August 15-24 trippers UNITE!

I got the 10% off rack rate on the AoA suites, plus I found a AAA coupon online that gave me another $200 off for this trip. Not FD, but better than nothing. My AAA agent said that if FD opens up for this week, or if a better room rate comes out, she can switch me to the better one. The $200 coupon I keep regardless, so I'm hoping that Disney opens up more discounts for our week.

What kind of $200 coupon did you find? I can't find any!

We also are going to be added to the no discount vacation:(. It makes a great vacation kinda sad but we will get over it.

Our dates are Aug 16-24. I also can't change those dates because I am a teacher! :lmao:
I was hoping for FD, but at this rate, I am willing to take any type of discount.

We're a stubborn lot aren't we, holding out for that week and not caving to change dates! :grouphug:

I found this historical data: (stay date, savings, date released)

8/14/11-10/1/11 package deal ("kids stay and play free") for Disney's Visa cardholders 12/30/10, exp 2/13/11

8/14/11-10/1/11 20%-40% off room-only discount for general public 1/3/11, exp 3/27/11
8/14/11-10/1/11 room-only discounts for general public 5/29/11, exp 8/13/11
8/14/11-10/1/11 flat rate room-only discounts (about 21%-40%) for Annual Passholders 6/30/11, exp 10/1/11
8/14/11-10/1/11 flat rate room-only discounts (about 21%-40%) for Florida residents 7/14/11, exp 10/1/11

I was going to post the same thing, because I am sure that there was not a week without a discount last year. I go in August almost every year, and I know we had a great discount last year.

This year, we are going August 8th to 23rd. I am a teacher, too. I could have chosen late June or anytime in July for my vacation. When I purchased plane tickets, I picked this time period, because traditionally, it is when you receive the BEST discounts.

Now, I am locked to these dates, because my airfare is nonrefundable. I do have an AP voucher this year, so I am hoping for a good AP discount or one for the general public. I haven't given up yet!

These were the discounts from last year. As you can see, some were released in January!! I was not overwhelmed by the cost of the hotel, but the cost of the tickets is hard to get over. Since there is no discount on the tickets, I am hoping for a great rate on the resort to balance it out!
What's missing is the resorts the discounts included! We are booked at CSR currently.

We already had our flights booked also but in doing some research and comparing we rented dvc points and have 10 days at akl booked. It a few hundred over what the pop reservation would have been.

Sorry Disney lost our $$ this time but someone that couldn't use their dvc points this year has some Cash, but best of all we get to go back to AKL!!!:woohoo::yay::cool1:

Last year I booked FD for Aug 19-29th 2011 in aug 2010.... So this year when I got a great deal on airfare I booked for aug 20th-29th... I am currently paying rackrate and would so love a deal :)

I know it doesn't help everyone still waiting, but I do know that Disney sent out pins for August through snail mail at least...in early February. Hopefully a public discount comes out soon!

Yes, I understood that these were the discounts from last year. I was going to post the same thing from Mary's website, but you beat me to it :goodvibes

My post was more to reiterate that last year there was no gap for the last two weeks of August. In fact, we have been going every summer since 2009, and I do not think there has ever been a gap for the last two weeks of August before now. It has always been a heavily discounted time period.

I, too, am hoping for a great rate on the resort, since as you said, there is not a discount on tickets (and we already invested in annual pass vouchers anyway).

If memory serves me correctly, we booked the 20-40% off before March 27th last year. I know that I was very relaxed about having a good rate throughout the spring and summer (unlike now--I am really worried this year).

I believe that discount last year covered all of the resorts. We stayed at POP and Kidani and had EXCELLENT rates at both. Seems like it was 20% off value resorts, 25 or 30% off mods, and 30 or 40% off deluxes. Whatever it was, it was a good discount!

Is the $200 off coupon listed somewhere? I am a AAA member but I didn't see anything about that and it would be great if I could use that on AOA for our trip. Thank you!

I hope so! I called and the cast member I talked to said to keep an eye out in June!

I really don't understand the reasoning behind the exclusion of this specific time frame in August. :confused3 Especially since Aug 15-24 is during value season and Disney is starting value season earlier in August (for the value resorts) too. We went to WDW the third week of August last year and free dining, kids stay/play free, AND a room only discount were all offered for that week. A lot of midwestern and southern schools start back by mid August; and the crowd levels the week we were there last year were reasonable IMO (5's and 6's from what I remember) even with all the discounts that were offered. The only thing that I can think of is that there must be some kind of event going on this year that would fill the Disney resort rooms for this particular time frame in August; but I don't know if that is the case or not. We probably won't make it down to WDW this year; but I certainly feel for you guys. If Disney doesn't offer something, I would also suggest a AAA discount (better than nothing) or even looking into Undercover Tourist or perhaps participating in the Y.E.S. program (if you have a school age child) for discounted park tickets. Good luck and pixie dust everyone pixiedust:

Not a discount by any means, but just noticed that a bunch of mealtimes are now available at Ohana for this excluded time frame! Especially 8/19-8/24. they are on the later side, but Ohana nonetheless!:thumbsup2

Could you tell me the cost comparison? I looked at renting a studio and 1 bedroom villa and even at AKV Value, the studio is about the same price and the one bedroom is almost twice the cost!

Also, the floor plan of the studio looks about the same as a hotel room. We are a family of only three, so I'm trying to see where it would make sense. There are not enough beds (my DD15 will complain if she has to sleep on a fold out!) and there are no additional ammenities....Am I missing something?

Perhaps the difference is that we are not a big family. I have never even seen a villa, so please tell me if I am mistaken!

I booked the Boardwalk back in Jan. I had a 30% pin that was attached to my account. I booked for 8/20-8/31. But, we will adjust the dates to only go 7 nights. I always book extra nights to make sure I can get the best airfare and I am not sure when I will have to leave and return.

We're in the same boat! I wanted to stay at a moderate and try free dining but right now I'm looking at Pop and lots of counter service.

If I book at Pop, how close to travel time could I change my reservation withou penalty?

Still waiting to call Disneys bluff, I am sure there will be a discount.

However, the big question for my family is will the discount be good enough?

For me, unless I get a free dining pin I will be booking off site. I have a family of 5 and the free dining promo for us is the ONLY way we stay on site because it is the only way we can afford to do on site. The cost of feeding my family on site for 10 days is just too much for our budget.

So we shall see...I have to say I have been to Disney 3 times always FD. The lack of codes have dampened my feel for another Disney trip, I am just not as excited as I usually am.
If I had not booked the non refundable flight, I would have cancelled.

I find myself going to the dark side and skimming all inclusive deals for my family for non-disney trips.
