I have never done a Disney Trip during the summer time ever! I always go in Oct/Nov for the past 25 yrs. This yr, my DD will be 6 on Aug 4th and she really wants to go to Disney for her B-Day! What is the crowds and weather really like during the first wk in Aug? I am booked right know for Nov 7 - 15th, but considering changing dates Aug 1- 9th for her.

Crowd levels are always higher the first half of August versus the second half. We always go in August and it is always very hot and HUMID! There are typically mid to late afternoon thunderstorms every day, but they don't last very long.

We've gone in August the last 2 years and booked again for this year. I love that time of year, because I like it hot, and it will be hot & humid, guaranteed.

The first half of the month are much heavier crowds than the last half (based on crowd calendards, I've only ever gone the end of August). So, from a crowd persepctive, you may want to consider the 3rd or 4th week instead of the first, which should hopefully still be close enough to her birthday to count. :goodvibes

The only real negative for me is hurricane season. We came very close to a flight cancellation 2 years ago and flew in while a hurricane was hitting the southern part of the state. We had no impact on our vacation at all, but the stress the week before of watching forecasts was not great.

As for weather, like I said, hot hot hot, but the rain has never been a big issue for us. We've had plenty of afternoon showers, but they rarely slow us down and the good thing about them is they rarely last long and they tend to thin the crowds out a bit.

The weather will be hotter than the hottest hot.

I see that you are from Philly. Think of those days that they call a "heat wave" and everyone freaks out and you just want to stay inside all day and your car is like an oven and you feel like you are walking into a wall of heat when you open your door.

That's what it's like. Not to be a downer, but it really is bad so prepare for that. Oh and it storms almost every day in the afternoon.

That being said, we always go the last week of August :). We get out early in the morning, take a midday break, lots of water, bring lots of clothes or plan to do laundry because you will be drenched in sweat pretty much as soon as you go outside, put lots of AC attractions in your touring plan, tour at night if possible, and get everyone a Frogg Togg Cooling Pad. You won't be able to get as much done as in cooler weather, so count on that too.

Weather is hot and humid, but certainly tolerable for most. We usually go a little later in August. You should expect a rain shower in the afternoons, usually between 15 minutes to an hour or so. The heat is not too bad as everything is air conditioned.

The crowds are moderate at the start of August and tend to be lower the later you get in the month. That means busier than November, but not at peak. I would say the crowds in November will be lighter and the weather not as hot and humid. The bonus in August is you will always be able to swim and hit the water parks.

On the birthday issue, I brought DD on her birthday (October) a couple of times and she loved being there and the attention she got with her birthday button on. The first time we did BBB int he morning and MNSSHP at night that day. It was a long day, but something she will always remember. If it is a big deal to DD, then I would say switch the dates, if she is OK with celebrating her birthday in November, grab a birthday pin and do it then.

Thank you for your posts, I think I will stick with Nov and do something diffearent for her B-day!
