Not good, always look forward to Bank hols, End of May is good with 2 days off, always take Mon & Tues We usually fly across to Holland for the weekend but flight prices and hotels are too expensive this year, fuel tax and poor exchange for Euro not helping.

Our confirmation papers came in today's mail .

Thank you all for the warm welcome. When I opened the envelope from DCL today I almost cried. Why is this so emotional? Is it just because it's our first ever cruise and we're doing it right? Or do people feel this way every time they go? It reminds me a bit of the first time we took DD#1 to WDW and saw it all through her 4 year old eyes.

I didn't have time to read my Passporter today, and the kids are home from school, so that joy will have to wait until tomorrow.

Wait until you see the ship infront of you on the 22nd August next year. Thats an even better feeling than recieving your confirmation.
Can't wait to get back on The Magic. It was nice on The Wonder last month but you can't beat getting on for 7 nights.

St. Somewhere usually handles our posting, but I need to chime in on the tux thing. I went to rent tuxes for DS and I for the last cruise locally. The shop wanted almost $400 by the time we were done, for the two of us. My last tux rental for a cruise was $99 for 10 days. Needless to say, I dug out the suit and ran with that. Also, when I got on the ship I went into the shop for cakes and tuxes to get a cake for DD birthday. The lady behind the counter was VERY relieved to see that I came in for a cake, not a tux. Evidently, everyone who boards the ship and wants a tux is between 5'9" and 6'1" and has a triathlete's body.

Don't get me wrong, I like the formal night thing. Ladies cannot resist a man in a tux. I have even thought about calling on my McCarty roots and getting a full formal kilt (cost prohibitive). I saw a Scot in full formal on Holland America and it was very impressive. Dressing up is fun, but at the cost of an excursion for 4, I will likely be in the old suit again.

Now a fun tie like Wayne... now your're talkin'.

Regarding the cruise, I've convinced dh that he'll wear a tux on formal night (he was really against any type of dressing up and eating in the dining rooms at set times) - I love the idea of renting it from disney and not having to pack it! I really wish they rented for small boys (ds6). I also wasn't really into dressing up and doing diningrooms, but the more I read trip reports and research, I'm now excited to 'play along' w/ everyone else and do all the dressing up things. I think the kids will really enjoy that part of it! I was also explaining to dh about the fish extenders, and he was just laughing and rolling his eyes. He'll be sorry when I don't let him have any 'gifts' because he just thinks it's all so silly!

JUst got back from the orthodonist. DS is going to need braces right away. He has another appointment next week. DD has to go back to dentist and have 4 front teeth pulled to make room for the other ones. She has to go back in 3 months to be reevaluated.


Tux- I was a little shocked when Erik called me from the tux shop and told me the cost $$$$$

I found Matt an suit on clearance at Sears for $35. Even if I had to pay full price It would have been cheaper than renting.

I have to admit that dressing up does make a nice family portrait.
I will have Dh upload. Since I don't know how.

I can't speak as to why you were so emotional, but I have been very emotional as well. I have dreamed of a Disney Cruise since my 14 year old DD was three or four, and that dream is finally coming true!

Speaking of formal night, I absolutely plan to dress up. I almost never get to, and enjoy the rare opportunity to do so. Heck, I am the only guy I have ever known who knows how to tie a bowtie! Unfortunately, I don't expect my DW will be anywhere near as into it as I am. Maybe we'll be at the same table - then, if our spouses don't dress up, we can put them at the opposite side of the table!

BlueMarlin- a kilt...ooooooohhhhhh. Reminds me of a joke...no...this is a family show My DBro is thinking about bringing a kilt, being actually Scottish He wore a black one to our brothers wedding a couple of years ago and looked great.He has the legs for a kilt. Might be a hit with the laydeess too DH is as English as Big Ben, so any links with Scottish roots would be 'remote' at best...can you be scottish through marriage . And anyway, he doesnt have the legs. So i will just pack his DJ, which, incidently didnt cost anywhere near $400. Did the assistant in the hire shop have a mask on? and a gun? it sounds like daylight robbery to me Its good to know that some of you guys will be formal on formal night. we love an excuse to dress up, and rarely get the chance! BTW..where are all the hunks between 5'9 and 6'1 with the bodies of triatheletes....i did laugh...there werent too many of them our our last cruise (except my DH ofcouse...lol)

stsomewhere- our eldest has braces...we were at the orthodontist yesterday too She has fixed on the bottom and a removable appliance on the top, but is having her fixed brace on the top next month! Our other DDs teeth are perfect, thank God, Orthodontics, except in really extream cases, isnt covered by the NHS, and a properly qualified Paediatric Orthodontist doesnt come cheap, and they are as rare as hens teeth in England, so come at a premium! I am sure it will be worth it though She will probably be brace free by the time we cruise

good luck to her! My dd had a baby tooth pulled, and it was nothing, but it was only 1. I can't imagine 4! I hope she does well!

The office has talked to me about giving her nitro? Marina doen't want it. The dentist called and said they might want to take out the top 2 teeth, also. I am assuming that her mouth is going to be very sore and she will be off school the whole day.

Yuck. I had to have four wisdom teeth pulled and that was horrible.

We have coverage on the braces, but get this... $1000 Lifetime max. That is almost a slap in the face. That is barely 1/4 of our expected tally.

Now back to kilts, reminds me of a song: "Oh, lad I don't know where you've been, but I see you won first prize."

Perhaps you can be Scottish by mariage. I am told I am Irish by trechery. We believe we may be Huguenot, and became Irish to avoid death. In any case, we moved over here about 300 years ago. Somewhere in there was a McCarthy, so it is a long stretch at best for me. I have a better claim to wearing MacLaren with my ties to Gilwell.

lovely photo...although BlueMarlin, you could just have a bath towel on for all we can see.
I take a similar approach to photos...i used to hide behind my girls.....but with one already taller than me and one not a kick in the bakookie behind...they will be hiding behind me...except they dont hide...(note to self...dont breed with a man of 6'4 when you are 5'4 )

As for tartans...there is a shop in Edinburgh that will find you a family tartan even if the closest you have ever got to the celts is once eating a piece of shortbread. the Gilwell tartan sound good... i am partial to plain (authentic) kilts myself...they are the ones you see more often actually being wore around the streets (although not in ALL streets ) My brother nails his colours in his football shirts...and his tatoos...God help us! Cant remember the last time he stepped in a church though

Teeth- Juli had 4 permenant teeth removed before she started her orthodontic work. it was pretty rough...she had nitrous oxide and i would recommend it for permanant teeth..She wasnt sure what was going on at the time, but was pretty sore afterwards... baby teeth come out pretty easily dont they?.
Incidently, her orthodontic work costs about the same as yours. Juli was entitled to NHS treatment, but the waiting list was 2-3 years. so we bit the bullet and went private. We could have gone on holiday instead
I get cross with her when she doesnt wear her gumshield when playing Hockey...i will be so angry if, after £3000 worth of orthodontic work ( not to mention the travelling costs to actually get to the orthodontist!!) she has her teeth knocked out playing Hockey.

both my kids, i've always been told, will have to have braces... we have no dental coverage at all (self employed). they're 6 and 8, so we have a couple of years before we start. that'll be a couple of disney trips worth of metal in their mouths!
