August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

DH placed his order today for his tux! I have my dress, but I really need to take up the hem a bit.

Now I need to start to work on pirate regalia! pirate:

I"m so glad you're going to get dressed up...it will make it so much more fun. I'm wearing a short cocktail dress and DH is ordering a tux as soon as he goes and gets measured. As for pirate regalia...I may have to do without...if DD or DS sees us packing that, then the gig is up and I so don't want them to know until they see the ship. I've kept a secret this long...we're in the home stretch.

So I was practicing for the cruise tonight....both my kids were invited to a sleep over party on the same night...how lucky can I get...and it's the weekend before my bday. DH and I went for an adults only dinner at a local steakhouse...it was yummy...I had 2 glasses of wine...got a little tipsy.....I could get used to this...LOL :cool1::cool1:

I'm going to make DD's first, but I have patterns for DH and I if I have time. We'll be flip-flop wearing pirates if I actually get around to it!

I was going to take a 2-piece set for a semi-formal outfit but it's too big....now I have to go shopping!! White House, Black Market here I come!!

A restaurant in Raritan called Char. It's about a year or so old and we always pass it on the road, so we tried it. Very expensive, but good.

Hi Adsmama,

We only did buses - so couldn't have had a car seat anyway - as the ones we went on didn't have seat belts. I couldn't say for certain the rules in Italy and Spain, but in the UK children are allowed to travel in taxis without a car seat, so I'm guessing the rules in Spain and Italy are similar. I guess it depends how far you're planning to travel in taxis and how comfortable you'd feel about your little one not being in a car seat. Do Disney have any you could hire - I know they have strollers?

Take Care
Vicky

In Spain and Italy it is actually a law that is enforced... of course you can always go for the renegade taxi but not sure about if i want to do that... hence why we are looking into public transport. We'll make it work one way or another we won't have much luggage...

Question-- how is the laundry on the Magic?

They certainly had laundry facilities. I didn't use them myself, but I know that lots of others did and no one said there were any problems. It's much easier for us now as my little girl is 2 so has her own luggage allowance.

In Barcelona there is a fantastic shuttle service from the airport into the centre of town. It costs 5Euro per adult (infants are free) and runs every 5 minute. Basically there is already a bus waiting before the first one leaves. We were very impressed by how efficient it was. We caught it from just outside terminal one (near the left luggage room) as we had our last day in Barcelona - so got the transfer to the airport, left our luggage there - got the bus into town and then went back in the evening for our flight.

There was certainly no expectation that we would have a car seat with us for going on the coaches for excursions.

Does the law definately apply to taxis? Here in the UK car seat are compulsory except in taxis and I know it's also the same in France. I also know of at least 3 families who got taxis from the airport to the cruise terminal and didn't have any problems. Which was my plan for this trip but now I'm wondering whether it would be safer to book transfers.

From what I could see of the cars in Naples, they didn't really do rules - red and green lights meant nothing - it was more a case of everyone do what you like to get to where you to go the fastest.

Good Luck
Vicky

Is the shuttle you are talking about the "aerobus"? I have read on other forums that the law is strict in barcelona. Hopefully the aerobus is easy for us!!!

Yes the shuttle is the aerobus. We didn't get it to the cruise terminal just into the town and back to the airport. It didn't have seatbelts - so there were no issues about car seats.

phhheww...ok great!

Yeah we decided to book a private tour for Naples. We wanted to see Pompeii and amlafi and have a sort of quiet day.

Which tour company are you using? Private tours sure are expensive for just two people!
Lisa

So now that we are on formal night talk I was wondering....

I have a dress that I love that I wore to my bosses black tie wedding but it is a gown (not too formal but an eggplant colored chiffon one that I got a bloomies as a steal). Will I be too dressed up? I also have a black wrap dress cocktail dress that is a bit plainer that I could wear to formal night or Palo. Not sure?Any thoughts?

Lisa we actually splurged and booked an eight hour tour through Disney. I was going to use a tour company but DH freaked out about missing the boat and said he would rather pay a few extra bucks and he was not budging :confused3
Plus we really want a laid back sort of day...only an hour or two in Pompeii and the rest really exploring Amalfi.

My dress is about the same color...a cross between purple and brown that I wore to a black tie event. I have zero idea how to post a pic here, so I'll email you a pic.

I'm taking the opportunity to dress up! Doesn't happen often at all! princess:

Mary,

I would wear what you are most comfortable in. There are some in gowns, some in cocktails dresses and some not dressed up at all.

I will tell you that we're not dressing up. I'm not hauling formal clothing across the Atlantic. I might wear a dress, but that's about it. DH isn't packing a suit and I'm not renting a tux for him or DS. I personally abhor dressing up.

If I had to wear nylons I'd totally be with you, Lori, but with the dresses I have, I don't! Whoooohooooo! I shopped carefully as to avoid them. The last time I wore the dress, the 10 degree weather convinced me that hose might be beneficial, but I think that won't be a problem this time around.

Nylons, what are those??? I haven't worn them since 1998...... and NEVER will again. All of my dresses, I don't wear hose, regardless of the weather... I just freeze.....

hahah I am anti Nylons too lol! Kim that dress is so pretty, formal but simple. Mine is similiar. I think I will bring it because your right, I did buy it and have only worn it once! I will bring the black dress too and if I feel bloated after all the eating in Paris I may have to wear the black dress as it has stretch:drinking1 :rotfl:
