August 12, 2006-DIS DREAMS DO COME TRUE-Magical Western Cruise

Donna,

We're flying from Dulles, but Econopark Express is a good way to go. I prefer them or any of the private lots to BWI run lots. BWI busses can be so slow while the private lots typically have you on a bus within 30 seconds of parking your car.

Any of us who are flying tonight or tomorrow should probably plan extra time for security at the airports based on this morning's news. It also looks like security is banning any liquids from being carried on board.

"Effective immediately by order of the TSA, passengers may not bring liquids or gels of any size at the security checkpoint or in the aircraft cabin - including beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, toothpaste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency. Such items may be transported in checked baggage. Passengers may have baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling. Passengers may also have prescription medication labeled with a name which matches the name on the passenger's ticket, insulin, or other essential non-prescription medications. Beverages purchased beyond the security checkpoints must be consumed before boarding the aircraf"

Good Morning

While there aren't many of us left here on the home front...WE ONLY HAVE TWO DAYS TO GO. Tomorrow I'll be on the road to the Port.

Hope everyone has a great day and completes all the last minute errands.

Like disposable underwater cameras.

They just had this on the news...total havoc here at the local airport, many angry :furious: passengers.

I haven't heard anything about airport security yet, guess I'll have to turn on the news. I ironed last night, although it will just be wrinkled by the time we get there :sad2: . We leave early tomorrow morning.

Tia/Donna, I know how you feel about flying. I'm not really a "white knuckle" flyer, but I don't like the movement and tend to feel a little sick. We have a non-stop for 5.5 hours

Have a great day everyone. I'll see you all the day after tomorrow :woohoo:

Pam

Laura and Marco had some friends that were flying in from UK yesterday. I have called and left a message for Laura to call to make sure they arrived safely.

I would think now are the safest days to fly.

Just when you think you are all packed! Got to rework the carryon stuff!! What was I just saying about white knuckle?? Now I kinda wish we were driving, the downside to that is that then you are wiped out when you get there. I am sure this will result in slower boarding on Sat. (not that I'm complaining, LOL) Have a safe drive Beckie
:drive:

Donna, Pam, Bob

Just leave for the airport 2 hours earlier than you were planning, have a SAFE TRIP. I need to run out and purchase a few items then just relax today.

Beckie

About our flight being canceled, .about us missing the flight etc. Since are coming in EARLY Saturday morning, we are freaked now that all this chaos has changed everything about flying again. Not afraid of flying but of the delays, etc. Calling airline today to see if there is a chance of getting on a flight late tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow night so we can get to the Airport Hyatt and just SLEEP b4 heading to port. They have relaxed the change fees but not sure if that will apply too us trying to fly one day earlier.

Beckie,

Luckily events in the UK were caught before anything serious happened. Yes, I've already informed the family that we'll be leaving very early tomorrow a.m. - Dulles security can be slow on a good day. I can't imagine what tomorrow will be like but am planning on 2- 2.5 hours to get thru security.

I think (hope) things will be better tomorrow since hopefully most people won't be surprised by the new restrictions.

JEFF

OH...I forgot that you were flying Saturday...Hope you are able to get a flight tomorrow if not I think I would jump in the car and drive. :drive:

Have a safe trip

This morning when I first posted I wasn't awear of the reasons for the new restrictions. Now after reading and hearing all about the threat I am surprised they are just now implementing the new security measures, especially if I had a flight say yesterday. :confused3

But no early flight either. Here's hoping there are no problems Saturday morning. If I'm not at the DIS Meet on Saturday, look for me racing to catch up to the ship in Key West! :scared:

You'll be fine, don't panic. Are your flights booked through DCL?

I'm incredibly plane phobic, so this situation is not helping. Tim's away in Long Island, so I don't expect to see him until late tonight. He's flying, so I hope he doesn't get held up too badly, I told him he had to ditch all his toiletries.

Greetings fellow cruise enthusiasts,
I've been reading through the thread and it looks like the DIS MEET (or whatever other catchy slogan ends up winning by popular vote) to be held first at the Promenade Lounge then later on DECK 10. Just wondering if it's port or starboard...fore or aft...or if new meeting places have been set. Am looking forward to meeting some of the folks who have taken time to post such helpful info on the site. (I'm more of a reader than a poster if you hadn't guessed)
Excited about my first Disney cruise! :Pinkbounc

Our flights are not booked with DCL. I'm less panicked now that I have heard things have calmed down at the Pittsburgh Airport. Lots of people reporting this afternoon's "rush hour" was pretty much business as usual as opposed to the chaos of this morning.. we NEED this cruise. As my wife said this morning, it'll be good to be floating in the middle of the ocean for a week... away from the "real world."

Jeff

I agree with your DW...We all just need to float in the middle of the ocean for a week...away from the "Real World."

I'm sure you will be at the DIS-Meet and everthing will be fine with your flight. Just give some extra time to get through security, but you are the expert at getting thur the airport.

Boy do I know what you mean with each item I ironed I thought Please stay is way knowing that everything will slide to the botten of the suitcase and look like I never tried to look neat and wrinkle free.
Beckie

Major delays out of BWI. Tim is sat in Long Island, his 6:10pm flight due to take off over an hour late, they had to wait for the BWI flight. I guess you want to make sure you get to the airport in plenty of time, just in case.

I'm horrifed by it all. I know there have been arrests in the town my Dad was from (High Wycombe, Bucks) The fact that someone could be so disenfranchised by their lot in life. It's just so sad. I think that is one of the big issues facing Britain at present is the attitude, it was so refreshing to come to America and find people so much more positive about what they can achieve. I think we are a nation of glass half empty, the British that is, and I admit to being very much a product of that too.

Okay off my soapbox. I have a vacation to think about, deep breath, relax...I am so taking the car.....breath in and out...at least I've packed all the suitcases....Thinking a nice Kool Breeze maybe, or ten!!!!!

Hope to see you all real soon.

We've got almost everything in the car for the early drive to the airport.

Safe travels all. I'm so looking forward to meeting everyone Saturday and leaving all the worries of daily life behind for a week.

Time to shut down the computer and call it a day.

- Bob

Time to go! The car is packed, I don't think I can fit 1 more thing in my suitcases. If I can just get this flight behind me I will be ready to relax! Beckie, I will call you when we get to the hotel. Looking forward to meeting everyone! Have a safe trip!!
