Hi Jazzman,

Sorry I didn't respond sooner about how many in my family. We were out of town for Christmas and just returned home.

Here is the correct head count: 10

2 for DCL~Dreamer: Claire (me) and DH Bob

3 for Tigger24: Bernadette (our DD) and her DH Jon, and their DD Hailey

5 for my sister and her family who are also sailing with us; they are:

Bernadette and Dave, and their 3 children:
DD Courtney (age 17)
DD Erin (age 16)
DS Patrick (age 8)

We will all be staying at the Holiday Inn in San Pedro, and will also contact them to be put on the list for the shuttle from the hotel to the pier. E-mail me if you need any further information.

Thank you everyone for all the work you have done to organize this. I lam looking forward to meeting all of you in August.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, and wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Claire
Claire,

If you booked the HI room through the TA (Janis) you need to contact her about the shuttle ressie - not the hotel. If you booked directly with the hotel, then you do need to contact them in early August for your shuttle ressie.

Hi Darlene. Yes, I am on both cruises. Glad to meet you too! :D

Hi Mark . I would be very interested in an onboard meet. How do I get invited? I wouldn't want to be a party crasher. :cool1: :rockband: :rockband: :rockband:

The best thing about the meet is that if you know about it, you're invited!

:earboy2:

OK - think I have it straight now. Actually you were originally listed under the name tiggercg - I have corrected that. Grumbo, I'll mail you an update in a bit. Headcount is 470.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanza to everyone here (if I left out your holiday wish, please forgive me!) Glad to hear everyone had a great holiday(s). I was very excited to get the "Cooking with Mickey and his Friends" cookbook, which has recipes from the four WDW parks, WDW resorts, DL and DCL (yes, including the chocolate souffle' from Palo!). I also got a new chef's knife (the same one Rachel Ray uses on "30-Minute Meals"), so I can't wait to get chopping and cooking. My DH is the greatest!

Well, we're almost in the year of the great repo cruise and I'm getting antsy, I don't know about you guys.

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

Eileen

Isn't that a great book Eileen? It's relatively new and it is a great addition to the Disney cook book line.

Eileen,

I'm right there with you - ants in the pants and all. :smooth:

We're hosting NYE this year at our house, and several of our fellow cruisers will be joining us as we ring in "The Year of the Cruise to End All Cruises." :teeth:

Just think, 33 weeks from NYE we'll all be partyin' as we anticipate boarding the ship the next day.

Guess I'm the only one haunting the boards today... :guilty:

I was surfing the Curacao Tourist Board's website and came upon some interesting facts:

Did you know that August and September are the third and fourth slowest months for cruise ship calls to Curacao? Which month sees the most calls? Believe it or not, January.

Did you know that cruise passengers from the U.S. (n=2783) spent an average of $79.75 during their port visit in Curacao in 2002? Canadians (n=381) spent an average of $65.90 while tourists from the United Kingdom (n=342) spent an average of $49.55.

Did you know, of the average $79.75 spent by U.S. cruise visitors, the two largest expenditure categories are Jewlery (32%) and Clothing (18.70%).

Did you know that the top three slots for USA arrivals by state of origin break down as follows (Jan. - Oct of 2004):

New York 4985
Florida 4858
Virginia 1075

Wyoming and Alaska are the only two states to report 0 visitors to Curacao YTD.

Well, I thought it was pretty cool. :earboy2:

I think it's pretty cool info as well. Thanks for posting it. Yes, it's slow here. Must be the post-Xmas lag (or just plain exhaustion) setting in. Wooohoooo, it's almost 2005 !!!! :cool1:

I agree - cool info. :D

I'm not surprised that January is the busiest month for cruises stops ... the northern hemisphere winter season would be busy in the Caribbean (for stops south of the Tropic of Cancer) where the weather is soooo much nicer than it is "up north." :)

And somehow, I think DH will be spending a LOT more than $79.75 in Curacao :( (he'll be hunting for a watch, an EXPENSIVE watch )

Hello guys...back home...Had enough family for awhile...need the peace and quiet...LOL!! Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

There was a big discussing in the family today about Tsumini and were watching the news about it it. Those poor people. I was wondering what happens if there was a cruise ship around where it is impacted. I suddenly got a lil' nervous thinking about being on the ship for 2 weeks. Ya never know what could happen out on sea. Mexico has lots of earthquakes. Does anyone know if the big ships can handle it?? or we will ended up like the Poseidian Adventure??? Bob said if i am that nervous about it, we can cancel, but hey, i am not that extreme, but i am curious however.

I was just thinking that the Christmas cruisers should be home soon. Maybe that will give us a little insight into our cruise as far as activities and entertainment.

That is very interesting information Kmiles! Well, with our ship going during their slow months, hopefully there won't be so many "tourists" running about. ;)

Jennifer

Here's more:

Stay-over tourists (those tourists who stayed at least one night) spent an estimated $263.7 million dollars (U.S.) in 2003.

Compare that to the $19.57 million (U.S.) cruise tourists spent in 2003.

And, in 2003 Curacao had 7,379 "day-trippers" who spent $0.74 million (U.S.).

Overall, 508,152 tourists visited Curacao in 2003. [Compare that to the more than 15,000,000 people who visited the Magic Kingdom in 2004! Evenly divided among all days of the year that rounds out to 41,000 people per day. At that rate, it would only take 12 days to reach the yearly tourist attendance of Curacao!]

***Thanks kmiles for the PC info. - COOL!!!!!!!

Susan, what kind of watches should we be looking for in Curacao?! ;)

Welcome back Mel!!! I was talking to dh about this as well. He reminded me that our Pacific oceans around here (Southern CA and Mexico) do not have the same seismic activity or plates found in Asia, and such a phenomenon would not occur. He had talked with his sis about this too (she's an oceanographer). In addition, the tsunami is a ripple whose force hits on the land and is below surface of the ocean. The only place a ship would have a problem is in a port, not in the ocean itself. The likelihood of this happening in our ports is extremely slim to nil. Feel better? I wasn't too worried either, but admittedly I did feel better after being reassured by dh!

Glad to have you back! LooneyHOODs prepare for more battles our fearless leader is "home" - LOL!!!

Hugs,

Barbara

The size of the wave depends on the amount of water displaced by the earthquake. In the deep ocean, the wave is nearly unnoticeable by ships, but as it approaches the shallower coastline, the wave gets "pushed up" to its full height. A wave 20 feet high in an ocean that's 5000 feet deep isn't a problem, but when it reaches the shoreline where the depth becomes zero, the wave is still 20 feet high. It's not likely to happen, but if you do feel a very strong earthquake, head to higher ground.

The Weekly Cruise Highlight (WCH) is up and running! A really cool video on Curacao. (It's about 20 min.)

Thank YOU!
