August 20, 2005 - L.A. to Port Canaveral - Eastbound Repo Cruise - The SHIP OF FOOLS Part 2

Last night, my hard drive crashed :badpc: and this morning I got on the phone and called Gateway. My new PC will be here around 12/16. Luckily, I work from home so I have a work PC home that I can use a little. I will be going through withdrawal since Lenny says "I live on these boards." I'm just hoping I can boot the thing up enough so I can get all my files and and bookmarks off it. We'll see what happens tonight. Wish me luck.

Man, you miss a day or 2 any you have hours of reading to do. At least it is better than doing the Fools laundry!

Gotta figure out how to hang our Mickey wreaths on our new house.

:cat:

Renee sorry about your hard drive. Hope it all gets fixed real soon. :badpc:

Grumbo didn't you mean MegaSurferMelinda?

I must be truely strange. I read that quote and LOL. Alligators gotta eat too you know. Maybe she got there in time to rescue one of the kids. If not easy come easy go. I really need this vacation. Now I'm all for feeding kids to alligators.

Okay! I need some local California information.

I need advice of a good and reputable towncar company. We will arrive very late Aug. 19th and will be staying at the San Pedro HI. We would prefer not to use Super Shuttle or rent a car for a one way transfer @ midnight.

We are using FL tours for our December trip and I would like a towncar service that is comparable for our LAX transfer. Advise please! :chat:

We are arriving on the 19th also and staying at the H.I. San Pedro as well. We'll keep the light on for you! Why would you not want Super Shuttle? I was thinking about using them and would reconsider for good reasons.

Melinda, Don't go to any place expensive this time. This bulimia kick you're on is ridiculous. Can't you just diet like the rest of us!!

Popping in to say that I just booked our return flight. We are flying back to Philly for $120pp on a non-stop with USAir. I think that is a great price. We are flying in on Thursday afternoon and we hope to hang out with some friends we met on our last cruise who are also going on this cruise. I'm sure they will pop in and say hello sometime.

Regarding CA transportation:

Dh has taken Super Shuttle for business trips a couple of times. Can be a loonnnggg trip, make many stops for others and do not always take direct routes. He refuses to use them anymore, would rather park his car at the airport.

Bob (izzinmac) asked the HoJo's rep. who has been very helpful for a recommendation. Reps. name is Willie Simpson. He highly recommends:

http://www.karmel.com/

They will only make one stop which is located on the way, and may not even do this.

As we drive ourselves locally, we do not have a need for shuttles often, so this is the closest info. I have personally.

Not sure if we were able to do this through the TA ... since we "live local" we personally aren't concerned with the transfer from LAX to the hotel :) We just need to figure out how to get from LAX to the port AFTER the cruise to pick up our car.

Super Shuttle is a lot like Mears in FLorida. The Super Shuttle that picks up at LAX airport does not take reservations. So, you get all your baggage and find their pick up area. Put your name on a list. Wait for your ride (we have waited an hour before and vowed never again!). Then you go where ever they need to drop off. I figure when we arrive at midnight Super Shuttle is the LAST thing I want to deal with. Plus, they charge $17 per person ($51 for our family of 3). Not a good deal!

Andrew,

Thanks! The shuttle looks like something we might be interested in. I will call for rates in the morning.

I looked on their web sight and called them directly about the Fly and Cruise deal. I have to say the Group rate deal we are getting through Janice is better. We are getting $89 plus breakfast and transfers to the ship for $3.00 per person.

The $139 deal includes champagne or wine I won't be wanting at midnight. Breakfast will be wanted! Plus, you have to pay an extra $12 per child for transfers with the $139 deal.

Thanks for the shuttle information. I have heard of Karmel. I will contact them tomorrow as well.

Great rate for Alaskan from Seattle to LAX! DS 13 and dh have traveled via this round trip to see family in WA. The non-stop was very nice.

Scratch, happy belated bday to your dear mother!

Susan, I have an e-mail in to the San Pedro Holiday Inn to see if they'll give transfers back to the hotel from LAX following our return from this cruise (for a fee of course). I'll let you know what I find out. May ask a neighbor to drive us in & back...family is too far away.

Renee' - Sorry to hear about your hard drive, that is crummy!!! Good luck with your recovery, and hope your new one arrives soon so you can keep up properly with the board! ;)

Melinda, hope you all had a fun evening and no one got sick tonight! And, hope you are getting caught up on your sleep too night owl!

Good night!

Let us know - although a transfer back to the hotel won't work for us - we'll need a shuttle/transfer directly to the port, where the car will actually be parked (since we won't be able to park for two weeks at the Holiday Inn)
