August 22nd 2009 Western Carribbean Anyone?

Hey Terri!

FH (Colin) and I are getting married near Philly (which is where we live) on August 7. We'll be traveling with friends (our bridal party and some other close buddies) on a trip to Vermont we take every summer beginning the day after our wedding so the party can continue :) After that, we'll be departing of the 19th for our honeymoon - 3 nights/2 days in WDW, followed by the August 22 cruise! We're pretty excited. Colin and I have been together for about 6 1/2 years and have lived together for about the past 3 1/2. We're obviously getting really excited about the wedding and are ready to take the next step. We're also glad that Disney gets to be a part of the journey!

As for dinner on Thursday night...we're limited to places that would accept 1 dining plan table service credit and would hopefully have a more romantic atmosphere, to the BBQ might not be quite right ;) Really where we need advice is Wednesday night, when we're limited to a dining plan counter service option. We're looking for something a little more appetizing than the hot dogs at Casey's, although those aren't bad! (FYI...when I've traveled to WDW with my family, we ALWAYS sit down outside Casey's to watch the parade while eating a late lunch!)

Aurora's Mommy (who must live very close to me...where are you located?), we'll be staying at the All-Star Sports. Again...goal was to add as much fun as we can for little cost. Surely staying elsewhere might be more romantic...but we're looking just just a comfy place to sleep! FH picked out which value resort he wanted to stay at.

That sounds like so much fun!! Happy Wedding!! My niece gets married the next weekend. And, I'm close to Philly too, but over the bridge in So. Jersey.
Have fun with all of your planning. I bet it's kicking into high gear about now!!

Any chance your niece went to Villanova? I have a friend getting married there next weekend...we met while we were students there :) Either way, many congratulations to her!

The planning is definitely picking up! Best part: my gown came in two Saturdays ago....it was so much fun to wear MY dress!

Nope. She goes to Rutgers. But my brother went to Villanova and my 11 yr old has planned on going there (and rooming with his best friend) since kindergarten!

How fun to get your dress! After so many month of not having to much wedding things to do, now the fun really starts!! Enjoy it ~ it goes too fast. Much like a cruise ~ takes forever to get here, then it flies by!!

Too funny! I grew up right near Rutgers and my brother and sister-in-law are alumni.

....Anyone want to see the dress?! (I'm a little obsessed.)

Naaah...he stays as far away from the DIS Boards as he can! :P

He really doesn't want to see it, so he's been good about avoiding opportunities all on his own :)

Here are two good shots from when I first tried the sample gown on in September:

Wow, Heather - you and that dress make a beautiful combination!

Suddenly I have a strange desire to blow almost two decades worth of dust off my wedding album and flip through it...

Oh my gosh, you look so beautiful!! That gown is gorgeous! Your fiancee is going to be blown away!! How exciting!!!

Terri

I just looked online. Since Disney made their special offer for castaway club members the lower categories have completely sold out. I did a search (2a,1c) and found they are only selling categories 4-7. There are several rooms available to choose in cat 7, only two to choose in cat 6.

I was hoping for a cruise at 80% capacity so there would be less crowding, but I guess Disney is bucking the economy...

MackieMouse,
We’re going to have to agree w/ Terri – Your fiancé will be blown away!

Sounds like you’ve got a great plan – I’ve always heard that taking a little break b/w the honeymoon & the wedding is one of the smartest things that you can do. (or maybe that just my rationalization to explain our 3 year break b/w the wedding & honeymoon :rolleyes1)

First of all, gorgeous dress! It is kind of hard to tell in the picture, but the lace overlay looks white, but underneath is it ivory, or maybe pink? It amazes me how different dresses are from when I got married almost 20 (gasp) years ago. I had my dress preserved, but now I wonder why. It practically screams the 80s!

We are in Bucks Co, Newtown to be exact (and since no one seems to know Newtown, but always asks, "is that near Yardley", yes it is near Yardley). I did, however go to Cabrini, and my sister lives in Radnor, so I am familiar with that side of Philly.

We stayed at the Pop Century last year. I wasn't exactly thrilled (once you have stayed at the Poly, it's hard to go back), but I have to say it was the best food court of any Disney resort we had stayed at.

The only counter service I have had at MK is Cosmic Rays (which I don't like, but we always seem to be near at lunch time) and Caseys, but have read nice things about the CS in Fantasy World (Pinnochio something) and Columbia House.

Aurora's mom......yup, we were together on that Cruisin Castaways cruise. That was a cruise where we had a better time off the ship than on. It was strange - DCL had done some cutbacks at that time and our servers were assigned too many tables (we had officers sitting near us and they always got served first). It still was a fabulous cruise - cruise director Andy will always be our favorite DCL CD.

It was a fabulous cruise, but it was our first ever, so I had nothing to compare it to! If the service was less than normal, we didn't know it. We are disappointed not to be going to Castaway Cay twice again, because both stops were the highlights or our last trip.

Now that you mention cutbacks, I've heard that Disney has been doing some layoffs (although no indication that it was on the cruises). As trimix points out, it is going to be a pretty full cruise (darn it, we were only able to book Cat 10, and I really want to upgrade to Cat 9). Hope the service doesn't suffer.

The dress is ivory lace over champagne-colored satin. It looks a little pink in the photos because of the decor of the bridal salon, I think....in person it's definitely not pink! ;)

I'm sure in 20 years styles will have changes again and I'll find it outrageous that I wore a strapless wedding gown. That said...strapless gowns are pretty much ALL that the bridal shops are selling now.

I'm not too familiar with Yardley/Newtown, except that I have a friend who works as a hairdresser there :) Looking forward to seeing you on the cruise!

The wedding dress is gorgeous......:goodvibes

We'll be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on this cruise. And yes, my wedding dress SCREAMS 1980's (think big shoulders). Totally out of style now. :rotfl: Nobody wore strapless gowns then.

I'm a Rutgers grad myself (though I went to Douglass so I think of myself more of a Douglass grad).

I, too, had a gap between my wedding and the honeymoon. I think it makes things less pressured.

:banana::banana:I received my passport in the mail today!!:banana::banana:

Can you believe it only took two weeks? :donald:

That is amazing!! It's always a worry with the passport people, so I am sure a huge relief!!

Mine was late and we were leaving on a cruise in a couple of days, so my DH called to inquire about it. He alleges he asked them what IF it were lost. Wonderful cruise, no problem, but when I tried to get back in the country I was detained!! An hour in immigration trying to get cleared by the State Department! As you can imagine, I was seated among my peers~ one who had to go through immigration every time because she is on PAROLE!!! :scared1:

It's all good!! Congratulations again!

Terri

You're giving me hope, Donald! FH has his passport all ready to go because he took a trip abroad about 5 years ago. I, on the other hand, need a new one, as I was only 15 the last time I had to use it. So this weekend, while I'm home for Passover/Easter, I need to get my birth certificate and my old passport from my parents' house. Fingers crossed that I can get the application in painlessly at the post office next week. (The State department says I can do it there...)

Hi All! I am wondering what anyone knows about the Oceaneer Lab for are older children. Apparently the Magic only takes children up to 10. Where will our boys go to hange out, will they have a hang out place? I know we had some discussion about this earlier, but I can't quite recall.

The will hang out in Ocean QUest and will be able to come and go by themselves. They do not need to sign in and out. It is similiar to the Loft/Stack but for younger kids.

Matt is very excited about it. He did not like being in the Lab because he felt like he was treating like a little kid.
