I love the book exchange idea...have already been thinking about how many I would bring...should we have a sign up by book type, or what ? Or just bring stuff we've already read and would be happy to donate to the DIS meet ? I've also been toying with the idea of a reader's discussion group...what does everyone think ?

Hey Ivanover, I heard you have your own Costco cart for our shopping trip. Someone caught you cruising the Costco parking lot recently.

I'm in for the book exchange also. Just send me the details! We'll have to take along some "picture books" for our "party boys" (I'm thinking they may have a hard time focusing on small print!!) (And NO I wasn't thinking about THOSE kinds of picture books, guys!!)

I am really missing the Panama Canal Tip Of the Day! Any one have any tidbits to share?

On the regular cruise thread someone has started a thread concerning immunizations we should consider before the cruise. I hadn't given that a thought and am not sure how to approach the DH about the possibility that he may need some shots. (He HATES needles!!):earseek:

I think I'll put a call into our family doctor and see what she suggests. Do you think Disney will require certain shots or do you think that will be left to the individual cruisers disgression? I'd be willing to take any kind of shot to insure I didn't get sick on this cruise.

EG, I read that thread, unless you plan on hiking in the rain forest, what ever your Doctor advises should be OK. Someone also said that DCL told them no passports needed, but I doubt that DCL has even gotten that far in their own PC transit planning.

I think the Hep A shots (Well all Hep shots are good to have) are especially good to have.
We got them last year. They're done over a period of time so good to start early and get it out of the way.
I had some of the shots from a while back but the Hep A shots were new to me so got those when we went to the Caribbean.

Our DD gets them at school but when she is older. We got her innoculations (there is a child's dosage) and it gives us a bit of piece of mind knowing you have the protection.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Grumbo,

You let me down buddy!! When I proof read my post I thought I had really set myself up for a comment on "shots" (like the kind that are poured from a bottle!).

Then I saw that you had responded and I was certain you'd have a cutesy reply, only to see you were being serious!! What a let down, my friend. Are you feeling well today?

I think anyone not willing to get the shots (needles) [like my DH] needed for the cruise, may need some shots (the other kind) to deal with the illness they encounter.:(

Sorry EG :)
Trying to get a lot of work caught up as I'm off tomorrow then in on Friday and then start a few days of holidays so didn't catch that one ;)

The shots are a good "insurance" if you will. One of the biggest outbreaks recently of Hep A was in Georgia. In my previous job I used to deal with alot of bio hazard stuff and I was/am very cognizant of being safe rather than sorry. One of the guys I worked with ended up with Hep from dealing with a person at work. Poor guy is a shell of the person he was and had to fight for years for them to finally admit that it was work related

Canada Day tomorrow for us (Similar to your July 4th) so a National Holiday.

Cheers,
Grumbo

The only "Shots" I'll be getting are Tequilla Shots!

I talked with our Doc and he says no unless we head into the Rainforest!

Read about Hepatitis A Scratch :)
Don't need no rainforest for that.
Unsanitary handling of food is the biggie with that.
Anyway to each his/her own.

Betwen work booked our day tour of San Francisco and Alcatraz for next month. Starting to get excited about this trip. Should be great :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

I was laughing so much I had tears! Thanks guys!

I am not aware of any shots that need to be had for this trip.

I'd love to be able to sit down and read a book again. When do I get to do that? DD is 21 months.

I'm up for the book exchange. I read a lot and I usually travel with a bag-o-books. That only works when we drive. This is a flying trip so any new reading material will be appreciated.

I already spoke to the family MD about shots. His answer was that unless we were worried about the food handling on the ship. Or we planned to hike in rain forests or eat on shore we didn't need any shots. Good thing, DH doesn't like shots , ( the ones with needles attached) but then I don't know anyone who does.

Denine-- some time in the next century. At 21 monthes the only reading time is during naps. And that is usually the time there are vital chores that must be done. You might get lucky in around 5 years, they begin to read by themselves.

:cat: Talk to you all later.

Oops I forgot. I wanted to make sure the Dis meet is still on for July 31 st. too. I for got to put that in my last post.
Now I am off to get ready for work. Later.

Hopefully we'll still have the meet on July 31st. I'm on vacation this week so I'll try to post on the thread next week. I can't really do a lot because I have a lot going on in July so it may just be a plain old vanilla lunch get together.

Count me in for the book-exchange too! I hate carrying too many paperbacks with me but I hate to be without a book to read. Went through three on our last trip!

Kathy - I'm interested in the "repo-swap" as well. Please provide details how it would/should work. DD (now 8) is very "up" for anything to do with this cruise.

I really need to read the "who's cruising" list again to get her some e-mail pals now that she's out of school for the summer.

The swap would work like the other swaps but with a theme of cruise-related items. What happens is people sign up by sending the organizer a PM with their name and address and if children are involved the ages of the kids too. Then the names are randomly shuffled and given out. There is a deadline for sending out the gifts and there will be a monitary limit too. What you put in your box is completely up to you but it should be cruise related stuff such as a hat, some kind of organizing thingie, sunscreen, or anything you think your exchangee would find useful on the cruise. I was thinking of maybe a $15 or $20 spending limit.

I think Ivanova should start off with the swap. Hmmm 35 people at $20 a piece :)
Is this U.S. or Canadian funds we're talking here. If it is U.S. may have to take out a second mortgage with the Canadian peso :)

I'm in... Is this a surprise thing or can I say I'm putting in 2 bottles of Zinfandel.

Cheers,
Grumbo
