August 20, 2005 - L.A. to Port Canaveral - Eastbound Repo Cruise - The SHIP OF FOOLS

I have a couple of questions about the hotel. Exactly what is the transportation from the hotel to the ship? I'm one of those compulsively early people and I'd want to be at the terminal early. Can you decide what time you leave the hotel? Lastly, does anyone know what there is to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel? I'm wondering what there is to do right there if you don't have a car and choose to stay two nights instead of one.

Thanks!
Kathy

Renee - you are wonderful! Thank you!
I do have a quick question about this, and apologise if you and the others have already answered it -

We will be flying in to LAX - we'd like to go over to Disneyland for at least one, if not two days - then spend the night before at San Pedro H.I. What can you recommend?

Hugs,
Rae

I think there is a shuttle that goes from the hotel to the port. We are also staying two nights so we can go to Disneyland on Friday. There is also supposed to be a shuttle that can take you to Disneyland too. BTW - the shuttles are available for a fee.

Hi Rae,

We plan on flying into LAX and go to Disneyland for one day. We're staying at the Holiday Inn for both nights and just taking a shuttle to the port and to Disneyland. Wish we could spend more time at Disneyland, but we can't take more time off of work.:(

Reneé

So are people just going to line up for the shuttles in the morning?

Not sure about how that's going to be worked, but I also thought that since there is a charge for the shuttle, maybe we'll try a taxi since there will be so many of us at the hotel waiting to get to port.

Planning on renting a minivan and then dropping it off close to the port.
We're going to fly to Vegas though, drive to L.A. and do D.L. for a day and see the sites. My parents have never been to L.A. or L.V. so we're hoping to show them all the highlights. Might even try to get them to go on the plane from Vegas to the Grand Canyon. I'll look after the pool while they do that though :)

Enterprise was the only place I have found that has a drop off point close to the Holiday Inn and the port. It was a $15 - $25 drop off fee. Cant truly remember.

I figure as it gets closer I'll start into the car rental stuff.

I love the net for this though. I rebooked and cancelled all of my hotels in Vegas for our upcoming trip. All of the rooms were on sale and I saved anywhere from $10 up to $60 per night on what I'd booked a few months ago :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

Because this hotel specializes in transporting guests to the cruise ships, I for one will be using what ever they arrange. Perhaps our "little" group will be in some sort of bus. Regardless, it is so far off, I am not going to stress. On a different topic, I just did the walkthrough on my new house, and it is beautiful. And I had a glass of champaigne when I got home to celebrate. We close tomorrow, and will be all moved in by noon on Friday. I will be off the web until Monday whan Verizon hooks up the DSL, and I will be with out cable for another 30 to 60 days, the joys of buying in a brand new community.

Grumbo to Jazzman......
We could work transport from the Holiday Inn into our REAS package!!!
Add $20 to it and provide a first class highway coach to the port..

Grumbo, you are a peach. I call dibs on the seat behind the driver!

Kathy, I will take pictures before we get too much stuff in. We are moving in rather bare, but the DR stuff and the fridge come Saturday, the c ouch, chair and ottoman come Tuesday. And tomorrow I have to buy a new dryer because the ******* salesman did tell me I needed gas, not electric. He has been the absolute worst part of this entire ordeal. We bought in January, and have waited this long.

Tom loves your idea and it looks like we will fly in Wednesday, then visit the park via the hotel shuttle service. Checking with Buckaroo's Dad to see what his plans are - can't get enough of Steve's wit and humor!!!

I have missed a day and have some catching up to do:

Rae, My heart goes out to you on your daughters anniversary. Your memorial has touched my heart each time I have viewed it. Think of all the lives you have touched with your precious gift. I am signed up for organ donation along with my children. I hope others out there will consider this also.

Marsha, Congrats on the new home. Sounds so exciting, but I do not envy you right now! The head aches of moving are still tooo fresh for me!!!! Keep the champagne handy. You may need massive amounts very soon!!!

Grumbo & Jazz, I am thinking about your REAS package. It sounds very interesting in a kinky sort of way!! I'll get back to you on making a reservation.

Ivanova, I'm still undecided about the Holiday Inn. We are definately flying out to CA on the 17th of Aug. Going to DL and DCA on the 18th & 19th. But we haven't made hotel or transfer arrangements yet. It's just too early and most places don't have their systems ready for those dates yet. I'd hate to book with Janis and then change our plans later. We were kinda hoping Disney would come out with a DL pre-cruise package. Who knows??

To all you new comers, WELCOME!! It's great to have you all along with our little group of crazies!!!

I think this catches me up to date. I love you all and I miss talking to everyone! How about a few Panama Canal tidbits?!?!

I'm surprised there weren't any DL pre-cruise packages either, but as briskly as DL on property hotels are booking for next summer (due to the 50th anniversary) I guess they didn't want to "tie up" hotel rooms with pre-cruisers (go figure).

Right now Janis is the only person able to make ressies at the Holiday Inn but starting 08/19 of this year anyone can call and book a room (just not at the rate we're getting).

You could book with Janis as a precaution, then if you find something that meets your needs better, you can cancel with Janis later on.

Janis can probably provide more details about the hotel to terminal transportation ... personally we'll probably drive our behemoth SUV (and might run our own private shuttle LOL).

As for the immediate vicinity, check out www.sanpedro.com that'll probably give you some good info.

So, do we want to try & take over the restaurant at the hotel? Or one nearby? Or just the pool & bar? :hyper:

susan,
I just went over to the sanpedro.com site and played with the "fog horn sounds" - Finally found something I can compare Tom's sneezes to!!!!!!!

Thanks!
Rae

Rae- Thinking of you today, sending good thoughts..........

How come the counters are wrong?

The Holiday Inn sounds good, I think I'll join that group, also in for the exchanges.

How far is the Holiday Inn San Pedro from Disneyland? We're flying in on August 15 or 16. Our current plan is to stay at a Disneyland "Good Neighbour" Hotel for three nights then move to San Pedro on Friday.

I've convinced DH of the importance of being close to the port and having transportation already arranged, but really we're just moving hotels so we can PARTY with you all the night before the cruise!:jester:

Rae - I'm glad you're coming to join us!

A couple of recommendations for DL hotels have been Desert Inn and Suites or Candy Cane Inn. Are these equivalent to WDW's All Stars Value hotels or worse?

This is turning into a three-week trip for us!
