August 2016 coming quickly....

I hope it's okay to hijack this thread. We're leaving tomorrow afternoon and hoping to be at the fort by late Friday afternoon. There's going to be 20 of us altogether in 4 sites. My DH and I along with our 5 kids and their families, including 8 grandchildren. We've asked for adjoining sites in the 900 loop, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that we get it. My DH and I will be in our MH, one of our sons has a Little Guy trailer and we'll have 2 trailers from Greenburg RV. We're also renting a few golf carts from tee time. Not really spending much time in the theme parks, just looking to enjoy the campground and the pool. Me and my DH will be there until 8/26, mostly everyone else is leaving on the 24th. If anyone is in the area, feel free to stop by.

If you are going to the fort in August, then it's not hijacking.... Love to hear about the adventures. :flower3:

We may be headed to Fort for TE for dinner Sunday night, so perhaps I'll see your group of sites! The Little Guy trailer should help to pick them out if you end up in 900 :)

My DW and I will be coming to FW for our first trip ever with our 3 children on the day you're leaving. I read about Tee Time golf cart rentals on another forum and didn't know that Disney still allowed outside rental companies to drop off their carts on the property. We'd like to rent a cart for the entire week we'll be there. But I don't think I'll pay the $65/day that the campground charges. How does Tee Time get your rental cart to you? What is their pricing?

Disney does NOT allow the outside rental companies to drop of the carts.

I actually just reserved a cart from Tee Time for my November trip. (They had none left for my current trip.) I dealt with Kelly and she was an absolute doll. Price is about half of what the Disney charges. They will meet you about a mile away with the Cart. You can either use their vehicle to bring the cart in and then take the truck back, or they can hitch the trailer with the cart up to your vehicle.

She told me that it typically will take less then 1 hour to conduct the entire exchange.

Unless you are renting a trailer, none of the outside vendors deliver anymore. We have ours all set, but it is part of the day taken. We are on the final day to initial departure. I have a chunk of stuff to do for work and final packing and prep.

I am working from home today which is a huge help. I can make sure work is all set, and still do the last finishing bits and pieces I need to work on prior to us leaving. The camper is 95% packed, the rest could not be packed until day of since I needed some of it for the morning. The rest of the day will be a mix of packing the camper, handling work and running a few minor errands. After that it will be on the road for the first short leg to get south of the DC metro area so we can avoid rush hour tomorrow. Tomorrow is the big haul day, and Saturday we finally arrive at our second home!!!

We are all so excited!!! and cannot wait to get on the road. All the hard work and sweat is definitely feeling worth it all now.

I received a return email from her regarding our online inquiry for our late august stay. She said it was available and I'm still waiting a return phone call to officially book it. Sounds like I have to bring a separate 2" ball hitch for my truck's receiver as I have a Hensley WDH on the trailer. They must have little flat trailers for the golf carts and will let you hook them to your hitch. I'm assuming you return the trailer to them after you drop off the cart. Definitely worth the extra time and effort for the savings. Hope I can book it by tomorrow.

Yeah, they told me if I had a 2" ball. I believe the one on my WD hitch is 2 1/8"

I have a regular ball that I use but it's only a 1 7/8" ball. Go figure right? That's okay, they will let you take their truck too with the trailer on it. That's probably what I will do. Quicker that way, I think.

They had none available for our August trip, but in all fairness, I was very late in calling them. I did get one booked for our November trip though.

So pretty much all prepped. Had to pull the TT out last night and park it in a bigger parking lot next door. Logistically, I have to make sure certain vehicles (which otherwise are legally parked) are not in the way as I pull out otherwise I cannot make some of the swings.

Pretty much working a half day today, then I am off to finalize those last couple of things. When DW gets home from work, she will clean up... then on the road we go.

The morning didn't start well though. I got into work this AM and realized as I am standing at the door, that I didn't have my badge to scan into work. Ugh.... Since I am an "EARLY" bird here at work, there is no one else that can badge me in. So home I went to get my badge and back to work. I only work about 6 miles away, but it's easily a 15 minute drive with lights and stop signs. Traffic can make that worse. Finally got into work... (Yeah?!?!)

Now just counting the hours down to get on the road. @jbrostek should also be well on his way too.

Working for free today huh? Looking forward to reading along and checking some pics.

peg110, forgetting your badge, obviously vacation brain. Wishing you a safe journey and looking forward to hearing all about your adventures.

Well, it's about 2 hours from departure time. Truck is hitched to Trailer.... everything packed (except those last minute "For the car" stuff). Just waiting for DW to get off of work. :)

Peg110, jbrostek,4077, and all others on the way to the Fort/Disney. Hope you have safe travels and enjoy your long awaited vacations. Will be watching for your reports.

It's a beautiful...hot...humid day at he Fort today. Arrived yesterday in the midst of a downpour but it cleared up for the campfire and movie. The Fort is significantly less crowded than last month.

We were up at 5:30, biked to te marina and made it to the boat at 6:45 to the contemporary, and were at the gates by 7:25. I really wish the fort would run their boat early to avoid such an early morning walk (hit my 10,000 steps by 930) but it was an incredibly productive morning. 14 attractions by the time we headed back here at 2:00. Unfortunately, the full takeout at Trails End doesn't start till 4:30 and we ended up with pizza instead of fried chicken...heard so much at about the chicken...will have it tonight before we head back to the park.

Have a great trip. I wish I was joining you. My reward for being on vacation last week was getting to work 56 hours this week... Literally. And that doesn't count the 2 or 3 hours I spent going through applicants for one of my openings and trying to coordinate appointments for interviews. Never mind the 565 emails from last week I still haven't looked at.

Whew. I need another vacation. Can I buddy share your site with you? I just need a little room for a damaged 42 ft 5er. o_O

As FYI to those reading, the take out chicken dinner is 8 pieces and sides for $25 but you can upcharge for a few dollars more and get all breast pieces if you have big eaters in your family like I do. We did it in March 2016 and here was the bill (to prove it could be done):

amcc, hope you and your family have a great visit!

I just want to echo jeffrey1966 in wishing all safe travels to and from the Fort and a relaxing (not sure that is the right adjective) time at WDW.

Paul hope you DW and DD had a good and safe trip down can't wait to hear all about it

Well 1st day of travels didn't go quite as planned. Got on the road only 9 minutes later than we wanted to do that was good. The boom docking though was a BUST. Just to dang hot for even our 12 volt fans to cope. Got back on the road and tried to get a hotel/motel. Everything booked up. So we drove several more hours until almost 4 am. Pulled over in cracker barrel lot and slept in truck with a.c. on until 6. Got up for breakfast. They just served it. So time to eat.
