August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

Both Kim and I tried in vain to contact Le Meridien to figure out getting a car to pick us up separately to take us from the airport to the hotel, also to get a car from the hotel to the port, but our efforts were for nothing. All we (I think I was the only one who heard anything) heard was that it was cheaper to take a taxi than get a car to take us. So, I think we'll be taking a taxi from the airport and a taxi to the port.

We are at le meridien as well. Transport to pier is 37E for up to 4. I believe it is 66E. On the actual le Meriden barcelona site there is a link for transport. I emailed from that page and got a response in less than 2 days. A cab is probably cheaper, but knowing there is a car waiting for you is kind of nice

Waiting at the airport? Is that what you mean? Just read the fine print. If your flight is delayed, they start to charge more....

Ellen,
Yes i've lived here all my life. I remember (too fondly) Custom Bakers very well. They had the best cheese cake, and boston cream pie... As far as Panchos goes... We eat there all the time, fantastic Tex, Mex... Are you guys going early? We're leaving on the 13th., and spending 4 nights in Barcelona... Looking forward to meeting you all...

Mike

Hi Mike, our favorite Custom cake was the layer cake. thanks for the Panchos recommendation....we'll definitely have to try eating there. We leave around 5pm on the 17th on a direct flight getting into barcelona about 8am on the 18th. we arranged disney transfers. i wonder if they will take us to the port so early. we fly home on the 29th.

Since you all are talking about transports to/from ship- I thought I would say this again- I am looking at a day trip in Barcelona, full tour of the city in a private van, transfer to-from the port to hotel (city center) and it's 59 euro pp if we can get 4 more people, 69 euro pp if we can get two more people. :) THey will hold our luggage until check in. I figured it was a good way to see the city and get to our hotel room at the same time! If you are leaving from BCN that evening it would work as well bc we can get you back to the aerobus stop at whatever time the tour is over. I would guess 2pm or so.

Does anyone know how much a taxi would run you from the port to the city center- like Catalunya?

The cost for us in June (3 people), in a taxi (which we got when we got off the plane), was around 35 euros. Our hotel was probably a little further over than Placa Catalyuna.

Below is the company we used to transfer our group to the port last time and who have quoted the best price this time for the 9 of us.

http://www.barcelona-airport-transfers.com/

If you visit the site, you can put in your numbers and dates etc., to get a quote so it will give an idea of price. Bear in mind this isn't a taxi service, but someone who will meet and greet. I have emailed them twice and they got back to me within a few hours (don't forget your time difference!);)

Taxi from Port to Catalyuna is around 30 euros. The Novotel told us between 30/40 euros and that is slightly further on from Catalyuna. Be aware that some taxi companies charge for bags and extra people.

Adsmama, we are flying back to the UK the same day we come in.

Not ignoring you. We plan on going directly to our hotel when we arrive in BCN the morning of the 17th and when we disembark on the 28th and leave our luggage with them until check in . We're not sure what we want to do beyond that. DH has medication and stuff that he doesn't want sitting in a car all day.

did day 2 of week 4 of c25k today... was way too humid for me this morning. went out later than usual as Darren away on business so had to wait until camp bus left. i unfortunately couldn't finish the final 5 min run today... hopefully fri is better!

That is awesome Lori. I have been catching up on posts and it seems you are really doing awesome on this training program....My intention this summer was to be at the gym most days. Unfortunately that did not happen. I am hoping over the next month I can get back there and make sure I am in shape for the trip to handle all the walking.:goodvibes

Hi Adsmama,

We're travelling bac to the UK straight from the ship to I'm afraid.

Kate,

Which flight are you on? We are flying back Monarch to Manchester. Outward we are flying Easy Jet to Liverpool.

I'm so impressed with all of you are are running, no willpower here, though must improve:-)

Hi Adsmama -

My crew is looking forward to the Hop on/off bus for Sat, so I think we're sticking with that. Also, we're paying for a ton of tours in the other ports and quite frankly will probably be tapped out by the time we reach Barcelona......

Flying out Monarch day before OH didn't want to risk Easyjet although I have never had problems with them. Returning 28th again Monarch 12.10. Of you are same flight maybe we should think about sharing transport?!

We need to be off early as poss. For check in. But I don't think it will be too tight. Did you do the same last time?

Did week 4 day 2 and can't believe I did it!!! Didn't walk once! Five lots of four mins with one min.between. I stayed with my plan Lori as yours looked harder! Been on a high all day! We are fantastic!!

Hi Kate,

Yes we're on the same flight back. We've booked DCL transfers this time, primarily because I got spooked about the whole taxi carseat regulations and panicked about being stuck in the airport rather than enjoying the holiday. We flew through virgin with easy jet last time from and back to Stanstead as I was working in London the day before we flew - they organised the transfers - diaster but the DCL ones seemed very efficient. Fingers crossed for no flight problems, am panicking already that the ash cloud will surface at the wrong moment:-)

Is the volcano still erupting? Coverage here has completely disappeared on that topic.

Ok, I have to admit that I've been spending so much time planning the other aspects of our trip that I left the details of Barcelona for last. I'm clueless as to where things are and the sections.

Here's the address of my hotel"
Sancho de Ávila, 32-34
08018 Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain

Can someone give me some indication where I am? I know street wise but don't know how that relates to Las Ramblas etc. I also know that I am not that far from the port.

Hi MinnieDiva,

No -coverage has disappeared here too:-) Though I know some people had a problem on our May cruise with it. I'm sure it will be fine. I'm just a paranoid type of person.

Just trying to make my final decisions on FE gifts for the kids. Grown ups are sorted:-) Just thought I'd check if there was anything that people didn't want bringing? Does anyone's children have allergies etc? Just thought I'd try to cover all bases.

Just google it and you'll see a map of where you are. I did the address to the address of my hotel on Las Ramblas and it's 4 mi away and a 10 min car ride.

Here is a map again from the hop on/off bus in Barcelona. It looks like you guys are about a 5 min walk from the closest stop on the other side of the Parc de la Ciutudella.

I haven't figured out how we are getting to our hotel yet. I would assume since we get in at 9:15am it will be too early to check in, but I'd like to go there and leave my luggage. We're at Porta Marina, it's on Sancho de Avila by Avinguida Meridiana, we're a 20 minute walk from the Olympic Village, and 5 from the city center. I think had I waited, I would have booked the Novotel, but months ago, when we were getting so excited and booking hotels, we were able to get a good price here on 1800hotels.com so we booked and paid for it, now we're kind of stuck. It was one of the few with family rooms.

Susan, what are you guys doing?

Mindy,
We are at The Royal Ramblas. I think my plan is to just take a cab from the airport and drop our luggage as well. I tried to book the pre-cruise package at that hotel but it kept saying here were not rooms available for that package. That would have given us early check in. I am hoping that we are not too exhausted and do some touring. I originallly thought we would hire a car but DH works with someone whose fiance is from Barcelona and assured him that we could just take a cab. The only thing is I think they charge you extra depending on your luggage.

Stacey- I think I saw you were staying there too?
