My sister used to work on Carnival ships (for 5 years) and when I told her we were thinking of staying on the ship in Nassau she had a canary and sent me these recommendations.

So the restaurant I was talking about is Café Matisse. Great food, something for everyone in your family (pasta & pizza being a great standby for the munchkins) and decent prices (and a beautiful place with a cute courtyard) and their creme brule is outstanding!!! http://www.cafe-matisse.com/

The dive shop is called Stuart's Cove. It's a great operation, and they really pay attention to safety. They have snorkel trips, but the other thing I was talking about are called Sub-Bahamas. It's spendy, but looks to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Here's the link:

Sis is certified SCUBA and knows THE best dive place at every port...after five years of diving all over the Caribbean I sure hope she does!

I don't know if we will be taking advantage of either recommendation, but I thought I would share the info in case anyone else was interested! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info! The menu looks good.

We're still leaning to staying on board with the exception of maybe a quick shopping excursion...

I'm done with my tests and homework for the week. Now I only have to get through work and class tomorrow and one class on Friday before spring break! :cool1: I think I'm going to make my fish extender over break. I'm not sure if I should sew it or do a no-sew one. :confused3

We are doing VB the wknd before the cruise too! :cool1: We have 2 studios that I booked just a few days after the 7 mo window opened--been on the waitlist to upgrade one to a 1 bd or both to a 2bd ever since! Ugh--no luck yet. At least we have the studios, though it will be a bit crowded with 6-8 people and no full kitchen.

Have you been to VB before? We never have, and I need to scout out some info! How are you getting from VB to the port? I think we are going to rent a car that we pick up at MCO and drop off in PC.

Sending Pixie Dust your way that your wait-list will come through.. We will have to plan a mini-meet for all of us in VB!!

We have been to VB two other times before...We have a car service taking us from VB to the port...

Your going to love VB!! Soo much for the kids to do!!

We have only cruised once with Disney, so we are silver (with 90 day booking).

We are celebrating our 17th anniversary while on the ship (20th) and I really want to do Palo for dinner (and maybe a brunch).

It feels like we are in the minority of cruisers.....do you think there will be any ressies available on the 18th whe booking opens for us?

The kids are 11,8 and 5

at both GC and Coz we have morning excursions that take us to 12-1pm ... all aboard is 4:30 and 6:30 respectively. Also a factor is we have the main (5:45) dinner seating ... I guess I'm looking to fill the afternoons and get back to ship in time for dinner.

For Castaway Cay, we have cabana #3 booked and 1045 parasailing for me and 11 year old - will be first time for that.

Sounds like GREAT plans.......

We went to Sanchos Beach I would not recommend going there!!

I sure hope there will be ressies left, since we won't be gold until after this sailing.

Agreed, although I won't be gold until after our May 2012 sailing! :sad2: I think right now we're thinking we may want to do Palo and Remy. Remy just seems too awesome to pass up! I'll have to discuss it with James before I book it though, just to make sure he definitely wants to do it.

Good Morning Fellow Cruisers!!

Just did my online check-in for our flight!! Tomorrow, at this time we will already be in the air on our way to Florida!!:dance3::banana::yay::cool1::):thumbsup2

Hope and I are feeling ok. But nothing that a little Magic Kingdom can't fix!! Right??!!

I think I am more excited than the kids.....LOL!!!!!!

Make it a MAGICAL DAY everyone!!:wizard::wizard:

Woobie...Check out the family suites at All Star Music, they sleep 6 and you will have 2 bathrooms. Go on Disney's website and put in 5 people and select All Star Music, see if there are any more family suites available.

Ooo. Thank you. I had no idea they had suites. I called last night and PO Riverside was actually cheaper. Still double what I have off-site, though. I need to crunch numbers today. I hate numbers. :rotfl:

The Magic Kingdom fixes everything Kristin! :rotfl: I was thinking I would be able to talk with you before you go (but I thought you went on Saturday) - looks like I will not be chatting with you though because I work late again tonight. Have a totally MAGICAL VACATION and enjoy being in our happy place! :goodvibes

The suites always seem expensive to me. Were there any discounts available for PO Riverside? I hate crunching the numbers as well. I was thrilled when they offered the free dining for after our cruise and that I booked during that time. It is always so hard to accept the price to stay on-site but for our family it is always worth it.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday!
Jen

We are doing VB from the 12th-16th too!! We have also been waitlisted for a 1 or 2bdrm since a couple of days after the 7 month makr. We ended up with 2 garden Inn rroms. Not worried about the kitchen, but I have to do some laundry before we board the ship!

We have been to Vero Beach only once before, very relaxing!! Fun for the kids. We are taking the autotrain from Va. so we will have our own car to drive to the port. I cant wait for this vacation!!!

We stayed at VB last summer for 4 days in a 1BR and fell in love with the place. My DDs (8 and 10) loved the slide - I think they climbed those stairs 100 times while we were there. My older DD and I went on the kayak excursion and had a blast. The water was like a sheet of glass. Beautiful birds were everywhere. And the manatees swam right beside our boat. This year, I've convinced my husband that we all need to take that trip.

When we were there last year, the spa hadn't yet opened. I'm looking forward to giving that a try.

If you're interested in the character breakfast (Saturday), Sunday brunch (which we've heard great things about but missed last year), or the pirate night character dinner on Monday, call the hotel and make reservations. The best time slots can fill up.

The singalong campfire was great, although I came back from it with lots of bug bites in spite of slathering on Deep Woods Off before we went to it. But the smores and the laughs were worth the bug bites.

As you may have guessed, we really enjoyed our stay at Vero and are fully looking forward to it again this year. (We loved it so much that we bought some points there - I'm hoping to rent one of the cottages for an extended family trip one of these years). Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh, and we've rented a car for the week we're there. That turned out to be the cheapest option for us.

See you in Vero!
