August 2020 Reservations-still going?

I'm just about to go in and cancel our Aug 1-8 trip right now. We originally were going with a larger group, and they all backed out earlier in the month. My immediate family was still going to go, but we were really close to cancelling because of all the restrictions. The recent numbers coming out of FL, combined with the mandatory quarantine upon return (which means my kids would miss the last couple weeks of summer camp), and our experience wearing masks during the heat wave we just had (which would be nothing compared to Orlando in August) tipped us to cancelling. Disappointed, but we already have a trip in February booked, and are planning on redoing our August trip next year as well.

well i guess i'll book dining today. even thought idk why im sure we are probably not going. many people going with the nj/ny quarantine are working from home so they don't mind returning to a quarantine but dh has to go into work so he wouldn't be able to do the quarantine. also, i don't get how no one seems to be concerned about quarantine into fl and just go into the parks anyway from nj/ny/ct areas. i guess they just ignore it...i can't do that, i follow rules i guess....

Well, RI just re-instituted a 14 day quarantine when travelling from states that have high positive rates (over 5% positive) and that list includes Florida. If that is still in effect by mid august we'll have to cancel our end of August trip. Kids go back to school a few days after we return, and having to have them self-quarantine would be problematic. That is unless they start the school year with distance learning again in which self-quarantining doesn't matter.

We are still hanging by a thread. I made my August dining reservations this morning. I can handle the 14 day quarantine return to NY, but I can't do the going to Florida 14 day quarantine. I've got about 2 more weeks to wait and see what happens.

Dumb question but it's not clear that the travel bans apply to residents going somewhere and coming back. It's not written in a way that clearly says that for my state. I'm waiting for my state to put up a Florida travel ban. It's coming. We are also looking into seeing if my husband can work from home for two weeks to "quarantine" if there is a travel ban. Our state currently allows people from out of state to get tested up to 72 hours before coming. Kind of a silly rule but my husband could likely get tested if necessary too. Maybe I'm naive but I truly think Disney is as safe as anywnere could be because of the way they have presented this plan. I don't feel like it counts as travel to a hot zone especially if we drive. It's frustrating. We put so much into this trip.

In RI, it applies to residents returning from trips as well. We can also take a test when we return and if it comes back negative we wouldn't need to quarantine.

I posted in another thread that we were still going, but with the NJ and FL quarantine restrictions, we finally gave up. We held out hope for a long time, but, in the end, decided that there were too many variables. We are discussing a long weekend trip to Universal in November, but that might be our only time in the area for 2020. I'm sure a lot will change between now and August, but we already contacted the travel agent to cancel.

Didn't get much sleep last night, got up early this morning to make ADRs for 1st week in August. Flights have been rescheduled, resort dates moved, park reservations made. Ready for a trip from CT that may have to be cancelled if the FLA quarantine isn't lifted by then.:crazy2:

At this point it seems ridiculous that NY/NJ/CT are on a quarantine list for Florida when our cases have been dropping for weeks. Are people seriously just going to FL and ignoring the two week quarantine? I live in a county in NJ that had low cases and my town has had multiple days with no new cases. I feel like I'm much less of risk of infecting someone in Florida, than a person in Florida is at infecting me at this point.

My final payment date is July 29th for our August 29th trip (I thought it was supposed to be 2 weeks out for trips during this time frame but mine never updated). I'm worried we won't have confirmation that our states are removed from the quarantine list prior to final payment date.

Just cancelled... reward does not outweigh the risk. Hope to go down next year. Why pay full price for a water down experience. Was supposed to stay at Contemporary and the following week at Broadwalk.

I thought the Florida quarantine order for those coming from NJ/NY/CT was set to expire on July 7th. I suppose Desantis could renew it though. We should have more clarity then.

@Craig Larson , It sounded like Gina might set up rapid testing right at the airport, which would be great! Fingers crossed!

That would be a good idea, and would help make a decision. I didn't hear that, but it makes sense. If that does happen, it will come down to schools.

If they are remote learning at the beginning of the year, we would be OK going since both my wife and I are able to be home with the grade school kids to get their work done. If the schools come up with a system for those who are positive/quarantining to do remote learning and it count towards school attendance, we will likely go. But if it is onsite learning and no excused absences/no online learning due to covid, then we will still have to reschedule because I couldn't risk them losing 2+ weeks of school.

I have a 9/1-8 DVC reservation at BWV and intend to cancel and bank my points barring a significant change. Can't believe our luck two years in a row - cancelled last year for the hurricane and this year for COVID-19.

We just made the heartbreaking decision to cancel our split stay at AKL and BW 8/26 - 9/5. We are in NYC and the 14 day quarantine on the way back in makes me nervous, especially with my kids and school - on the slim chance that they are actually back in classrooms, I don't want them to miss any days of school. Also Cuomo has stated that we will lose paid COVID sick leave by traveling to certain states, and FL is one of them. We rented DVC points so canceling is trickier and we may lose a good portion of what we paid, but really not much choice. Plus, one of the main reasons we were going at this time was the MNSSHP and that has been canceled - and I can't imagine August heat with a mask. I agree with nintz that the reward does not outweigh the risk for us - I think I would feel differently if we lived closer and were AP. Good luck to all of those trying to make the decisions for themselves and their families.

We are now leaning towards cancelling our 8/29 arrival due to the high cases in Florida. Sigh. I'm holding on for a few more weeks since there's no penalty for waiting. We don't have a mandatory quarantine (yet) coming or going.

I made my dining reservations this morning, and then I cancelled my August trip this afternoon :snooty:
The 14 day quarantines in Florida and then again in NY are making it impossible for us to go. Also, my son's special needs school is opening for the summer. That alone will increase our risks of getting sick. It's best for us to just stay put.
On the bright side, we are all book for 2021!

I read that you can get tested and if negative, you don't have to quarantine. However, I hope the restriction is lifted by the end of August, because that is why we are going then, so the kiddos don't miss school.
