Thanks, I just didn't scroll down far enough! That's a bunch of points per person  . DH called the vacation club and they said that we wouldn't be able to use our current booking and wouldn't be able to rebook using points until closer to the cruise date. Hmmm...not worth the chance.

Ahhh, the value of DVC points.
Glad I sold mine off and now only have to haggle with the DCL reps and TAs!

That really stinks. You should just be able to transfer from cash to points with the same stateroom. That is such a rip-off.

Here is what happened to me trying to use DVC points for teh East to West cruise.

On June 14, 2004, I placed a call to MS and was the first caller to request a reservation on this cruise. The Member Services Cast Member I spoke with was Vanessa; I made our request for a Category 5 stateroom. Vanessa placed me on hold to check for availability. When Vanessa returned she informed me that a Category 5 Guaranteed was available. Vanessa informed me that the points necessary would be 388 points per passenger, with a total of 776 points required to make the reservation. Vanessa advised me we had XXXX available for our 2005 use year and that our balance after making this reservation would be XXX points. I requested that the reservation be confirmed, and the necessary personal information was provided. I was placed on hold while the reservation was to have been made. I happily told my wife we were successful in getting a reservation for this cruise using our points. I seemed to be on hold for quite a while. When Vanessa returned she sadly informed me that she could not make the reservation using our DVC points, as there had been a computer error. Vanessa was very apologetic and I know it was not her doing.

Glad I made a cash reservation for the East to West cruise.

Now trying to get a reservation using points at DL for after the cruise but the 2005 points are not available yet.

I hope DVC gets it together.

Did they say that the reason was that the sailing was full and therefore was no availibility, or that you couldn't use your points? We have to decide what to do with our points before August 31, and won't be able to make the reservation for the cruise using DVC points before September 20. It seems the safest thing to do would be to bank them and try again closer to the 60-day mark.

I had checked the DCL web site for availability and it was there just a short time before I called at 7:00 am. MST.
At the time I called I had dail up service and did not have access to phone and internet at the same time. Just said a computer mistake. That's all. kinda frustrating telling us we had a reservation then taking all our information and then telling us it was a no go. That is what is frustrating.

Will also try at the 60 day mark.

Here's a view we'll get to see soon enough. A live cam shot of the beach at Cabo San Lucas.

You know guys, when I booked this trip we were suffering through a yucky cold spring. Now that it has been hot I wonder how I'm going to feel going far, far south in the middle of August. I bet the heat is going to be quite miserable.

I agree with you, especially since I don't do too well in the heat. Guess that means I'll have to spend a lot of time on our veranda, in the pool and drinking those nice cold drinks that they make!

Did you sell ALL your DVC points? Sounded like from previous posts that you used your DVC points to cruise most all of the time. So, why have you decided not to use your DVC points to cruise with now?

If you don't mind me asking how many points did you have and how long ago did you sell? Did you keep ANY points so that you could go to WDW?

And that is why cruise ships have AIR CONDITIONING!!! ::yes::

I just hate to spend a ton of time inside. I'd rather lounge by the pool in the shade. I wonder if it will be terribly hot even in the shade.

I'm betting on VERY HOT even in the shade. I'm thinking of investing in one of those neck cooler things. I want to lounge on Deck 4 but be somewhat comfortable. I'd hate to spend this cruise indoors. What a waste of great sunshine and fresh air. Also a permanent visor attached to my head will help I believe.

We were on a very early (6th I think) sailing of Magic back in '98. It was hot enough that we actually spent very little time outside (even on the verandah); my guess is that the time we spend in the Caribbean will be similar.

However, the water temps in the Pacific ought to be in the mid 70's or so (some 10-15 degrees cooler than the Caribbean) so I'm thinking the weather on that side will be really nice.

Hi, I have been through the Panama cannal on a cruise ship and it is very hot and sticky, it could well be like a tropical rain forest, hot humid and whilst there could be some rain or cloud you can also get very sun burnt.

The ship inside has air con, but you will want to experience the transition of the cannal.

The best way is in short bursts, at the main locks, three in all, and then occassionally check on the canal.

I found Acapulco, Mexico in May quite nice, more refreashing than Florida, but still the sun can have a big effect.

Hats and suncreame advisable, and also headache tablets if you suffer from direct sunlight. I do not usually suffer but had a migriane on the Panama night.

I found Cabo st lucus very hot and dry, and whilst the views are terrific, plan for a hot dry day.

Havent done Quatermala, but I went to Costa Rica, and there it was tropical rainforests, hot humid but liable to the occassional downpour. Beautifical wildlife!

All that said I have booked again, it is well worth it, but plan in advance.

Electrical suggestion, Camcorders and cameras, sometimes it is so hot or humid they can cut out if left in direct sunlight for a long time. I had one which had a 'dew point' cut out and if you moved quickly from Air con room to the outside it would 'cut out' for a period of time.

Take care on these and the film inside as some makes, do not come out afterwards.

On the Panama crossing day I found at Lunch, the inside resturants were very busy, I think everyone overdid it and wanted to cool off, in quality air con.

Final thought, anyone on medication, take care and consult your doctor, your tablet level might need adjustment, as you will be hot and may sweat a bit more.

Asthma sufferers be careful of LA in the summer!

I think we should start the "must have" list for this cruise. Item #1: water mister fans Item#2: neck cooler Item#3: Visor or hat Item#4 Sunscreen Item#5: Sunglasses

This might just be our favorite new site. heatreliefdepot.com

I actually don't mind the heat. What makes it even better is that I know that it will probably be grey and dreary here in Oregon!
