vacation so I may be one of if not the first to leave.

Who's next???

Hi everyone!

Well we are expecting Charley here in the next few hours...rain is beginning and some wind but nothing too bad yet! Hopefully will all be ok. Our house is in the surge zone but no evacuation here either. The canal across the street is direct access to the Caloosahatchee River so we are a little worried about water. It took FOREVER to take down the backyard toys (trampoline, swingset, etc) and supplies at Walmart, Publix etc were hard to find but we have plenty of stuff and I, being the candle nut I am, have plenty of candles to light the house! The scents in here should be interesting with all of my Partylite boxes! Our area (Ft. Myers/Cape Coral) has been going nuts - most houses are boarded up. They are still saying 80mph wind gusts for us and the eye passing by us at around 2pm where it will have been increased to category 3. Should be an interesting ride!

Good Luck all fellow Floridians in Charleys path! Hopefully will be able to talk to you all soon!

Melanie

We leave Tuesday morning, the 23th at 3 am.

trinibjill - my daughter, Katie, is also 10. My younger son is 12 and he'll be in that same group. His name is Kyle.

There'll be a lot of Dis kids in that age group.

Our best wishes go to everyone in Florida. I have a brother in law in the Keys and one in the panhandle. We plan to give them a call tomorrow. The other one in Ft. Lauderdale should be out of the storm path.

Our prayers are with everyone in Florida. I hope the weather men are wrong and it passes you by and goes out to sea.

Let us know how you are!

Lyn

Just want to say again that I hope EVERYONE stays safe through these storms. DIS friends, please check in during the day, if you can!!

**************************************************

PRE-CRUISE PARTY: Anyone having one? I just sent out "evites" (www.evites.com) to DH and DSs. They had a "Bon Voyage" theme that I used. I'm going to have a pre-cruise party for our family on the Sunday night before the cruise. That's when we'll all sit down together and fill out the documents, and I plan on having party food, and I'm going to make up some DCL trivia questions, and give out prizes. LOL I'll see who's been paying attention to all of my cruise chatter for the past year! LOL I'll probably get some Disney Dollars, some of those light-up glo necklaces, and anything else that might appeal to teenaged boys, as the prizes. I'm going to ask trivia questions such as "How many pools are on the Magic?", "What's the name of the tropical theme restaurant?" "What's the left side of a ship called?" etc. Any other ideas for the party that you can think of?? :sunny:

First off...Well wishes to all our Florida friends. Sounds like you all are prepared. True Floridians, no panic, just getting the necessities, wine, scotch, candles. LOL But in reality, what else can you do. Our friend just moved to Cape Coral, I wonder how she is doing. What is Cape Coral expecting?

Welcome to our new DISer Trinibjill.

2 more weeks :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc One pinkbounce for each week.

Today is my kids last day of camp, wish me luck for the next 2 weeks until we cruise. I'm bored... will start at 4 PM today as soon as the bus drops them off.

I will check in later, all our Florida friends, if you have power, please post during the day to let us know what is happening first hand.

Good Luck
Joanna
