another august tip - it rains everyday for a little while and ponchos are just a pain to use and no help with keeping you even remotely dry (in mine and my families opinions :rotfl:) so this year we're bringing very very light rain coats!

Hey Wherisalyssa last year I bought rain ponchos at Giant Tiger and at Dollarama they were both selling them for a $1.00 each.

The ones from Giant Tiger were clear and absolutely useless, they did not keep us dry at all.

The ones from Dollarama were white with red maple leafs all over them they were absolutely great! They took little room in my backpack and at the end of the night we just tossed them and we were still quite dry.

I was thinking about the rain - my DS and I are both golfers - I was thinking about buying us bucket hats and golf rain jackets - they are typically light and can be folded down (sometimes into a belt pouch). We would be able to throw them in our golf bags after the trip as well - anyone ever tried something like that?

We are there 1-18 August 2012 but are staying offsite at Windsor Hills. I'm so excited. We got our AP vouchers in the mail yesterday and have booked our flights and accommodation so it's starting to feel real now.

Thanks! I will keep my eyes out for sales on those. If I don't find any then I guess we'll be poncho-ing it up

I'm so excited! I've added some more to our Disney box. I'm trying to pick up something small so all the kiddos can have some new surprise everyday while we are there. I've been stalking the dollar spot at Target and found some really cute Mickey, Minnie, and Daisy socks. I was sad there were no Donald socks, though.

WOW - I have always wanted to experience Disney with a huge group of family like that - we have never been able to pull it off. Sounds like so much fun!

OK - New development - I mentioned the big family gathering to a couple of my sisters, and I think we may give it a try - looks like a group of 12 for sure, with more possible. This will require completely revamping our plans, but still think it will be August. We may look into the new value resort with the family suites. Will let you know!

I have officially booked our trip for August 24th-31st!! YAY!

I am very excited, but now I realize that the planning is just beginning. Looking for suggestions about flights. Obviously, I am looking for great deals! Which airlines should I be looking into? Also, is there a particular time when great deals on flights come out?

I stopped posting because life has gotten in the way.

The good: my oldest DD has started prek3 and is loving it. Those 3 days a week she goes are great for me and her sister. Peace and quiet. :rotfl2:

The bad: my sister (the one who I am planning our trip with) has been diagnosed with breast cancer, The past 3 months has been a blur of doctor appointments and surgeries. She has appt this week to see when chemo will begin. She lives 90minutes away and I can't stand the distance. :sad2:

As for the trip, I'm not sure what's going to happen. I have no personal experience with chemo (other than my former manager but we weren't close and I was dealing with my mother's death at the time so I don't remember what it was really like for her).

My main focus right now is that my sister get through this. Then hopefully we can celebrate together at Disney.

Count us in! We will be staying at Boardwalk Villas August 4-12. We are celebrating DD's 11th birthday and I let her choose the resort, and BWV was her choice!

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear this! My thoughts and prayers are with your sister and the rest of family.

We are going to be staying at AoA from August 6-11 with DH, DD 17, DS 16 and DD 5. It is our first time staying on the grounds (!), a first trip for DD 5 and an anniversary trip for DH and me. However, I am thinking of adding another day at either the beginning or end of my trip. My reservations for the room are already made. Anyone else have experience doing it this way? Did it mess up your reservations? I want to decide before the 180 day mark (obviously I have some time).

Thank you.

We find out today when surgery is. Soon we hope so chemo can get underway and she can start her process.

Oh my, Natalie. I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. Sending positive thoughts your way. Please let us know how she's doing.

Thank you. She is going in for another surgery but we are waiting for the date. Looks though like we will be having an early Thanksgiving.

ps. we booked the flights yesterday :) woohoo! one step closer :)

by the way - we've already booked to stay at POP but my family is now thinking we might enjoy a moderate more... what does everyone think?

so far we like PORFQ best and we've already stayed at CBR...

should we go POP or PORFQ?
such a tough decision! :)

We'll be staying at FW cabins from August 17-31. Taking my grandson to IOA, US, Sea World, and Legoland, plus Disney, of course.

Depends on 2 things - 1) Are you getting free dining? If so, I like the moderates because you get standard dining instead of quick service. 2) If you are not getting free dining, then how much time do you spend at the resort? Some of the moderates are very nice - but if you don't spend any time there, it makes no difference. We tend to be away from the rooms most of the time, so we go with value unless we get a great deal.

Also, crowds at the values tend to be a little bit on the younger side, which can make for a noisier, more rambunctious crowd - but sometimes that's a good thing :)
