August 25...Crowds?

Since I have an annual pass I was thinking of adding a late summer trip. I have been to WDW Aug. 15th for a week and found the parks to be crowded. I always hear that the last week of August is empty. Anyone ever been this week? Please let me know, I really want to go but don't want to deal with really heavy crowds.

Also, does anyone know where I can find info about crowd trends, busiest times, etc...?

I was over at the MK around that time last year and it was still pretty crowded since some schools hadn't started yet. It's really hard to gauge the crowds from one day to the next since no one knows what the day will hold. I was at the MK last Thursday and it was pretty slow..but a friend of mine was there on Wednesday and said it was crowded. Try to go during the week if you can..that should help.

that's the date we fly down... last year we arrived on the 28th (i think)... we *LOVE* this time of year (as you can tell by my siggie! LOL!)... having only been a few times at other times of the year, i have to say we find the crowds very manageable, have no trouble getting ps's (got choice of dates/times for crt last year only a few weeks out), and also have never been refused our location requests at resorts...

we were there a few years ago but more like 3rd week of aug since my DD starts school around the 28 of aug and we got home just a few days before she went back.

The crowds were really pretty low at that time already whcih was great.

We were at AK and we were saying how much we were getting done and the CM asked what we all saw at AK and we had already hit all the biggies!


He said that alot of the schools in Fl head back early in Aug so we hit it at a good.

that's the week we normally go and the crowds are manageable and sometimes no waits on some rides. We love it...we can't go that week this year due to dh's job but at least we are still going

We were there in 2001 at that time and it was WONDERFUL so many schools are already back in session...we can't do that anymore because DD plays fall sports at HS. I would highly recommend that time!!

This thread has made me so happy!

We have never gone anytime but historically slower times, but DD starts Kindergarten this year, we need to go before our APs run out mid October, and I am not pulling her out of her first year of school so early in the year, so we did the very last week before school starts and am just hoping for the best.
We go Aug 26-Sept 4.

I have heard some northern schools even go back before Labor Day now. My niece and nephew live in eastern PA and go back the Wed before.
So it's all looking much better than I anticipated when I booked this trip. Yay!

We were there August 22nd-Sept 8th last year and it wasn't very crowded at all. We figured it was because of the hurricanes but after reading the other messages maybe it's just a good time to visit. The day before they closed WDW for Hurricane Frances we were able to walk on every ride at the Magic Kingdom. There weren't lines for anything. Hopefully, you won't have large crowds when you visit.

We went during this time period a few years ago (before the 9/11 slump in tourism) and found the crowds reasonable. We did take advantage of fastpass and were sure to get to the parks for opening. It was quite hot and humid, and it seemed to rain for an hour or two every afternoon, but I would certainly say that it is a very good time of year to go - if you have to go in the summer I'll bet that the end of Aug. is the best time frame in the summer months!

We are going Aug 19-26.

I do believe most southern schools are back in session and some NE schools go back that last week in August. We do not, but my newphews do and they are coming with us.

We were there the last week of August 2004. While the crowds were larger than what we have experienced in October and early December, they were still managable.

Some rides will have long lines but if you plan ahead and maximize FastPass, you should not have to wait very long for anything. The longest we waited was about 20 minutes.
