August 16 2009 4 night Wonder, Cruise-O-Maniac

Hi everyone,

We just rebooked onboard for the 8/16/09 cruise this past week. We are trying to check into DS11's mandatory football camp schedule for when he starts junior high next August to make sure we can keep this date. We had some Dis friends also rebook for this date and some that might book it from our 8/24/08 cruise.

I'm Danielle (35) and will be cruising with my husband Derek (35), son Keegan (then 12) and Brennan (then 8). It will be our 8th Disney cruise.

Hi Danielle - How was your cruise? Did the weather influence your trip? I can't believe this cruise is a year away and I am getting so excited for it. My second child, Peter, will be 8 at cruise time as well.

OK - I have to get back to planning my Oct solo trip to WDW with the kids. We are doing 2 nights at POP, then 3 at WL and attending the MNSSHP. Unfortunately, dh can't take the time off work to go with us.

Have a great week everyone!

Mary

Our cruise was GREAT, thanks,

We've been 3 or 4 times in August and I'd have to say this year was the wettest, but it was totally bearable and still lots of fun. It didn't damper our touring plans. We just put on ponchos and did our thing. It was cooler than the other August trips, so that was nice.

We've stayed at both Pop and the WL and enjoyed them both a lot. I've done a couple of last minute trips without DH over the past 18 months. I went with DS7 for Star Wars weekends in 2007 and 2008 and over "spring break" for a few days this past April. DH is a police officer and can't always get off when we want him to at the last minute. I booked a trip this past June just 10 days before we went so it was just ds7 and I. DS 11 didn't want to miss baseball so he stayed home with dh and my parents (they live a block away). We went for 5 days over a "Spring Break" in April. The boy's school district decided to give them a Friday and Monday off for the 1st time this year in April, calling it Spring Break and we took an extra day off (They had 2 days off at Easter). My DH ended up coming and surprising us the last 2 days we were there. We went on TOT at DHS and he was standing in the gift shop when we got off. He'd called right before we got on "missing us and asking what we were up to" so he knew where we were.

If you haven't been to MNSSHP, you will love it. I keep checking ding rates to see if we could throw in a quick trip over Columbus Day weekend. We did that last year---for $34 each way on Southwest. I have a strong feeling it's not going to happen this year though! The lowest I've seen is $72. We had a really great time at MNSSHP. We have APs and belong to DVC so it was just airfare, MNSSHP tickets and meals to worry about after getting into the Beach Club. Are you all dressing up? The boys wore real light uniforms/costumes and ended up taking them off they were so hot. I particularly loved the parade , especially the headless horseman and the grave diggers doing their little dance with sparking shovels.

Danielle - if your son is a Star Wars fan, he and my boys will get along great. After reading that your dh is an officer I just want to say Bless You to both of you! It takes amazing people to be in that line of work. Fourteen years ago, my younger brother's best friend was shot and killed in the line of duty so I totally realize the risk that those officers take every day. Thank you!!

I'm torn on whether to dress up for MNSSHP. I keep thinking it would be fun, but a pain to haul the costumes and what if they want to take them off because they get hot/the costumes are in the way/etc. If you had it to do again, would you dress up or not? BTW - the kids do not know about this trip. I plan to pick them up from school on Tuesday and tell them to pack because we are leaving the next day for Disney!! They will be missing 2 days of school but it is over our teacher's break. I love Florida in October.

Hi there, I'm Mandy. I'm from the UK and I'm a Moderator over on the UK Community Boards. We booked this Cruise when we were on the Disney Wonder a few weeks ago, when I sailed with Danielle (hey Danielle). I will be sailing with my hubby Paul and 2 DD's (Kerry who will be 18 and Becky who will be 16)

We booked this with the idea of changing our dates, but we have now sorted out our flights, so we'll definitely be sailing with you

I look forward to getting to know you :)

Well hello there Mandy. Welcome aboard! Cool, you have a DD close to my youngest. She will be 15. Your poor 18 yo gets stuck like my DS, who will be 19 at that time. With so many things to do on the ship and off, I am sure she won't be too board. :) I will add you to our growing list of shipmates.

Rick, that triple wide veranda sounds like the perfect spot for a meet and greet!! ;)
Speaking of great verandas, we booked our "land portion" of our trip last week! We are staying in a 2 bedroom villa at the Boardwalk with a Boardwalk view!:yay: We are coming in on the 9th!! Can not wait! Hope all is well with everyone!!

Oh, how exciting!! Maybe my son(almost 19 at time of sailing) will be a bit more thrilled with cruising when I share that he will have some company his age!! :goodvibes
Michelle

Mandy, that Bahama Mama looks so good!! May have to join you for one~!!
Danielle, I must have missed your posts!! So glad you will be joining us!! YEAH! :cool1:
Our very first cruise was in August of 2004. The weather was incredible in every way. However, the day we arrived back at port, hurricane Frances rolled on in !! Now that was crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August can be iffy for sure, but the rates are so good and affordable!! I am totally throwing caution to the wind and going for it!!!! I am actually more worried about the fire season here and not being able to get away (husband is a firefighter) than the hurricanes there though. Anyway, no worries now!! I can not wait to get onboard and sail away!!!!!!!!!

Michelle

............And we are on page 3 already!!!!!! AWESOME!!! Can not wait to get to know all of you better!!

We are booked for this cruise, me, DH, DS (5) and DD (12). It's a friends and family reunion of sorts -- there are 6 other cabins of folks joining us. Its our third Disney Cruise and a first for most of the rest. Can't wait! :woohoo:

Hello everyone, and welcome aboard to all the new shipmates. I have not been on the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately my dad passed away two weeks ago, and my head has just not been in the right place. He was my absolute best friend, and I feel so totally lost without him. But I can just hear him saying to get moving with life. Mom is doing better than I thought, and in fact may be joining us on our cruise. We were all supposed to go this past August, but dad took a turn for the worst, and had to cancel theirs, and fortunately DCL allowed me to rebook mine to this one.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say hello, and I will update our shipmate count and add you all to our list of "Cruise O Maniacs" :cool1:

:grouphug: I'm so sorry to hear your sad news Rick, I'm thinking of you and your family

Take care

I am so very sorry for your loss!! I had a feeling that your absence here had something to do with your Dad! Again, I am so very sorry !! I know how hard this must be for you! I have lived it!! ! My mom died when I was twenty two, and we were best friends as well! I know the grief and I know the pain. I also know it does get better with time!! I still miss my Mom, no doubt , but I know the time I had with her was an incredible gift! I feel blessed to have had that incredilby close bond with my mom, the same kind I now have with my own children!! I honor my Mom today by being the best mommy, the best wife and the best person I can be. We are all here for you!! Take good care!

Hi everyone

We just booked for this cruise last week. We did our first cruise last August and apart from a major noise issue in our original cat 6 stateroom that meant moving to a cat 5, we had a great time.

I'm Jakki (46) from Ireland and will be cruising with DH Steve (52) DS Aodhan (who will be 12) and DD Niamh (who will be 11) we've got early dinner seating and will be in adjoining cat 9's
