August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

I am a little late joining the thread but I wanted to say hi!

This will be my 19th Disney Cruise. My two boys will be sailing with us ages 12 and 10. We are really looking forward to the cruise. We are heading to Seattle first. The Red Sox are in town. We will watch the game and head up via train the next day.

Welcome! My son (12) will be cruising with us. He will be excited to meet someone his age on the ship! We are also stopping in Seattle on Saturday the 13th and taking the train to Vancouver on the 14th. My DH and son may go to the game on Saturday night.

We will be traveling with our 12 yr old nephew. We're flying into Seattle on Saturday, going to the ballgame on Sunday then taking the train Sunday night to up to Vancouver.

We have to make sure to boys get to meet each other. Our nephew is very excited about the trip - but is really looking forward to shooting some baskets on deck!:cool1:

Did you know I have the best Husband ever? It's true, I do!

DH Rich was in San Francisco this past week for work travel. He stayed downtown, just a block from the large Disney Store. You might not recall, but I collect Disney Vinylmation figures. Rich knew I was looking for Fairy Godmother from the Animation series. This series is special because there is a secret code on the bottom that tells you whats inside the windowless box. I previously told him about this trick, but I hadn't gotten a chance to use it yet. Well, before boarding his plane to come home, he called and told me he visited the Disney Store and a very kind CM helped him find just the vinyl I wanted. So now I get to welcome home DH (who I am very excited to see) and Fairy Godmother as well! 3 more hours....

What a sweetie! I can see why you  him.

I have a question, for all those cruisers who remember the "pre-VCR" era. What was your favorite Disney story record? (It's okay to have more than one favorite)

Mine were:

Winnie the Pooh: Story and Songs
The Three Little Pigs
and the record that had The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Peter and the Wolf on it.

Also, does anyone else remember the little 45's that came with storybooks? ("You will turn the page when tinkerbell rings her little bell like this..")

Depending upon how you count it, the FE list closes in 5 or 6 days, so if you "arrh" intereted in joining the pirate group, don't wait! The pirate pirate: group closes at midnight Friday night/Saturday morning. After that date, all FE lists will close completely, but you can feel free to add your name to the night-before lodging list, the seating list, or the day-before cruise meet list at any time.

I sort of remember, althought I have no clue what my favorites were. I think that mine were relpaced with casset tapes pretty quickly. MY kids have several on cd that they love and are played at bed time.

Oh yes, I remember these! I had a whole 45-sized record case full of them. My sister and I listened to them all the time. Cinderella was my favorite.

I have a vague recollection of my next door neighbor checking Winnie the Pooh records out from the library. But we didn't have a 45 player. This was the 80s so I was probably too wrapped up in my Annie and Cabbage Patch Kids records (truly!) to know what I was missing. :headache:

I definitely remember the 45s ... we actually had a Strawberry Shortcake themed record player that we played them on! I can't remember what my favourites were, but the "turn the page when Tinkerbell rings her bell" part I do remember. Like Mrs. Gumdrop, I was probably too wrapped up in my Cabbage Patch Kids!

(Our Cabbage Patch Kids ended up being stored in the cedar chest - between my sister and I, we had six (three boys and three girls). Just recently my three toddler nephews discovered them and have adopted the boys as their "babies". They also occasionally watch Strawberry Shortcake on Playhouse Disney (Disney Junior) ... it's strange how things come back around ... even Care Bears!)

Mellers ... I've decided not to join a FE group because there is a chance we won't be able to cruise afterall. My fiercely independent, just turned 88-years-old grandmother has experienced some major medical setbacks since March. As a result she has lost all mobility and is hospitalized; she has been classified as "end-stage" with no real timeframe given. My mother also has medical power of attorney. So, all things considered, my grandma's condition near cruise time will dictate whether or not we will travel. (I'm so glad we opted to purchase Trip Insurance.)

My grandma has lived a very full life on her own terms, so our prayer for her now is that she is at peace and without pain. That said, it's been a very difficult few months. Fortunately we're a fairly large, close-knit family and the majority of us live in the same town as my grandma. As a result, my grandma is rarely alone during the day - which is a good thing since she is much more at peace when one of us is with her.

As for my mom and I, our lives have developed a new routine that revolves around the "supper shift" at the hosptal. (My dad has taken over kitchen duty at home.) Some days are admittedly better than others. My grandma still enjoys being outside, so we try to take her for walks around the hospital grounds as much as possible. The further we go, the happier she seems to be. (I think she thinks we're breaking the rules for her.) The days when the weather fails to cooperate, howver, are the pits!

You guys are making me feel so OLD :)! I bought a Cabbage Patch Kid for my brother for Christmas, but I was too old for them. Ditto for Strawberry Shortcake.

I am sorry for your difficult situation. I hope that everything works out for the best.
