Sorry, Melinda. I've been searching for your EAYOR list, but no luck so far. I have to leave to pick up Lara and her friend from dance now, but I'll keep searching when I get back if you haven't found it!

Well don't forget that Roy Disney will be cruising with us so i would imagine they will have some kind of special Farewell/ceremonies. Let's hope!! I do know that the port in LA is not as lavish as PC...

Has anyone ever use SPACE BAGS for packing?...(the vacuum kind)
I saw that Ad on TV last night and gave me an  Does it really really worked? The only thing i worry is that how the heck can i vacuum the bags going home?? Think the stateroom host will let me borrow one of his??

I used these bags in October. You can't believe how much extra room you get in the suitcases. The only bad thing is the weight limit from the airlines. You get the extra space, but can't really use it because of that. It did make it a lot easier to pack though. We didn't use the vaccuum coming home, we just rolled up the bags with the valve open, and it worked almost the same way. I'm using them again for this cruise.

Reneé

Edited to add - I bought our bags at Costco. They're the ones that you can either use the vaccuum or roll up to get the air out.

Melinda - on the linked dining list - can you put Sandygirl and I in one line- we have linked our ressies together through DCL and still want to sit near the rest of the early dining fools.

Thanks
Ginny

Damn. You see, I get a nice camera and now everyone has to be a follower! Geesh! Not a moment of peace around here. :D

Congrats on the new camera, Lou. It's a real beauty, huh? The only problem is that I want more and more accessories to go with it. What's your equipment bag look like so far?

Mine:

D70 (duh!)
Kit lens
SB-600
Nikkor 50mm 1.8 (an excellent lens for only $100!)
Nikon remote

I'm looking to buy a nice tripod next. Have to make up my mind on which one I want. I also would love to have the Nikkor 60 or 105mm macro, the 70-300 AE lens, and the 10.5mm fisheye. I'm dreamin' though. I'll probably get one or two on my list before the cruise.

Oh well! It's fun!

Sounds like we should make the Nikon D70 the offical camera of the Panama Cruise :smooth:

My kit is still in its infancy, I just started with the basics

D70 (same duh)
Nikor 18-70mm (kit lens)
Tamrac Expedition Backpak
Quantary Polarizer Filter
1 GB Lexar 80x Flashcard

I am new to the camera stuff, so I not sure which is the lens I want, but I am looking for a wide angle and telephot lens. Like you I am planning on completing my collection before the cruise.

Good Idea! Thanks, Ginny.

Hi all. I have a tough time keeping up with this thread. I go off to work eat dinner and discover 9 pages of interesting chat.

Darlene what time are you arriving at John Wayne on the 19th? We are coming in there sometime that day too. And going to HoJo.

Grumbo Deltal had better be flying or there are going to be some very upset people. The idea of you firing up the mini van and driving is interesting. Who were you planning on having drive from California to Florida. Perhaps the family dog?

Melinda, I used a vaccuum bag on our first cruise. It was the Halloween cruise and I took my Maleficent costume. Our room hostess very kindly let me use her vaccuum on the last night to suck out the air and get it all back into the suitcase. Your suitcase will be heavy. But if you planned on taking 50 pounds it will still be 50 pounds. It might actually be lighter because all the air is gone.
By the way are your kids in the Bethlehem Area School District? I wondered because our daughter works in the Easton Middle School and they got out early today. We don't seem to be getting all the stuff they were forecasting at least so far.

Hey maybe we could hold the wine tasting in lou.iannucci's suite.

Cool cool!

I also purchased a small backpack to carry the equipment. Only problem is, I've already outgrown the dang thing! :) I was able to get a really good deal on a Hoya polarizer filter in Grand Cayman. That's where I got the SB-600 too. Other than that, I have a few close-up filters (until I can get my nice true macro lense) and that's it. :(

Check out DPReview sometime. They have a whole forum on the D70. Great info.

Yes, my kids are in a private school in Bethlehem, but they utilized Easton School Buses. yeah can you believe so many schools in PA had early dismissal?? that was riducluous!! Good thing i only work in the mornings. I worked for NJ school and they didn't have any early dismissal. But i was home by the time my kids got out, thank goodness. My kids are hoping for delay or no school tomorrow but it doesn't look like anything is happening here other than flurries a few hours ago!! maybe sleet overnight...We will see what happens tomorrow. What does your daughter do in the Middle school?? I used to be a Nurse sub there.

Sorry, ESTELLE, we are flying in on 8/18. We could have hitched a ride together.

Darlene

My DD has a social studies test tomorrow and i helped her studied. Guess on what??
One of them is The Panama Canal!! Perfect timing...

She had learned that France attempted to build the canal back in 1881, but 9 years later, after loss of millions of dollars, and thousands of workers died from Yellow Fever and Malaria, the French gave up.

Did you know at that time Panama was part of Columbia?

In 1902, the United States stepped in. Pres. T Roosevelt offered 10 million dollars to Columbia for a 10 mile wide strip of land across Panama. Colombia refused. In 1903, the USA helped a group of people in Panama rebel against Columbia. After Panama won its independence, it accepted Pres. Roosevelt offer.

This Doctor (William Gorgas) discovered that it was the mosquitoes that was carrying the germs that caused those diseases in the French workers.. Once that pests and disease was under control, work on the canal began. George W Goethals was the engineer in charge of the project. Dynamites and steam shovels were used to blast and dig through the mountains. They completed the canal in August 1914, 5 months ahead of schedule. It had now shorten a trip from NYC to San Francisco by 8,000 miles.

I was going to put this on the Children's fools thread but i wasn't sure if that is still going on...

Oh by the way, Thanks Renee, about the Space Bags tips. I wll def look into that!!

Barbara, the streets of L.A. will be littered with the drunken remains of the sisterhood. Not that we don't love you guys, but our party at H.I.S.P. is by invitation only!! We already have the main hall reserved and there will be food and entertainment. Grumbo and Jazzman do this crazy ventriloquist act and AuntyBrat and Ivanover have put together a scene from 101 Dalmations...Mark

Not fair, Mark!!! The Children's thread will pick up again once all the kids' are back in their routines after all the holidays! Lara was asking about it tonight, but I limit her computer time to weekends, when we're not busy with other things.

The "Sisters in WaterWorld" thread is not relevant to you, unless you also want to pick up some good health and weight management tips to look good in a two-piece bathing suit by cruise time! (If you are planning to wear a nice two-piece, I'll be sure to have one of the D70's available to capture the moment!)
