August 2012 code watch

Just booked Pop for Aug. 12-18 (yay!!).

The CM I talked to basically said there would be a special coming out for those dates soon. Didn't say whether they would continue this promo that is going on or if it would be free dining. He didn't say when, but did say it would be well in advance of the 45 days and to keep checking for it.

Sorry to be so vague, but that's all he could tell me. Seems hopeful!! I'm looking for something decent so we can go moderate -- trying to do semi-budget this time!

And the wait is on...

Have any of you already been in August? Wondering what the crowds were like the first 1/2 of the month?? Any help would be appreciated! :thumbsup2

My family goes in August every year. The crowds really aren't that bad. We use Touring Plans to help us figure out which parks will be most crowded depending on the day. It's never steered us wrong! August IS hot, it does rain (usually in the afternoons) and it is very humid...but that's Florida. The year my husband and I were there in June it felt like it was MUCH hotter. We prefer August. We always pack the ponchos. Actually I have found that LLBean makes a rain coat that is long and zips and it's perfect. I ordered a Men's XL so it's plenty long and I'm able to wear my sling pack underneath with no problem. (I'm almost 5ft5in, 110lbs and the coat comes to about mid shin! VERY roomy!)They aren't cheap, but they really do a wonderful job keeping you and your bags dry during rain events!! They also fold up nicely.

We have been to Disney during two different hurricanes. Both times all that really happened was that the parks were totally empty and we were able to get on rides and stay on them until we wanted to get off...and our feet got wet. Best day of our honeymoon was when Hurricane Ernesto came through!!:lovestruc

We arrived at the tail end of Faye a few years ago, everybody was going on and on about how Faye was parked over Orlando and was not going to move and we would have to boat from park to park. Not true. It blew itself out to sea and the ten following days were rain FREE. No joke. It rained on our last day for about ten minutes.

Long story short, August is a mixed bag. You can usually count on rain in the afternoons, and you can count on the humidity being pretty gross and the heat pretty high, but it's all manageable, as are the crowds. The Brazilian tour groups are cleared out for the most part by then.

My family prefers August...usually late August but when we've gone in early-mid August we found the conditions the same.

Go for it!!!:thumbsup2

August discount pixie dust where are you??? pixiedust:

I know it's still early but I'm so impatient! Last year at this time I had already been booked with FD for 2 months...:worship:

I too am waiting for Aug. My sister has booked a Grand Villa for 5 nights but we are looking for a couple of other nights before we got to BLT.

Does anyone know if the codes are good at the All Star suites. That is what my dh wants to stay at. We will be with my 2 sons and their gf's so we need at least 2 rooms. We thought the suite would be a nice fit.

Like everyone else... we too are waiting to see if any discount offers appear for August before picking our resort. Last year we booked All Star sports in January without a bargain. The following week, I received a PIN in the mail and ending up upgrading the reservation to Wilderness Lodge with free dining and it was only a $300 difference. It was worth EVERY dollar spent being close to the MK with 2 lil ones. I guess I'll keep looking or book in hopes of getting a mail offer.

"I don't think we are going to see any August discounts until at least March..."

I took a look at my last three years of booking for early August, and each time I did so in early March, around the 11th-15th. We've had percentage off a room, a gift card promo, and free dining in three years, so quite a variety but each one saved me money. I'm going bonkers waiting and hearing about all of the codes out there, but looking at my history, I really should just be patient! I'm with you on March...and crossing my fingers that I get to be a part of the deal emails.......:surfweb:

We plan to start our Dis vacation the last week of August and hope to stay until Sept 19th. I am hoping for free dining. Looks like I'll have my eyes glued to the computer in March.:surfweb:

I just got a pin code for August! It's a 30% off for stays most Sunday-Thursday nights 8/5 - 8/31. We always go in August, so this isn't a problem. We got a free dining pin last April that we used for a trip last August, and I'm still hoping for one of those, but this MAY be enough to convince my husband. MAYBE.

Lucky you! That is what I'm hoping for! We will be going for our honeymoon in August

Sigh, I got soooo excited when an email from Disney Destinations was in my inbox...alas, just a basic "here's what you've looked at online" in response to what trips I've saved so far.......I could have really used a trip to distract my brain tonight.....

I know how you feel.... I got a Pin the other day for free dining. Only one problem, it's till the end of June and we have to go in August!!! Or, the very earliest, July. June is definetly not doable!

I think for me, that would be worse, sorry about the disappointment! Have you tried calling to see if those dates aren't set in stone? I've read about others who think the pin expires and the cm are able to sprinkle some pixie dust and make it happen.....

I received this pin code too but needed it for 8/1-8/4. It did say in small print that other dates may apply so I decided to give it a try. I couldn't get the discount for just the room but it did allow me to get the discount if I booked the room and tickets :woohoo: Boy, did that TA probably regret getting me on the other end after talking to her for almost an hour. It definitely worked out that I did my research though. She were mistaken and kept telling me that the pin code rate was the one I researched as being the rack rate. We were finally able to figure it out and she quoted me a better rate than the TA I had spoke to the night before :thumbsup2 She was great and I wanted to give that feedback but the survey at the end of the phonecall disconnected on me  Oh well...

Yay! I've almost got my husband convinced. ALMOST. This pin code helped, along with the probable prospect of free dining. I think I might get him to book with this PIN initially and then switch to free dining if/when that comes along.

Actually, today in my email I just also got a pin for a percentage off for trips in August. Not the FD that I am still hoping comes out, but at least it's something, so now I'm just waiting for my bidding on weeks at work (should have set soon) and I'll use that pin. It's for like $134 at a moderate which is what we would pick. There was a different percentage for each class of resort. I may price out the QS dining plan and see if it's to our advantage or not. I usually end up booking AAA and then changing if something better comes up, so I may try their pin (which I think beats AAA) and if FD or something better comes up, change reservation. That's what I did last time and it worked great with no problem. I called on first day of FD offered (visa holder) and got my same resort available, though we are willing to do different resorts if need be.
