August 2015 Car Rental Rate Watch

I do envy all of you late Aug people getting these low rates. I'm still walking around in sticker shock because of the early August rates. At this point though, I. too, am not holding out hope for anything better
I'm right there with ya. Although, I think I'm still hoping (or am in denial) because I check rates about 2 or 3 times per day!

Firefly at MCO recently dropped their rates, for my 13 days, $267 USD for a compact. I've already reserved with Thrifty for about $30 higher, so I may or may not switch. Anyone able to comment on Firefly? I've heard some sketchy reviews about them, and some positive.
I have no experience with Firefly as I am a big fan of sticking with well known rental companies. Many times their rates are similar, but I'm willing to pay slightly more for a nice, clean, good smelling, car. Have you tried Alamo?
Since this thread is only for those traveling in August, you might want to start a new thread to get more responses about Firefly.

Thank you all for this thread! I am a loyal customer to national, however, for my dates in August, the cheapst I could find with them was over $300. The alamo visa and costco rate brought a kidsize car up for me for a total of $143, so I'm taking that for 10 days!!

Big drop on Costco today. Still not cheaper than what I have through Dollar but it's going in the right direction
No change for my dates Aug 19th to Sept 2nd. Using Costco Contract ID 7014627 and the Visa coupon code AD2338FDF with Alamo Insiders, I am still $258 for a fullsize car at Alamo. I'll keep checking of course. :surfweb:

Not seeing a drop at Costco. Looking at aug 1 to 11 out of Tampa and rates still high with Costco, visa, dollar city, etc. getting saddened.

Thanks!!! I was able to change from a $325 for premium to $257 for a midsize with a free upgrade to standard (which is actually full size at MCO). This is the first "real" drop I've had. My dates are August 3-8.

I think it might be a Tampa thing! I was pretty proud of myself getting a Costco rate of $187 about 2 months ago for 8/19-26. Then it started creeping up to over $300! Just for the heck of it I went to look at my reservation and it WENT UP to $220 due to a rise in fees! I didn't think they could do that! I went to look at rates for MCO for my week and yesterday it was only $167 - Ugh! Couldn't fly into MCO this time because airfare was crazy high, compared to Tampa. I was really surprised though about my rate going up, even after I booked.

Dont give up hope for tampa yet. A couple of summers ago we flew into Tampa. Rates in orlando started dropping about 3 weeks out and for Tampa it didnt happen until the week before our trip.

Just switched my 13 day booking out of MCO to Firefly for $225. Their prices dropped only for their budget and compacts though.

My Alamo rental for an economy car August 11-18 went from 221 to 153 overnight. I was using the Visa coupon and Vroom Vroom code which were the lowest price, now I am using the Visa coupon and annual pass code.

My Alamo rates have gone back up (aug 3-8). They took a slight drop on Sunday and I rebooked, but they have been higher ever since.

I am one day off from those days, I need the 10-18 and my rates with Costco are more than double that! Is the annual pass code that much different? I have an Annual Pass, but only the voucher, so I don't know the code for the discount at this point.

I found the code, rates are still more than double :-(

We are not allowed to post this code, but you will be able to find it in a google search. I have used the code with just a voucher in the past. I should also point out that my rate is from the car care center, it was much higher from the airport. I just checked your dates with the AP code, the price was over $300 at the airport and $170 at the car care centre, you might want to consider taking the Disney Express bus then renting a car when you get on property.

Alamo rate dropped for Aug 20 - 30 for Standard SUV, I'm bouncing between Visa Coupon Code with Vroom Vroom or Costco. Yeah!!

Aug 1-11 out of Tampa. Need a mini van for car seats and a wheel chair. Literally selling out of the vans. I am at $385 for ten days. By far the most I've ever paid for a rental van and I do the world twice per year for last 15 years. Very disappointed. Oh well.

Oh boy. Now I have a decision to make. If I rent and return to the Disney car care center, my rates drop dramatically (from approx. $257 to $150). But, I'm traveling with my mom and sister, who both don't do well with "inconvenience". I think I could make the pick up easy enough, but the drop off, well, not so easy since we have a really late flight back with southwest.

Ugh - if only MCO's rate would drop!!!
(dates - aug 3-8)

The AP code is 860292. It's posted all over these boards, so I'm assuming it's allowed. If not, the mods can delete it and it will be a lesson learned for me. As far as I know, you are entitled to use it if you hold a voucher.

Hopefully I can find something, this seems so late to me but I haven't booked a rental car yet and we go 08/27 - 09/05. Wish me luck. We may just get one for a couple of days. Any advice renting from MCO and returning to Disney property? I think it's at the Swan.

Wow - my Dollar reservation from Aug 14 through Aug 26 went down $108 overnight! :teeth: Was $326, now $218. Using AAA rate and booked LL&G car class. The rate hadn't moved at all for 3 weeks and now a massive reduction all at once. Still higher than last year, but much closer to where I want it to end up.
