Looking to take my first trip home to BLT on August of 2010.

Anyone visit the world in mid-August?

We are looking to go in the Summer of 2010 and we need to decide when on the Summer.

Any advice is appreciated?

Thanks

Jim

Yep. We are going 3 weeks from today!! :woohoo: "Dream" season starts Aug. 16...it's a great way to spread your points and maximize an AP. Go every other year with an AP & bounce between later August & early-mid August...:thumbsup2 Also, typically once the season changes (due to many southern schools going back in mid-August) the crowd levels also drop a little over what they usually are in say July. This year however they are starting the Free Dining on Aug. 16. That is usually later so I don't know how that will affect crowds...I know ADR's were a real pain to plan for this time.:confused3

I swear up and down that the best time to visit THE WORLD is the last week in August. All the southern kids are back in school, and most northern kids have already taken their summer vacations. Yes its hot in August at WDW, but thats why God created Typhoon Lagoon!!!!!!!

Pros:

Less crowds
Packing is light (shorts, Ts & bathing suit)
Parks open late
Cools off in the evening
Misters set up around the parks

Cons:

It's hot & steamy like you're wrapped in a heating blanket all day! :headache:

Advice: If you get up early hit the parks & do your favorite rides first & leave before noon when the crowds pile in & it's getting really hot. Take a nap, swim, shower, whatever & head back to the parks for an early dinner (or at a resort) & enjoy the rest of the night! Or do what we do & sleep in (it is vacation after all ;)) lounge by the pool & then do an early dinner & hit the parks till 12am-2am.

Enjoy! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the responses.

We tend to rise early and go to the parks and then hit the pool in the PM.

We will see next summer!

We went to Disney last August 10-16, but did not attend any parks. Just did a
resort vacation at AKV and loved it. This year we are going Aug 23-Sept 6, and are doing the parks. I will let you know how it goes. I know it will be very hot, but we plan to take it slow with a big break in the middle of the day for pool and nap time.

We will be there August 8 - 20. This will be the first time down there for an extended period of time in August. We once took a Disney Cruise in late August and then did a couple of days at WDW afterward, but didn't get the whole experience there in August. I am looking forward to it. I will try to report back when we get back.

We've been 3 times in August - loved every one of them, even with a hurricane closing all the parks (a rare occurrence).

Have gone once in July (just got back) and loved the weather - hot, less rain than August, but the crowds were something else. Even the EMH lines were over an hour long for Soarin and Test Track and I swear more than half the people there didn't belong (they did away with the wristbands). Don't get me started on those July tour groups... at least they are well behaved and don't stay at the DVC resorts. :D

Mid- to late-August is when we like to go since the crowds thin out as Florida schools (and probably other southern states) are back in session by then. We do what other posters have mentioned - hit the parks early then back to the resort to swim, sip a cool beverage by the pool :sunny: or just relax in the room. Once the hottest part of the day is over (if that's possible!) we head back out for dinner and more parks if we feel like it. You just have to go at a pace that's good for you and your family.
