The size of the wave depends on the amount of water displaced by the earthquake. In the deep ocean, the wave is nearly unnoticeable by ships, but as it approaches the shallower coastline, the wave gets "pushed up" to its full height. A wave 20 feet high in an ocean that's 5000 feet deep isn't a problem, but when it reaches the shoreline where the depth becomes zero, the wave is still 20 feet high. It's not likely to happen, but if you do feel a very strong earthquake, head to higher ground.

And, here is a website with a simulation too - interesting.

Hello Jennifer!

I just noticed the tag under your user name! How come the name change?

Ever since they "updated" the boards, I haven't been able to sign on. I tried for a month to have DisBoards fix it. They never returned any of my 7 emails. So I just made a new name. I like this one better anyway.

DH is specifically looking for a TAG watch (as seen on Amazon: Don't know if TAG watches are readily available in Curacao or not, but that's what he'll be looking for there.

That is a very expensive watch! :earseek:

Ah, I see. I like it better too!

No time to catch up. I did really good and stayed off the boards for 4 days! I feel like I was on vacation from work and now have to get back to it, yuk!!!

I hope you all had a joy filled holiday. I will be getting the chat schedule set up, Time will be varied so as to accomodated those in time zomes other than my current on (I believe it's Eastern Day Light). More details to follow!

Hope everyone had a great holiday and got everything they wanted. We had about 2 inches of snow yesterday so we were outside at 8:30 am playing in it with Haley. Good thing since it was almost gone by 3 pm. Haley got so many toys, she didn't know what to play with. So far the ones that are being played with the most are the Dora The Explorer Talking House and VideoNow Jr. Too bad VideoNow doesn't have any Mickey shows for it yet since all she wants to watch is Mickey from the time she wakes up to the time she goes to bed! I really wish they made more movies with him in them. The good thing is that I preordered a Mickey DVD that's coming out the beginning of January that is all Mickey. I'm happy since I'm starting to know the ones she has by heart.

Oh well, back to work. I took yesterday off so I'd have an extended weekend, and now I have to get back to it. Good thing is that I'm working from home today it won't be too bad.

While I'm still waiting to find out if DH can get off from work to go on this cruise, 95% sure he can. I thought I would start looking into airlines and fares.

What airport would be best to fly into from BWI, we will be staying the night before at the Holiday Inn.

I did read where I would have to contact Janis for transportation to the terminal, thank you ivanova for that info.

I've found really good rates flying into LAX. I don't really know where that is location-wise in relation to where we will be staying (Howard Johnson) or the Holiday Inn though.

Renee': Haley is adorable as always, my dd has that knit cap too - gotta love Tink! Glad you had the day off yesterday to enjoy the snow with her!

Marsha: Glad you enjoyed your days off! Thanks for arranging the "chat" too!

Ginger: The Long Beach airport would be the closest to fly in to. It is the smallest. Don't know if they have flights here from your airport though. LAX is the next closest. Some people hate it, but we are local and we fly out of there for good fares when we cannot fly out of Long Beach (we live five minutes from the L.B. airport). We do not find LAX to be bad, but we have our routine. John Wayne (Orange County) is the next furthest out, is smaller, and easy to maneuver with a rental car. You should be fine getting a shuttle from LAX to San Pedro. Some are even coming in to Ontario, CA. It is about a one-hour drive to San Pedro from here and is the furthest away. Traffic from any of these other than the Long Beach airport should be a factor to consider. It will be the worst during the morning and afternoon/evening work commutes, with Friday traffic being the very worst. The shuttle from the L.B. airport would most likely take the streets to San Pedro, not the freeways. It's an easy drive, and a fun one via the streets.

Best wishes with your planning, and hope your dh gets to go on the cruise with you, looks very good that it will happen!!

WhooHoo Susan, that is QUITE a watch!!!!!!! Talk about some serious shopping, lol!!!

Have a wonderful time ringing in the new year with your DCL family and friends...Now, that's the way to begin 2005!!!

Barbara :)

Good afternoon!! Got my dreaded sinus problem again!! :headache: After i posted last night, i crashed. Guess the crazy weekend got to me too!! Slept in late today since my Bob was off from work, thank goodness.

Barbara, Thanks so much for the info on Tusmini. Although on the news, it did said the West Coast is vulnerable to get one!! :scared1: But i won't get myself crazy here. Hope you are OK over by you...I see there are storms brewing in your area!!

I see we got a lot of newbies here...Welcome aboard!! :cheer2:

Mark, haven't see you around awhile. I am sure you are getting excited for your upcoming trip.

Arlene, Girlfriend, Hope you are enjoying your week!
Renee, looks like you got more snow than we got!! Haley is cute!!

What are everyone plans for the New Year Eve?? I think we are just going to stay home and have a quiet evening. I know my bro and sis inlaw are having something going on, but for some reason, i just wanted to relax this time.. Maybe it has something to do with me going back to the work force starting Monday. ::yes:: LOL!!!

I wasn't going to bring this up but am going to now since i need to express my concerns and you guys are such honest and wonderful folks ...I just posted a post on the 10 day cruise asking them if they would take a 10 day cruise again.
Gotta be honest with you all here...
I had some family members and friends asking me why i am taking the 14 day repo on the "Disney" ship whereas i could be taking the Princess Cruise that has Rock climbing, Ice skating rink, golf on deck etc....Now my answer of course, is because it is "Disney" and we are going thru the Panama and have different excursions and such..
Now they do have a point.. what are we are going to do on Sea Days, since we have so many of those days and don't have many amenties as the other big Cruise lines... The Disney ship is not that big and to be on the 14 days IS a long time but i do hope that Disney has major events taking place. I do plan to relax on some of those days but at the same time, hope we are not going to be "bored". Other than of course, to meet all of you, which would be a blast, I just hope that Disney has the itenary full for the 2 weeks.
I mean just to give one example, on the recent 10 days cruise, they posted that they gave out towel again for the CC members. I thought because it was a "special" cruise, Disney should have given a special CC gift other than a typcial towel gift which you can get on a regular Disney cruise.. In others words, i guess what i am trying to say is that i expect to be a special cruise other than a typical week cruise and the repo should NOT be a typical cruise. (Please forgive my for my spelling...) Am i the only one with this concern??

The watch - that's why DH will be looking for it in Curacao, I won't let him spend that much $$ stateside for a stupid watch, so he'd better get a KILLER deal on it

As for what we'll do on sea days - I plan on SLEEPING a LOT, watching movies, participating in any kind of games/activites (like Match your Mate, etc) that they might have, reading a LOT on our balcony or on deck (4 or 9), maybe the occasional swim in the pool (in 2 cruises I have NEVER been in one of the ship's pools :guilty: ) I really don't think we'll be "bored." :)

To the poster who thinks you will be bored on the 14 day cruise. I don't think you will be bored. There will be plenty of things for you to do. I am sure when it gets closer they will announce some details.

Happy Holidays Shipmates!

Christmas is over and now it is time to put away the tree. Why is it always harder to put it away than put it up?

Santa was very good to me. I asked for Disney dollars so I could apply them on the ship onboard credit and that is what I got. Now I get to have Christmas all over again on the cruise. Double Christmas. Can it get any better?

The weather held out for us but it sounds like you easterners got hit pretty hard.

Wishing you all the happiness that the New Year has to offer.
