August 2014 Car Rental Deal Watch!

Dollar is back down this afternoon. I rebooked at $316 (down 85$). Gramontherun, Your dates are now $223 for a midsize, about $5 cheaper for a compact.

Found a code and now am at $289. Starting to get more realistic, though hoping to be under $200 when all is said and done.

Priceline question: is a second driver included? Can you purchase for an additional charge and if so how much? Thanks!

No the 2nd drivers is not included. Depending on who your rental is with the charges can be $5 - $10 a day

Hi - We just got a Dollar MiniVan thru the BJs website for 8/22 thru 8/28 for $378.39 including taxes. The base rate was $295 for the week.

I've been checking all the car companies for the last couple of months. The best I have is for a compact at National with the KLM code. $210 for 8 days 8/20 to 8/28.

I just checked again a few days ago and National is all out of cars for this time period. What?? Seriously. I sure hope it's not going to this busy at the parks at the end of August. But with all this hype about Anna & Elsa events at HS, maybe that is driving people to Disney during the end of August. Which means our rates are going no where but up. If you can get a car.

I have two cars booked for 8/20 - 8/31 using the KLM rate and recently got the same message when I was checking prices. I suspect that they're not out of cars, but putting up that message to indicate that the KLM code is invalid. I've experimented with the code for a few other airports for those dates and keep getting the "sold out" message.

Does anyone know if they will honor reservations previously made with the code if they are no longer accepting it?

I still can't believe how high rental prices are for the end of August. I'm looking for a full size or smaller suv for August 18-30. I hope they start dropping soon, I've never not had a rental booked this close to vacation.

Agreed. I've never had issues like this. Wish I'd have booked something awhile ago when prices were lower...just didn't envision the current spike. We use Priceline and always have something by now in the $14 a day range. We're there Aug 16-31, so plenty of time.

If you have Costco check out rates on their website. I have found decent prices through Alamo with their discounts

Thank you!

I think you may be on to something because if I leave the KLM code out, there are cars available. Put it in and all of a sudden there are no cars. Makes me a bit leary trying to use the code for the booking I made a month ago.

I also have a booking I made months ago. I would think that they would have to contact you in advance if they're not going to honor a reservation.

I am shocked at how high the prices are for my dates (Aug 17 - 27). Anywhere vaguely decent is $300, and most (Hertz / National / Enterprise etc) are into the $500's!

Our dates Aug 7-22 Dollar on their specials page 20% off $404 for standard . Not the best but better than renting on property then returning at mco with less days

When people post rental prices, is that the final price including taxes and fees?

$ 404 was taxes and fees today i just checked and its over$ 800. These rates are nuts this year!

Don't know if this has already been mentioned as I didn't read the thread but saw this in a Costco e-mail this morning. Valid for August rentals from Budget through Costco. $25 off plus a $20 Costco cash card. Read the details here.

If you are a Costco member, check the rates and see if this works out for you. We usually rent Alamo because they are cheaper and we get to pick our car. But, sometimes, Budget can work out cheaper.
