I had seen that list posted somewhere else on the DIS but hadn't seen The Help. That is cool although not sure I'll be able to fit in a movie....DS is psyched about Pirates!

Hi Lisa - glad you're still going...hope you've not had something bad happen to keep you away for so long (it HAS been awhile)!
Soooo, are you still planning to try to hit our DIS meet so we can say hello?? Most of us are still around. Jeff leaves today from Pittsburgh to go to Greece to visit his DW's family and for some R & R before his family heads to Barcelona. Mikki had to make a last minute trip to Bermuda this week for a memorial service but she'll be back this weekend for a day or so before she heads to BCN. We leave on Sunday for Paris... We've had several new peeps join while you've been MIA. I am having a hard time keeping track now of everyone else's plans. Criscoloo (Chris) is also leaving this weekend for Paris.


Meanwhile....I just went online & put our mail and newspaper on hold this morning for the duration of the trip. Got new 8 GB memory cards for all the cameras so have been formatting them and charging up the Kindles... It's crazy all the stuff there is to do. The bank called yesterday afternoon to say my new batch of Euros is in so I need to run over there. Gotta fill a couple RX's... So much misc. stuff. Also need to write out some bills to mail before we go... OY!!!

I don't know if they will have them as we exit the ship or not like they used to at CC but we always swing thru by the pool & grab some to bring on excursions. NOTE tho that even their pool towels are not really beach towel size. In fact, they're not even BATH towel size. Sort of 1/2 size - I always use 2 at a time on a chair but for an excursion will likely only take 1 each just because of the bulk & weight. (Always a good excuse to BUY a new DCL towel too.)

Things that have gone right so far for this trip (comparing to last year's run through the airport in Philly to get our connection).

1. I didn't park in Row 13. not even close.
2. Our flight to Philly left on time.
3. A nice young man who wanted to sit with a nice young lady asked if he could trade seats with me. his seat was in first class.
4. Plane arrived in Philly on time.
5. With six hours between flights I decided to pull the trigger and buy the 90 day membership for the USAirways Club. So far a VERY good investment. Quiet, comfortable, snacks, drinks, places to plug stuff in.

Hope everyone is having a good day. So far so good here! (maybe another nice young man will offer me his envoy seat on the flight to Athens!)

Thanks for making the Mickey maps for us LeeAnn! I finally got around to printing one out for our family. DH was able to add our names from his computer at work. (He works in computers like many of you.) It's laminated and I just put the magnets on it. I can't wait to get on the ship and put it on our door!

Oh you're wlecome...I'm glad your DH was able to edit it for you!! I started a project for our door that I never finished. Not looking like it's going to get done either at this point. But we'll see.

Today I did a little house cleaning before the MIL stops by tomorrow to pick up DS. The house was a MESS. Between planning on this trip & the summer swim pictures DVD I'd really neglectd a lot of stuff. I had DS run the vacuum in the family room in the basement for me. It's a BIG room so it takes awhile. I think he had something set wrong tho on the vacuum 'cuz the entire time he was working it smelled like burning rubber (I thought a belt was breaking or something). I have to wonder if it really cleaned or if it just made marks in the carpet!? After he finished I used it on the first floor & it seemed fine so I dunno.

Charged our Kindles today & downloaded a couple of books & some free games this evening for mine so I guess I am ready to read on the plane if I can't sleep.

Wonder if Jeff is in Athens yet? I was just thinking about Mikki in Bermuda...I hope this tropical storm, Emily doesn't mess her up there.

Tomorrow back to packing.

So far so good on the chickenpox front, neither DD (5) or myself have come down with it so I am hoping it's missed us. I've stopped planning excursions in case we dont make it and figure if we're lucky enough to make it on board we'll just wing it!

As far as packing goes - I'm leaving that until last minute too!

looked at one which had a couple of trains only which was strange . we're thinking of
of taking the ferry to Monterosso with a stop and the train back or vise versa
. too scared to fit in Pisa due to the weird train schedule

I have been looking at both the Trenitalia and the RailEurope train websites. I like the RailEurope site best but it doesn't show the local trains. I checked them last week & printed out some schedules to compare them - you can't see the local trains on the RailEurope site tho - you can only see those on the Trenitalia site - those are the ones you need between the towns. The faster trains only stop in La Spezia & Monterosso I think. I figured I would try to look again maybe on Saturday to see if there'd been any changes posted. The day we're there is a holiday so the schedules may be inclined to change. The ferry does take a long time to get to Monterosso & it may or may not be runing so I was thinking of taking the train to GET THERE & then try the ferry on the way back between Monterosso & Vernazza maybe just for the view from the sea. Supposed to be spectacular.

Hi everyone. We did make it. It was an exhausting trip for sure. We left our home in Pittsburgh around 6:50 a.m. Wednesday morning and made it to Athens at 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning Pittsburgh time. I didn't really sleep on the plane - just couldn't get comfortable this time but the kids slept some and Mina did as well.

Our first stop was Mina's cousin's Krissa's home for the day to take a nap (which me and the kids did), have lunch and get ready for the ferry ride to Andros. Ferry ride was fun and beautiful and we arrived at our hotel around 8:30 p.m. Greece time (1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at home). Dropped bags and like good Greeks, went out into Andros Town (Chora) for drinks and light dinner/appetizers.

It's absolutely gorgeous here. Will try to get some photos up soon. Slept in until after 9 today (kids are still sleeping as we approach noon) but we all really needed it. Off to the beach later!

Oh and for our loooooong six hour layover in Philly I went ahead and bought the us airways club 90 day membership. Well worth it for the peace and quiet and comfort and snacks. And we can use it on the way home too.
