August 2015 Car Rental Rate Watch

We go every August and I remember last year being the same. It seemed as if rates would never drop, but they finally did. Just need to be patient.

Yay! Thank you. At $191 for a fullsize for 11 days, 08/28 - 09/07. Used my Alamo Insider's #, Costco ID, and Visa coupon code.

Do you have to show a Costco ID?

Where would I find the Costco code? tnx!

I check rates directly at Alamo's website by entering Costco contract ID 7014627 and Visa coupon code AD2338FDF. My understanding is that later on in the booking process, the site now wants your Costco membership card number. BTW, I found a better rate using the Vegas Brazil contract ID and will almost certainly be going with that, unless the Costco rate comes down by 50 bucks or so. I'd pay a bit of a premium for a Costco rate which I know will work vs Vegas Brazil of which I'm not quite 100% confident.

I brought my Costco card last time just in case and when I offered to show it they said it wasn't necessary as the code was already applied. Things could always change but in my experience, no. And I've never had to enter the Costco membership number when booking unless I booked through Costco directly. But when booking through Alamo, I haven't had to enter it.

I know as of Late March/April I had to put Costco member number in on Alamo website. I personally have never shown Costco card in all my rentals from various companies

I use the Tampa airport, so results may vary for MCO (reasons = not crazy about the Orlando airport, and rental car rates are always lower at TPA) ...

Finally some substantial downward movement. Dollar rental car rates for my mid-August weekly rental plummeted this morning - city special rates, no coupon necessary (way lower than BJs rate)

$138, no pre-pay, for a full-size for the week, down almost $100

You late August people are getting so much better than earlier August people. The cheapest I find at Alamo with those codes for 8 days starting August 10th, is $332.
Which is higher than what I booked months ago (but I am worried about showing up 5 hours earlier)

I"m mid August, "only" need 7 days ... I've been checking prices via Costco's travel site ... and lowest I found was $194 for an intermediate, picking up offsite. but should I go directly to the car rental company sites using the costco ID to get better pricing (stacking with Visa code) and possible pick up at airport for convenience...?

Yeah- Aug 1-8 here and nothing less than $300, still.

I personally have gotten higher rate direct on car rental site but I'm sure if I dug up code it would be same

I agree! We are August 9-22 and the rates have done nothing but go up! I still have hope though.:flower1:

I know the feeling. August 15th to the 29th and the rates have done nothing as well but have gone up! :headache: :scared:

Used a different browser to book at full size at Alamo for $194 from Aug 28 - Sep 7, using my Alamo Insider ID and the Visa coupon. It was $3 more than when I booked it using the Costco contract ID, but now I don't have to stress about them asking for a card I don't have!

slight price drop...down to $226
I wonder why mine is $50 more expensive than yours. Could a couple of days from the start of the reservation mean that much difference? I know yours is one day less but that should only account for about $20 difference. I am using the Insiders rate, Costco Contract ID 7014627, and the Visa coupon code AD2338FDF, I've got it down to $277 for a fullsize now for 2 weeks Aug 19th to Sept 2nd with Alamo.

Check your late August rates again! I just booked an Alamo standard car from 8/28 - 9/7 with the Costco ID and Visa coupon for $169. It was $191 yesterday.

And mid August is even higher than it was yesterday. What the heck? Hopefully in a few more weeks they drop like a rock.

Still $277 for me.....14 days Aug 19-Sept 2 using the same discounts.
