August 2012 Car Rental Thread

I wish the SOG pick up worked for me. We land at MCO and go to Universal first. So we'll pick up the car and drive ourselves over.
I'd have to rent a car from MCO for those three days, return it to MCO, use ME to get to Disney, get a taxi over to SOG, and rent another. I'd lose half a day with all of that aggregation so it's simply not worth it.

I told myself if we couldn't get a car for the 5 of us for 200 or under I wasn't renting one and we'd use a taxi to and from Universal and then ME. Luckily I found one for 206.

Is there any way to flip your trip and do US last? We had this issue in May, but the whole trip was at US, so no go to switch. Just a thought.:flower3:

Aug 24-31. I've tried pretty much every code out there for National and Alamo and the KLM is the best I can do. Alamo is untouchable.

Ain't that the truth!!:headache: My dates are the 22-28, and it's over $300 with Alamo. I did use the Vroom Vroom code for around $180 full-size, or $205 mid-size SUV, but it will be 2 of us, so a smaller car is fine and I prefer the cheaper rate. Canceled both when I finally got a "lock low and go" rate at Dollar for around $116 all in - I may go with that rather than the SOG, but I love a great deal, lol.

Still hoping for Alamo rates to drop any day now.

Also - let's say I book a standard at Alamo - and the cars that are left in the lot at that time of night (10 pm or so) are all awful. Would I be able to chose a car from the National isle? And if yes, would I be choosing from a standard or full size isle - as in does National have a "standard isle".

We didn't know we could have asked to choose from the National small SUV isle without an additional charge, so we just took one of the Jeeps and made due with it.

:scratchin I think I am missing a big bit of info here :thumbsup2 are Alamo & National "connected" or something? If Alamo has terrible cars, or are out of what you reserved, or whatever, are the National cars something that you can request? Our flight will be arriving in the evening, so it is something I would love to know, just in case it is needed.

Thanks!

Alamo and National are owned by the same company. I'm sure that they move cars across brands when needed.

I just tried National for pick-up at Shades of Green and dropping off at the MCO airport for your dates and get $85.58 total for a full size car. That is using the Kayak corporate code 5007751 and ND8578ADT coupon for $35 off.

UGHHHH...I just re-checked for my dates of Aug 1-9, and the prices went to $400. Thankfully, I already booked it when I saw this on the boards last week.:)

I just entered the 1234567 code and the $35 off code for national pick up at CCC and prices were good for my dates....do we need to provide a coupon for these codes? I dont want to go there and look like a fool :lmao: sorry if this question has already been addressed..thanks for any info:thumbsup2

Does anyone have any experience with ace car rental? Via Priceline they have a quite for $480.00 for my dates aug 10 at 2pm to aug 21 at noon including taxes for a full size suv. I am worried to reserve it as a quick search yielded horrible reviews! I think the Priceline people would make it right, and it is $100. less than what I have with budget but I don't know if it's worth the hassle! Anyone rent from them with a good outcome? Priceline says in terminal but I don't remember seeing them?

No coupons necessary; the contract ID is for Emerald Club members (you do need to be a member, but it's free to join) and the coupon code is public and does not require a physical coupon.:thumbsup2

Alamo and National are owned by Enterprise. All three brands share the same cars. If you don't find something you like at Alamo, just ask for something different.

No, we don't move the cars across brands when needed, we have over 30K cars at MCO, we prep the cars and send them where they are needed between National, Alamo and Enterprise (who is the mother company).

We're saying the same thing. I don't mean from Alamo to Thrifty. I mean from Alamo to National...the brands under the same umbrella.

Does anyone have any idea what a weekly minivan rental should run me? Our trip is not until December so I have some time to watch. I just booked the lowest one I have seen in the last day or two with National for 390.00 (with taxes at 458.00 Ouch!) I am thinking this is very high but compared to the other 600.00-700.00 rates I have seen I got a little spooked that I might miss this rate. But it can be cancelled if something better comes along.

So if anyone can tell me what I should expect as a "good" rate I would really appreciate it. I don't know what I am doing. :drive:

Just checked your dates. If you pick up on Aug. 8, and return it to Mco on the 15th ( wasn't sure when you were flying out). The total is $164 for either compact, mid size, standard or full size. This was without any codes. There are codes out there that will save you $35 and if you sign up for National's Emerald Club, you might save more and get and additional driver free.

:dance3: Thankies ! ! :dance3:

By trying various discount codes - KAYAK, AARP, BJ's- and the $35 coupon, I managed to get it to 102.86. They were all the same rate, as long as it was SoG to MCO.

Then I logged into Emerald Club (which I haven't used in years), and plugged in the same combos. But at one point I forgot to replace the discount code, and left that field blank.
So...with NO discount code, and a coupon code from an email sent back in early June that I found in my email trash can :rotfl:

I ended up at a rate of 85.21, with a free additional driver.

Nice!:thumbsup2

I have a mini van rented for August 17-28th. From MCO - not doing Disney - my rate is $527. I cant seem to find anything better and I a think I am getting lost in all the codes. Any suggestions?? Thanks Oh, we also have 6 people so I am thinking the mini van is our best option.

Thank you! I was able to rent a mid size from 8/22 to 8/27 pick up at SOG return at MCO for $85!! Will National pick us up at the resort and bring us to SOG? I had used them before at the CCC and they did.

Thanks!!

Tracie

My rates with Alamo have now dropped to $190 for a standard OR $194 for a full size car - picking up at MCO dropping off at MCO for 8/7 to 8/16. WOOT !

I was hoping to pay no more than $200 for the 9 days - now I am hoping for another drop in rates, but if not, at least I reached slightly below my max.

I do want to make one little mention that there is a guard shack at the entrance to Shades of Green and you CAN be asked to present your military ID (or proof of room) any time you pass through that guard shack. My experience has been that they will check your name against their reservation list if you are coming in any sort of transport like a taxi or a car service but that walking in on foot we've never been asked for ID.

With all of you renting at Shades I just want you to know what CAN happen. I would probably call SOG's national office directly and ask if you'll have any trouble getting into SOG. Because SOG is not owned like any other typical hotel you can't just assume that you'll freely be allowed onto the property.

Couldn't you show the guard your rental confirmation?
I have no idea.

My point is that the facility is technically only open to people who are allowed to be there. It isn't like any other hotel where non-guests can just wander into the public spaces. So regardless of if you have a confirmation, they and only they decide who is allowed access to the space. I would strongly suggest calling Shades directly to ask if there will be a problem getting onto the facility.
